  • 3:13... analog magic!

  • I think the dislikes are only because you edited random, very annoying sound effects that didn't fit in and is pointless, like the "hahaha".

  • mini moog

  • 57 Leute spielen casio keyboards.

  • I LIKE THE WAY YOU MOOOOOOG !

  • i like saying the word anal-og............it excites me

  • I think the video effect are great and in the spirt synths and their cool users ;D

  • How many effects are there in the music industry?

  • How do you make that 'ping pong' sound its cool

  • correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that this is a great substitute for someone unable to shell out for a Mini. I just got a Mini a week ago and I hear a lot of the same sounds in this synth. At least I think I do.

  • thats great

  • IS THAT SEQUENCED and if o by what?

  • i play synth...

  • I hear Zombie nation!

  • awwwwwwwww i want one!

  • @TheSlippySock Aaahhh I SOLD ONE! :-(

  • Can anyone please direct me to a webpage or a book or a search term to help me find out how to use one of these things?

  • @ross817 you should read about how analog subtractive synthesis works in general

  • @mfcallaha I will, thanks!

  • Zombie nation at beginning :D

  • Little wonder digital took over.

  • hall of notes

kiss on my list is what the beginning sounds like exactly

  • raver kids bone more whorES.....

  • ok deaf nigga......

  • need one. NOW

  • I actually just bought one of these at a garage sale 2 days ago for $5 !!

It's missing one of the white slide caps and one of the keys is chipped but everything works perfectly! !What a great sound. I'm having so much fun experimenting with it!

  • @ortugg3

    you lucky B**tard :)

  • @ortugg3 i dont believe you but who cares what i think?

  • i'm jealous, that IS AMAZING

  • that firework scared the hell out of me o_o

  • Guten Tag von America! Geiler beim 1:46-5:00

I totally dig the electro ping pink tink metallic sounds

  • @orangemonkeyee

    :)) thank you

    a bit zombi nation ;D

  • i guys what is a moog? a friend of mine talked about it. and says that is pretty used by professional producers. thanks in advance

  • @nelsonthekinger Kraftwerk plays on moogs, and this is a moog.

  • i just got one of these and all the sounds i make with it are shit..... help

  • Bei dem Feuerwerksknall bin ich voll erschrocken!!! Schönes Video!

  • @susarom

meine frühe Experimentierphase mit dem Videoprogramm. Was hab ich nur getan........? ;D

der Anfang ist Zombie Nation entliehen. hahaha

  • looks like a lot of work x.x

  • Awesome. I had one a few years back. I got a lot of amazing sounds, but you definitely have a better understanding of this than I did! I'm wondering how you were able to keep the octave notes continuously going. I didn't think that was possible. Anyhow, awesome.

  • is it MIDI

  • @leadfarmer13 No xD

  • Niesamowita jest ta pulsacja !!!

  • @Fernandos8036ify To dlatego TRANCE jest transem !!!

  • lol i have that tuner in the back...

  • @LE3ESP me too lol

  • first time I ever heard one of these (outside of kraftwerk).

I am blown away- these things are incredible !

How much would one of these cost ???

I think I will make it my ambition to obtain one of these, somehow.

I have read these are expensive and hard to maintain, i study electronics and

I am very keen on analogue, so labour wouldnt be an issue.

Do these contain tubes or transistors, or hybrid?

I may build a small version for fun , as I probably cant afford the real thing.:(

  • @stewartdahamman VSE mentions that it's valued around $400 to $700, and I think it has mostly transistors with a few ICs.

  • I had WAY too much fun wathing this XD... Awsome sounds :D

  • Nice sounds! Thanks for sharing bro.

  • little after 5:25 is so bad ass:DD

  • Epic fireworks explosion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds like zombie nation :D

  • how it kept playing the notes without pressing them? midi?

  • @lagiator

    sequenced over the cv/gate ins

  • @retrosound72 explain more please.

  • Curious: can you replicate the synth patches and sounds from the beginning of Rush's 2112 Overture? That would be a really cool video to post!

