If a laff-trak is all that categorizes a sitcom, what would you call a show with comedy all the way through it? I don't remember a TV show ever being categorized as just a "comedy".

A laugh track is a characteristic of sitcoms. Slapstick comedy and lots of puns are also characteristics.

Phil of the Future had none of those. And plenty of TV shows have been characterized as just a "comedy." Shows like South Park, the Sara Silverman Program, Even Stevens (though that show had a lot of slapstick) were ALL shows categorized as just a Comedy.

Where videos aren't filmed in front of a live studio audience, and the laughter you hear after a joke is fake. The term is sometimes also used when there IS a studio audience though.

Basically, if you hear laughter after a joke, that's a laugh track.
