correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that this is a great substitute for someone unable to shell out for a Mini. I just got a Mini a week ago and I hear a lot of the same sounds in this synth. At least I think I do.
I actually just bought one of these at a garage sale 2 days ago for $5 !!
It's missing one of the white slide caps and one of the keys is chipped but everything works perfectly! !What a great sound. I'm having so much fun experimenting with it!
Awesome. I had one a few years back. I got a lot of amazing sounds, but you definitely have a better understanding of this than I did! I'm wondering how you were able to keep the octave notes continuously going. I didn't think that was possible. Anyhow, awesome.
Anyone know what an original, multilingual (English/French/Italian/German) Moog Prodigy manual w/ schematics (Rev.1 (SN 1-4160) & Rev.2 (SN 4161+) and in VG conditions might be worth? Same for a SCI Prophet-10 manual in original SCI-spined vinyl binder? If only US$20 or so, I may want to hold onto them, but if they could be worth much more, they might be worth selling.
Great phat sounds, love the prodigy synth, just watched a short interview with Liam Howlette and he said he named the band "The Prodigy" after the Synth Moog,Fact
@theyellowibanezman This is no longer made. To get this exact sound remember you need a sequencer and a drum machine. The Moog Little Phatty ($1300 new) is amazing and will get you there.
where can i learn how to play this? can i just learn on my own? how can i record the sounds i make? and whats the price of the basic sinthesizer? thanks
@putamadrenicolas Yes, you can learn on your own- you won't get arrested or go to hell when you die. Seriously, there are many great books on the subject and some helpful vids right here on YT. I would learn to read music as wellas take a basic piano course.
nice, i wish i could afford a true analogue synth to setup near my virus, the combination could'v been great, besides that i like the the way it sounds.
hi awesome clips, can you tell me which synthesizer was used in midnigh stars "operator" that produced its fat synth bass. i can see the music clip on you tube but cant tell which synth brand it is.
retrosound72, i absolutely loved your video, and this is the first video ive seen of the moog prodigy. i immediatly tried to locate one for sale, but i cant find a single one. do you think you can make a five second recording of each wave form (saw, triangle, rectangle at 90% (almost square), 75%, 50%, and 25%, and perfect square)? i would be so greatful, and would be willing to make you some homemade drums, synths, and effects. flenjember37@gmail.com if you can. thanks!
@Jairusisawesome my first was a roland sh-201 (digital). its bass sounds almost analog, and its an amazing synth for only $600 but its leads are lacking.
if at all possible i would go with either an access virus ti2 (digital) or dave smith instruments prophet '08 (analog)
@stee1face yea, all you have to do is plug the audio output into an input on your computer, and record it in a program like ableton live (my first choice for recording)
People complain that modern synths are not as good [regarding sound] as the old analog gear but if you look at the 'Gary Numan Telekon mini tour-Stage set up' video, Gary himself praises the Access Virus [about 2 mins. into the vid.] I don't have a Virus myself but one of the original 'kings of synth' gives his opinion regarding reliability and emulation and it's an interesting video.Depeche Mode also make use of the same synth.
Analogue synths follows the characteristics of a natural human voice, it also drifts. Who sings exactly like a digital synth? which even a grand piano doesn't - it varies with atmospheric humidity and temperature.

meh, I really think there is a difference. For example, I can apply distortion, amp sims, reverb and other effects to simulate the sound coming from a crappy old amp, and then patch random changing freq per keypress LFOs on my R3 to sound, or tuning, or filter balance so that they change each time, but it still doesn't feel.... warm. How much would one of these cost ???
I think I will make it my ambition to obtain one of these, somehow.
I have read these are expensive and hard to maintain, i study electronics and
I am very keen on analogue, so labour wouldnt be an issue.
Do these contain tubes or transistors, or hybrid?
I may build a small version for fun , as I probably cant afford the real thing.:(