  • Dude....I would of bought that track in 1980 ;0)

  • aren't some of those really expensive?

  • Very Nice :) You can do the same on FL i few second ;]

    Archer of Future (Cirrus)

  • @CirrusCX yes, but the FL sound is shit

  • 300k veiws>? GO RETRO GO!

  • 3::15 sounds like a scratch^^

  • THIS SHOWS EXACTLY WHY I WANT A SYNTHESIZER! SO MANY DIFFERENT SOUNDS! I'm Just Skint atm... xD

  • now i see why synth music was soo popular

  • Thank you for this demo. Beautiful!

  • Great vid, please check out my slowly growing channel of analogues and soft synth development.

    Arp Quadra's and moogs galore.peace.

  • Are you self taught? That moog is in great condition and sounds great

  • Do I hear LCD Soundsystem 'Tribulations' in the the beggining?! hehe

  • Thats some heavy dope right there marine

  • Anyone know what an original, multilingual (English/French/Italian/German) Moog Prodigy manual w/ schematics (Rev.1 (SN 1-4160) & Rev.2 (SN 4161+) and in VG conditions might be worth? Same for a SCI Prophet-10 manual in original SCI-spined vinyl binder? If only US$20 or so, I may want to hold onto them, but if they could be worth much more, they might be worth selling.

  • @xnonsuchx I have a Moog prodigy but no manual

  • @RoadDog56 you have a Moog but no manual.. how about this, i give you the manual and you give me your moog? =)

  • Great phat sounds, love the prodigy synth, just watched a short interview with Liam Howlette and he said he named the band "The Prodigy" after the Synth Moog,Fact

  • Tell me what exactly I need to get to make this stuff!

  • Brrrrrrrrrr sti suoni ,mi entrano nella mente ;)

  • The sound of a whole generation of music. Great demo.

  • Sound of a whole generation. Great demo.

  • Wer denkt gerade an Egotronic?

  • I like the 707 in the background

  • Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 :D

  • these video effects are unneccessary, but the sound is perfect

  • @krakerz1994

    I was young.....;)

  • Are you going to get a Prophet 08? If you haven't already. I'd love a demo of that.

  • @metabog

    I don`t like the Prophet 08 :(

    sorry

  • Good as valuable antique for colectors but useless as an gear in todays studios

  • doesent matter what u play on analog, sounds fat anyway nice

  • @gix500

    :)

  • siiiiiick

    thumb'd and sub'd

  • Where can i get myself one of these?

or can i get the same or better sounds outa something else?

  • @theyellowibanezman This is no longer made. To get this exact sound remember you need a sequencer and a drum machine. The Moog Little Phatty ($1300 new) is amazing and will get you there.

  • where can i learn how to play this? can i just learn on my own? how can i record the sounds i make? and whats the price of the basic sinthesizer? thanks

  • @putamadrenicolas Yes, you can learn on your own- you won't get arrested or go to hell when you die. Seriously, there are many great books on the subject and some helpful vids right here on YT. I would learn to read music as wellas take a basic piano course.

  • nice, i wish i could afford a true analogue synth to setup near my virus, the combination could'v been great, besides that i like the the way it sounds.

  • hi awesome clips, can you tell me which synthesizer was used in midnigh stars "operator" that produced its fat synth bass. i can see the music clip on you tube but cant tell which synth brand it is.

    please help

    regards

    paul

  • awesome sounds

  • What is that silver grey unit just behind the moog?

  • @chrisarnt

    TR-606 drum machine

  • Deixa de ser escrotooo e mostra a porrra ai, carai dos infernos.

  • i need analoggggg.... i know how to manipulate these from digital sims and this just seems soo much cooler.

  • Why dont whe hear anything with that 707 in the background?

  • 1:41 lol STURRZ

  • amazing sound at 6:31

  • kraftwerk sound

  • very interesting.thanks

  • thanks

    for sharing

  • Play something. Chop Stix? Anything.

  • whooa the when the beat kicks in I thought it was the song " STR With Tim Tycoon- I-Lite"

  • The fireworks at 0:12 scared the crap out of me!!

