This was a civil war. It was greatly romanticized. I am sure more epic battles were fought during Han Wudi against the Huns. Those wars stretched across Eurasia. But no one ever wrote a novel about it in the 1300s. The man took history that was recorded in the 200s and decided to retell it during the 1300s.
Did you know why this china history is famous . Because the story is 40000 vs 10000 and the ten thousand win ! This show how important stratergy is..............
Actually DW is more of a love or hate game. Once in awhile a bit inbetween. The stories tend to be good, music is nice, and the artwork is very pretty. Though the simple hack n' slash can get repetitive(sp). I actually would have no interest in the Three Kingdoms if I didn't try this series out. But why is it a piece of crap? Is it because the fighting is too simple and you constantly press simple or single button combos? Is the music bad and lackluster? etc.
overall its a good ide pulled off wrong, everything from AI to the char u play need to me remade, but i dont remmeber if i played the latest one though but the once i played was shit anyway :P
was this based on an actual battle? its just i typed it on google and it says there was a battle of red cliff in 208 ad. i also remember playing something like the bit at night when they are shooting the catapults on a game called dynasty warriors 6. i think it was called the battle of chibi. anyway...
another modern movie. It will use speciel effects and wires leaving the fight scenes as something to be desired. Corey yuen is the stunt cordinator so it will be pretty but lacking reality and depth. I'm not going to watch it but those who like these kind of movies should. I'll stick to my 1980 hong kong action films, go project A.
I don't think you understood my meaning. I meant that they would use wires inorder to allow them to moves that they could't regularly do. I don't mean that it is a crouching tiger, hidden dragon spin off but rather that it won't have the ingenuity and still that is embedded in great classics like project A. That is the kind of action that is made with blood, sweat, tears, and many hours of perfecting. This movie will focus more on the acting and story and leave the action sub par.
What? You haven't even seen it yet? It's been out for a month already. The acting was cheesy and story wasn't based from Chronicles. (They made Xiao Qiao into a Helen of Troy). In otherwords, they sucked. The Gu Qin part sucked even bull. Action was excellent, it was the reason I liked it. How about you watch a movie first before "reviewing" it so you don't sound like a dumbass.
So a movie about the battle of Chi Bi. I can see quite a few of the main Three Kingdoms characters. Tsao Tsao, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu, Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, Sun Ce. This really should be an awesome film about one of my favourite naval battles ever.
Whoopty woo, peeps. It's a movie. A writer(s) modern day interpretation of the battle. Just wait for the damn movie to come out and critize afterwards...Imma criti-size on them hot azn actresses hehe. Yah. Lick-a-lick dat lollipop haha
Hey thats real chinese history not a game, do you even have knowledge of it at all?? It is real epic story of a battle that happened 1800 years ago! Greater feat than Alexander the Great, Hannibal, or even what Julius Caesar have done, while they all fought opponents with mediocre tactical understanding and barbarians, china had to content with numerically superior, thoroughly trained army with commanders not only consumate in martial but strategic and tactical understanding!
@metamorphorsis I disagree with your view upon Hannibal and Alexander the Great, because the ones fighting barbarians most of their time were the Romans. Hannibal, in the Battle of Cannae, fought against a roman army almost twice as big as his own army and defeated the Romans while only losing less than one fifth of his army! Alexander the Great fought against one of the most powerful empires at that time, the Persian Empire, and they were organized.
filming cavalry is expensive. even in the lotr movies, they had perhaps one or two hundred horses max and had to use CGI to duplicate them to seem like 10,000 cavalry men
Sorry.... this isn't lord of the ring.... china is known for authenticity of using mass formations in filming... just look at the Romance of the three kingdom series in the 1990s... not a movie but series alone. And it is not 10,000 cavalry men in LOTR, it is between 2000-3000 men on part 2, must less than 10,000 even on part 3... You are now watching a larger than like battles, unlike LOTR. Where numbers not only count or fool headed charge like LOTR movies. Strategy is the way of the war.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a fictional account of Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms. ROTK was written in the 15th century, 1300 years after the event happened.
And no, they are not more authentic than anyone else...especially since so many are fantasy wuxia genres. If you watch Hero w/ Jet Li, that movie has blatantly incorrect battle formations.
i am not really referring to ROTR, sorry for referrence mistakes should be Chronicles of the three kingdom.... And i dun mean battle formations... i mean using formations of "ACTORS" so read properly i did not get it all wrong!
