SuperBoDuke, very interesting about Pino's brother in law owning her. I thought she looked a lot like her sire. I took pictures of her that day and Bloodhorse posted them on their MaidenWatch blog. The page title is "more Filare L'oro". When I saw the horses in the paddock, I kinda thought she wouldnt win, only because Bluegrass Atatude was so much more mature looking. that being said, she should improve of her fourth place finish and the bumping start.
I live close to Where Mario Pino lived when Hard Spun was racing in the 2007 classics and clearly remember the sign in front of his house Derby week wishing them luck..as was I. What a game horse and so beautiful. He has a very pretty head for a toroughbred. Im going on friday to Pimlico to watch his first offspring to start, race. She's a 2 year old filly named Filare L'oro which i am told means Spin The Gold in italian and her jockey is none other then Mario PIno .
Hard Spun was just born in the wrong year or maybe not. Incredible horse who never packed it in against against 2 other great 3 year olds. I think that qualifies him just a hair below Curlin and Street Sense and probably confirms what others have already posted with their respectful comments. Also reminds me of the Alysheba, Bet Twice and Lost code era, 3 great horses slugging it out.
This is really good...it's great to see this for Hard Spun, as he often gets overlooked. Any year but 2007 he would have been an absolute superstar. As it was, he was among the best in a classy crop of three-year-olds.
Hard Spun one of my favorites, all heart. Never turned in a bad performance, as soon as the gate opened he would get to the front and run his hardest. I only wish you had Kings Bishop 2007 race, that race showed his true heart!
Great job on this video I love it. Hard spun is one of my favorite racehorses of all time. I think he will be a great sire. And will carry on Northern Dancer's legacy.
Great video. He was my fav in the Derby. What a great run he gave that day. I'll miss him now that he's retired. I hope to get down to KY to visit and shoot some photos.
hey thankyou for putting this video on. iam Mario pino's niece and iam sure my uncle really appreciates all of this. He is un selfish about peoplpe amking a big deall but he is a great jockey and we are all very proud of him.
Hey you're welcome! =) Mario's niece? Lucky. haha He always seemed like such a nice guy. Let him know I think he's a great jockey if you get the chance. Thanks for viewing!
Thank you so much for posting this...He was always so underestimated by the press....but he was a true champion, so powerful, so fast. Even though he's retired now, we'll still get to watch him run on clips like that.
great! I love him too, i pulled for him big time esp. in the preakness and belmont...what heart, he did all the dirty work, but came up short, he's fantastic though. thanks.

@KLSHUGARS
To add to Mario Pino being the jockey, Filare L'oro is owned by Mario's brother in law........
