  • When do you use { x | x ≤ 28} notation instead of just x≤28???

  • i like the video but how do you graph the negative 1/3????? i dont know how to graph FRACTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! do you change it to a decimal/

  • uh.. whats with all the racist comments on this video? isn't this about math?

  • I really love these videos, I grew up never learning ANY kind of algrebra, or high level mathmatics, and now that I am in college I find myself struggling, but your videos help out SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH, Its great! Especially being a visual learner, and doing online courses, your videos are great!!

  • @1989Firecracker

Just out of curiosity, what did black people ever do to you? You call black people stupid, yet here you are, looking at math tutorials on youtube.

  • @1989Firecracker EVERYTHING > racist

  • HELPS SO MUCH

i'm doing better in math already cause of you!

  • i'm very grateful for your video's

  • this guy is my savior

  • really guys. this guy has made over 2,700 non profit videos to hopefully make you guys learn and actually get a better job. he is sacrificing his career to make sure ungrateful idiots like you go somewhere in your life. you don't have to watch this video just think about everything this guy is sacrificing including his time to help you idiot kids learn and you guys just sit there and say "well he sucks and is not helping me". I doubt you guys are going to go anywhere in your life anyways....

  • this part is where i'm kinda confused

  • ph... I got yelled at for gettin an f in Algebra 1... I guess u could say this helped...?

  • You didn't mention exponents for inequalities.

  • I have a D in math, and your not helping

  • @MegaCamerageek well u mustn't be that bright then, if u can't understand this then i don't think u ever can.

  • @MegaCamerageek i have a F in math, and this is helping

  • he sucks

  • Great Video! I was absent from school one day and I missed this lesson in Algebra, so this really helped me with my past homework.

  • this wasnt really helpful

  • I am going to fail algebra even with this help I can never understand this

  • thank you very much for your work! it's super helpful for my SATs!

  • Wait a minute how did you get the negative 5? Any plz answer

  • QUESTION: lets say X is on the right side and 5 is on the left side. I mean like this. 5 < x . would the number line be the same?

  • @510PinoyBoyz yes. it means x is greater than 5.

  • but how do we know that we are done with the problem??

  • i just dont get it

  • 18 people still don't get it.

  • Dude! Come teach in our school please!!

  • Yeah, as a teacher, i know it is hard to get ur student attention. But i can see u are trying ur best!! Keep it UP!

  • @DarkMan649 : Then get the fuck out

no one even cares that your a failure in life

  • @Homiez4life619 stfu nerdy oooooo

  • @DarkMan649 funny how you have it in your favorites.

  • @pellitaful :/

    STOP IT

  • can you make your videos louder

  • Dude i saw u 20/20 xD btw subed to u n ur tha best ever xD

  • my math hw was to watch this

  • khan academy > bad teachers

  • I'm in 7th grade and I understand this, whoever is doing these videos are being very clear on everything. I love that and now finally I get to learn something in math than reviewing all of it.

  • Oh thank god for this. My teacher can't teach crap. Just makes us writes notes down without explaning it that well and then she gives us a worksheet on coloring random things like apples.

    WHAT THE HELL, ALGEBRA TEACHER?!

  • STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP

  • STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP

  • This is a great video, but I still don't know what LHS means, or what I should do with it.

  • This is truely a revolution in education, You are helping me understand things in each video which I never fully understood in class. The teacher made me feel worthless and my aversion to math grew to epic proportions. It's even a wonder I'm watching these videos in my FREE time when I could be playing Battlefield2 online but for some reason Im geniunly entertained. I don't even need it for school.

May Khan revolutionize the worlds education.

  • you rock! you explain things way better than my actual math teacher!

  • omg thanks.

  • inequalities... how do they work?

  • Thanks M8 helped alot.

  • Youtube should take over the education system.

  • @zigzag747 Education would become a dark room with a dimly lighted board with random colorful lines that show math problems.

  • Do you ever get paid for this? Or do you do it for the good of us YouTubers?

Either way, thank you so much for helping! My math teacher is basically the same as Andy12332199 said... thanks again!

  • iam in 8th grade but how to you get the 5over 13

  • @kingdomheartvsrei

he got 5/13 because 13x means multiply

so you do the opposite to the other side so u get division so u just get 5/13

which means 5 divided by 13

  • thank's alot dear Khan it really helped me !! i wish you luck in your career

  • just like my math teacher, never shows us actually how to do the problem just does a couple examples and expects us to get 100% on the test. Im in 8th grade.