  • retrosound72, i absolutely loved your video, and this is the first video ive seen of the moog prodigy. i immediatly tried to locate one for sale, but i cant find a single one. do you think you can make a five second recording of each wave form (saw, triangle, rectangle at 90% (almost square), 75%, 50%, and 25%, and perfect square)? i would be so greatful, and would be willing to make you some homemade drums, synths, and effects. flenjember37@gmail.com if you can. thanks!

  • @Jairusisawesome my first was a roland sh-201 (digital). its bass sounds almost analog, and its an amazing synth for only $600 but its leads are lacking.

if at all possible i would go with either an access virus ti2 (digital) or dave smith instruments prophet '08 (analog)

  • dengg, that would suck having to remember the knob positions for each specific sound you use in each song if you play live.

  • @madgame1000 that's why they all have stickers on their synths on 70s-80's concert footage :)

  • @vunderground1 really?? i never noticed

  • @madgame1000 well, not always but if they had a few songs to do they often would (I would for sure)

  • This may sound like a stupid question but, can you record from this to a computer?

  • @stee1face yea, all you have to do is plug the audio output into an input on your computer, and record it in a program like ableton live (my first choice for recording)

  • Oh, fantastic!!! I love this!!!!!! Moog! Nothing like this machine!

  • sexy!

  • People complain that modern synths are not as good [regarding sound] as the old analog gear but if you look at the 'Gary Numan Telekon mini tour-Stage set up' video, Gary himself praises the Access Virus [about 2 mins. into the vid.] I don't have a Virus myself but one of the original 'kings of synth' gives his opinion regarding reliability and emulation and it's an interesting video.Depeche Mode also make use of the same synth.

  • i wanna real synthesizer... not those VSTi plug-ins(but they sound like original) :''(

  • audio porn? I think so!

  • hey retrosound, awesome vids as usual

i was wondering how you got the sound between 6:05 and 6:10

no need for exact settings, im a synth/particularly moog nerd as well!

    Any reply is appreciated

    Cheers

  • @mistermafia9

thanks. I have made this vid 2 two years ago and I dont no the settings but VCO1 is SAW and VCO 2 Pulse.

  • @mistermafia9 URHG i just typed out most of the settings and then accidentally hit refresh. In short the exact settings are infront of your eyes :D

  • Also, a Fairlight had nil feedback, which is essential for a synth.....

  • bad ass

  • Worst thing that happened to 1980s music was the Fairlight!

Had as much character as a bank manager!

  • Old analogue kit always sounds so much better than its over processed counter part...

So Muck DEPTH!! It's almost filthy, I guess dubstep has it roots in the sound this kit produces, Dub recreates similar waves.

  • operational amps are closer to mankind than a digital programme from a closed room of a non-musician software engineer.

Analogue Op-amp drift, you it makes sense.

  • @closertofiftythanyew you know it makes sense even, electronic drift, with temperature and attitude...

  • Do you buy all of your synths? If so, you must make a pretty penny.

  • Thanks a lot for the demo, Retrosound.

    Very instructive !

  • @nemomatou

    thx :)

  • Analogue synths follows the characteristics of a natural human voice, it also drifts. Who sings exactly like a digital synth? which even a grand piano doesn't - it varies with atmospheric humidity and temperature.

Ditch digital synths as a failed project!

  • Ohhhh ohhhh ohhhhh oh oh oh oh

  • they just don't make umm like this anymore, miss this sound

  • @elechronica LOL@ "Shitty Video Effects"

  • The Prodigy named themselves after this synth.

  • still makes a good music statement if you aks me!!!

  • ALL HAIL THE HYPNOTOAD!!!!!!!!!

  • that opening saw tooth riff sounded like Kernkraft 400 Zombie Nation lul. Nice demo.

  • Man! that scared me( Fireworks)

  • @ZipSnipe haahh that scared the shit out of me too

  • @ZipSnipe Same hahaha

  • hey im from romania and i have a cuestion.this is a synthetizer but how do you call the other thing that copyes other instruments and looks like the synthetizer?

in romanian we call it ''orga electronica'' but in english?

