  • Thank you for your reply

Adjusted drive cable Shift rod and cleaned friction disc and wheel as per your videos

    all well

    Thank you kindly Capettish

  • @capetish2 thanks for watching!

  • how do you adjust friction wheel to disc .Should be close to middle for reverse ?

    Thank you capetish2

  • @capetish2 yes, keep adjusting it until it shifts where you want it

  • Hey Dony i got an Ariens 10 horsepower snowblower, and its a BEAST. but i have a problem with the reverse gear. its does all 5 in forward no problem but the Reverse gear just slips a bunch. what could it be? if it was the friction disc the other 5 gears wouldnt work either right?

  • my snapper lt16 tractor has that type of drive

  • I have 2 chains running to my wheels in a tecumseh,.. one of em is busted,.. any ideas on how to get to it and replace it?

  • Thanks

  • Great vids I appreciate you posting them. I have an old MTD 640F about 16 years old has been a workorse for me here in the Northeast U.S. I have looked at some new models and various websites out of curiosity more than anything else, I intend on keeping mine as long as possible still runs strong but is getting pretty rusted. What is your opinion of the China built Powermore and LCT engines that are now being used by many manufacturers today especially in sub $1000. units?

  • @cardo1111 not sure about those import engines yet

  • got a questioon one of my main chain gears move what cuz it to do that

  • where did you get those tires?

  • I did adjust the drive cable but still does not work how much does a

    friction disc cost you think

  • @andrew07kelly usually $20 or less

  • hey dony my wheels on my toro snow blower do not move when I put it in to gear what they do is they rock back and forth I hope you can help thank you and i like your videos they me a lot and a saved me a lot of money

  • @andrew07kelly try adjusting the drive cable and or check friction disc

  • Help. I have changed the belts and Friction wheel in my Noma 10hp snow blower. But the friction wheel will not meet the friction plate so I can not go any where. The cable is adjusted, still can't get it to move. What changed to make it this way? Snowed 12 inches today and I need it.

  • @LMPservices make sure the cable is tight enough, it's hard for me to diagnose without seeing it

  • Do small engine shops sell theses friction disc rubbers? Or maybe I'll send Bocephus to your shop to get one in the spring for my craftsman blower. Mine looks worn out and it doesn't work in first gear when there's lots of snow. It probably needs adjusting also.

  • @adrienj67 i have that part here, u can get it also at any shop. i can get Bocephus to put it on for u if u want him to

  • Can't get enough of your videos. I probably will never do over half the things you talk about but you eplain them so well that I find them all very interesting. Thanks.

  • @Stuffyou100 thanks for watching them!

  • I have not taken my snowblower apart yet, but the machine does not want to run in 1st gear, only 2+. What are the likely causes of this so when I take it apart I can look for them. I suppose the disc could be greasy, but I would think that would spread to the rest of the disc via the rubber, or the rubber would be worn, but then why would it work in gear 2+? Thank you for the help.

  • @respondtomehere could be the gear shifter linkage adjustment

  • i like the way this mechanism does its job...makes me wonder about using friction disc method to get power to my metal lathe...cool info and vid ..thanks..laphant

  • Wonder if a friction disc setup could be used on a bicycle drive. Dony's chainsaw bicycle used direct friction. With a friction disc, you can isolate the friction drive from the elements a bit. Just a thought.

Check out Staton-Inc@com, Dony. They have the ultimate bicycle chain drive using a horizontal engine and clutch and also offer a planetary gear option. They have a small engine wheel barrow too. Or how about this, jetbeetle@com? A leaf blower would be cheaper though. :)

  • @WSmart1 i checked out those sites, it's pretty good stuff

  • If you need to move your blower around, you can isolate all the internal friction and allow the wheels to turn independently so you can turn the blower easier by pulling the cotter pin that locks the wheels to the axle and placing it in the outer hole which of course keeps the wheel from falling off. Not sure all blowers have that. With my Snapper they call it 'traction' or 'travel' mode. I find the pin is easy to move if I prop up the the back first.

Be real, be sober. Thanks all.

  • Well explained, excellent video !!

  • could you push start the snow blower by holding the drive lever down and pushing it?

  • @pivotboy63 no that wouldn't work

  • thanks dony

  • i had an ariens lawnmower with something like this and it was fucking retarded. it was belt to wheel to a friction disk to a gear and then to a sprocket. like wtf

  • Good One Dony.

When two-stage blowers are off and the friction plate is not engaged, why are they so hard to move? When you try to move it ththere is that loud whine sound. What gives it all that resistance in the gears if the friction plate is not engaged? Is it because the snow blower is so "front heavy"?

I think they manufacs should design something where there are dual friction plates (one for each wheel) and have the option for turning around where the wheels move in opposite direction

  • @pberglin

Some snow blowers have triggers to disengage one wheel or the other. This doesn't give you true front and back for easy turning, but it is close enough. The older Ariens machines have a differential on the axle which makes turning easy. Some of the very expensive Honda/Yamaha ones from other countries have dual hydrostatic drives I have heard and do allow that.

  • @pberglin

I would say your pushing difficulty is because of how some are set up. My Ariens has an intermediate jackshaft that sits between the two in there and the extra gear reduction for going forward makes it much harder to push. The noise is the chains connecting the setup. My Toro was setup so there was nothing in contact with the axle when disengaged and that rolled real easy.

  • @pberglin some snowblowers, i.e. Murray have the disc in addition to chains and sprockets and that's the noise u hear

  • I love working on Mtd Snowblowers they are so east to work on. Great video

  • Good video, it amazing such a simple system works so well

  • keep the vids comin truckin out