Speech others tongues for international communication, learn the good from others, but turning back on one's culture is unforgivable, youngster would think this is the free world, but the world now is made by the sweat and blood of our ancestors just to give us our identity! what youngsters said is fashion, it is vanity to me it is abandonment of ones culture, asiatic culture is not ugly, if you hear them properly, they are much beautiful than we thought, we can be proud of being who we are!
They also fight with ethics not foolish honour, if your talk about knighthood in europe, then China had already done outstandingly well and better than other theater of army, just think Guan Yu, Zhao Yun, Ma Chao, Sun Ce and they have fought battle far difficult than what Alexander, Hannibal or even Julius Caesar have handled. If youngsters think nowdays western culture are appealing, then they have lost their spine and backbones, our ancestors have fought hard but to be ruined by youngsters.
To my opinion, i don't think any other theater of generals are able to handle this battle, if you say Alexander the Great, he only need to handle 100,000 untrained levies of the un-united Persians army, Hannibal, won because Romans were block heads of strategic thinking, while Julius Caesar, many experts say his only a morale booster, the romans won because of discipline and training. But for China is a different storey. They have been fighten war at a much higher level than the other theater.
the Chinese Han army and Roman army crossed path once along the silk road. The Chinese defeated the Romans due to better weapon technology. their crossbow projectiles can penetrate Roman armour.
the han army never fought the romans. there are stories regarding captured romans being settled in eastern parthian cities, and later coming into conflict with the han, but those romans (if they existed) were captured POWS working for parthians and later the nomadic king.
nope, the chinese fought ex roman soldiers, not the roman army.
they were believed to be soldiers who escaped parthian POW camps who became mercenaries for various tribes along the border of the han empire
the only known contact comes from a han woodcarving of a battle against these barbarians with a small group of them arranging their shields in a testudo
No. The Chiense also encounter Roman soldiers along the silk road. They got beated as the crossbow's arrow can pierce through roman armour. Also Chinese weapon is made of steel, not any bronze nor iron. The roman POW in turkestan was another battle.
YES excalty what i said! but the chinese people were piss off and on strike or something that john woo just had to go along with the people because a japanese guy playing a historical figure in china was not allowed for the chinese fan bummer...
finally, ive been waiting like 3 years for this to come out. cool that lu bu and guan yu look similar to dynasty warriors. good battle to pick its like cao caos gigantic force vs. the genius of zhuge and zhou yu. plus i hope they have the scene where guan yu lets cao cao escape, so epic, he would have changed the world.
hahaha dude likewise!!!! i've been waiting for 3 years also, I heard the john woo verison was going to be more down to earth, but the Andy Lau was going to be like supposly flying around or not so great. rumor and the fact is i did saw the new Three kingdom movie from Andy Lau film wasn't all that great. John Woo will not fail us after 3 or 5 years of wait!
I've read these books about 7 times now and I'm STIIL not sick of them! I doubt i ever will be, because it's so epic! They made me believe that honor did exist, but nowadays, no one cares for that anymore...I hate this century! Anyways, Three Kingdoms made me respect China out of every other country out there!
One of the greatest period in Chinese history, our ancient ancestor have fought bigger and more complex battles than any other in history, like battle of Muye, Red Cliff and many more. We are Hans, we cannot look down on ourselves just because of recent setbacks, watch the movie and you will feel the greatness of China that we youngster nowadays detest to be. We can be proud to be CHINESE today because of what our ancestors did! What we youngsters are doing now is throwing them away for vanity!
I'm not chinese either and i agree. Much respect. One of the main reasons that when it comes to art and desire, i look up to Chinese because you all have sooo much to bring to the table. Here in America, most people know nothing but stupidity...
You are so entirely right. I remember back in grade school, there were so many Chinese-American students and so many do not speak and cannot read a single Chinese word (not fluently at least) and during cultural projects they can't even answer simple questions about the Chinese culture without doing research and reading out of a book or article. Truly ashame.
Their parents had to expect this if they're going to have children in America and go to an American school. What's a shame is not their ignorance of Chinese culture but their reluctance to learn. But it's not their fault if they were never taught anything about it other than the crappy US curriculum on Chinese history.
i still believe the original TV series San Go Yen Yi has all the best selection of actors that have the look and personality to fit their respective roles, which I don't see happening here. However the original series do not have as good the action sequence as shown here in this movie. So it's a fine balance between these two comparisons (only if they had the action sequence here and the characters from the original...)
well this isn't using the historical novel san guo yan yi as a blueprint, rather they are using Chronicles of Three Kingdoms for a more "Realistic and non-dramatized" story. So Cao Cao wont be as villified per se.