PS: ''orga electronica'' isn't an electronic organ!!!

  • sampler

  • @retrosound72 actually he's thinking of just a normal keyboard, nice vid btw

  • organ

  • electric organ

  • @Echofromsomewere1 Just a Keyboard?

  • @Echofromsomewere1 Or do you mean just a keyboard?

  • sampler or mellotron

  • forgive me! ;)

  • Crazy machine !

It's the origin of the band's name "The Prodigy" !!!

  • @AgentOrangeOfficial yeah lots of early electronic acts grabbed names form synths.

  • @AgentOrangeOfficial No is not ... Prodigy was named Prodigy because of Hip hop trends these days every Dj thought he's a genius and Liam started hes carrier as a Hip hop DJ mixing beats ect...

But it was one of his first synths - thats correct

  • @Eclipsepoland according to one of the biographies of the band the first demo-casette that Liam gave to Keith had the label "Prodigy" becouse of the synthesizer..

  • amazing sound, better than many new synths produced now.

  • I think you would call me an audio objectivist. I strongly question the way magazines like Stereophile review audio.

That being said, I have heard many synths over the years, and it does seem to be hard to exactly match the way a real analog synth sounds.

While in theory, you could emulate distortion in the oscillators and the way filters work, etc., for some reason, they don't always seem to match my recollection of some of the classic analog synths I have heard.

  • I remember when you could actually get the Prodigy for next to nothing. There was a Pawn shop I used to go to that had 3 of them piled on top of one another asking 100$ per.Still a great sounding synth.

  • Nice one mate.

  • ha ha that was some g electronica youd made a good dj i dont realy even like electronica and that was sick

  • subscribed

  • @mrhartuc Moog still creates synthesizers. The old ones are only so expensive because geeks are good at convincing themselves they sound better, when in reality moogs sound just like any other synth. "raw and dirty", please... it's a saw wave

  • get outta here

  • Should I go somewhere where people choose electronics based on price versus function, rather than some delusional feeling of superiority, that a certain brand name inherently "sounds better", as if they were picking a Stradivarius over a Yamaha? Ooh, listen to that oscillator, it's so FAT!!!

  • @DrMadrigal

ah, but each saw wave is subject to the tiny random nuances of analog circuitry in a true analog synth :-)

now thats not to say moog analogs are better than say korg analogs, but old analog definitely have a different sound from virtual analogs, which can be both good and bad

  • I'm really, really unconvinced those tiny nuances can be picked up by the human ear. Normally when people talk about old analog sounding "warm", they're really referring to distortion, which can be emulated digitally. I think the IDEA of analog is a cool one and enjoy using it myself, but I'd never spend thousands on an old Moog that lacks midi, has small defects, etc.

  • @DrMadrigal

meh, I really think there is a difference. For example, I can apply distortion, amp sims, reverb and other effects to simulate the sound coming from a crappy old amp, and then patch random changing freq per keypress LFOs on my R3 to sound, or tuning, or filter balance so that they change each time, but it still doesn't feel.... warm. IRDK.

Digital random is always pseudo, but analog random is the real thing... the sound is actually affected by temperature, usage...

  • pro-ones are the way to go :)

  • i'm kinda stupid but how do you sync it and not pressing any note and it sounds 3 notes?

  • sequenced by the Pro-One internal sequencer

  • @fahrigonzo sequencer.

  • wats the whole set up u have there?

  • thats awesome!!!!!!!!

  • I dont think Id remember how the outside of my house looks like if I had that Moog...SOOOO MUCH FUN!!!

  • Wow, that single OSC sounds so much like a 2 or 3 OSC sound it's crazy!! very raw and dirty, I love it!

  • i think under 400 dollars you won't get anything from moog... even used on ebay... I think the moog prodigy could cost around 1500-2000 dollars.

In germany I could only find one moog prodigy for sale.. its used and costs around 1550 euros what should be an equivalent to 1800 dollars

  • That'ss exactly what I'm looking for!! Does anyone know how much it costs??

  • kinda sounds like zombie nation lol