  • @EzGxDreamzzzz Thats why when u grow up make sure you vote libertarian! Democrats want to give more money to the DOE..which doesnt work..look at california.. and the republicans just don;t want to do anything. wierd but keep in mind!

  • ...huh. My math teacher taught it nearly exactly the same way (only the examples were different). I guess I'm just lucky that I have a good math teacher :D (btw I'm in 6th grade. I seem to be the only person who isn't in high school)

  • My HIGH SCHOOL math teacher gives the class 2 examples and expect us to do know the problem like that. and she goes through about 2-3 different lessons a day... Then If We're Bad. She Puts us in Time Out. ROFLMAOO. In HIGH SCHOOL !!!

  • My math teacher is so shit it's not funny...

  • omg this was ghey ma mother is making me watch this PLZ EXPLAIN TO ALEX HOW TO DO THIS NOT DO IT SHOW IT

  • ikr!..i hate my teacher

  • They should just slap on a youtube video during class, then give us the worksheet. We would learn more from youtube then the teacher.

  • i never got to know how to do these. it got frustrating after awhile. thank god we changed

  • If you want to become good at math go to my YouTube channel: (Mathmatchpoint). In my videos I will teach you everything about math step by step. I going to start with teaching you The Important Basic Math Skills (Arithmetic) and then I will teach you the more advanced Math topics. Just click on Playlists when you are on my channel and you will be able to watch my math videos in order. I promise that I will teach Math the easy way. Math is easy if you have a good teacher.

    Mathmatchpoint

  • 0:44 lol

  • Cool

  • When will you get around 2 covering every topic

( do they come out weekly or monthly )?

  • I want to be a chef and not a doctor, architect, scientist, or mathematician. In fact 80% of the world population doesn't want to be a doctor, architect, scientist, or mathematician, so they are making the majority of the people suffer for the minority.

  • French subtitles suck really bad. They're not synched.

  • @MrKiromunist Then fix them ;)

  • Thank you so much you saved my grade!

  • you're the best !!

  • so x must be somewhere between -5/13 and 5/13 ?

  • Can you help me to do this x+30<60???

  • @TheCarlana You subtract 30 from both sides (the 30 itself and the 60) and your answer is x<30.

  • Awesomee :)

  • Oh my gosh math is so confusing I really don't get it your teaching helped me but the next day I'm just gonna forget all of this!! Its not your fault its probably mine

or my teachers. I really need to understand math for what I want to do in the future too! I wish it would all just come to me but I'm sure everyone does... D:

  • It's just goes in one ear and goes out the other..I really don't get maths!!!!!!!

He might as well fart instead of speaking for 6 minutes,,,

  • Umm sorry to say but yes it is, any game, forum etc. generally uses a shortened version of speech. Lucky you freedom of speech! Me too! =) can you not understand that some people aren't too great at typing? There is no reason for you to abuse someone for their spelling and honestly why are you doing that on this particular video? why not go to a video with 100% bad spelling, probably easier to start arguments there, considering you're just doing it for the attention.

  • can you post a lesson on programming linear inequalities?

  • pfft

  • Omg now I get why you have to swap the sign if you divide by a negative. My teachers always told me to do that but they never showed an example exactly why it happens to be that way.

  • does Khan Academy have a video about solving and graphing inequalities with domains?

  • Gerardwayjr

    stop picking on people,

shortening your spelling on the internet is an international commonplace.

    Stop hassling people okay?

  • @KranksterTV My country comes with the handy dandy freedom of speech. ^_^

Shortening your spelling? No, it isn't an international commonplace. In fact - and this is partly due to my tendency to associate with people with some measurement of intelligence - the obscene use of the "word" "does'nt" is completely new to me. It's like a monkey was typing with his penis.

  • @GerardWayJr dude, everyone makes spelling mistakes on the internet, most people don't care about their spelling when typing a youtube comment.

by the way it is commonplace to type in shorthand.

  • @Cross3dPoisons Doesn't make you look like any less of a moron. :D Good luck typing out your resumes and job applications! I'm sure textspeak will look VERY professional.

  • @GerardWayJr i probably will write in shorthand when i write my first resume

  • @Cross3dPoisons Good luck with that.

  • After reading the comments, I am certain people need some help with their spelling and grammar.

  • Thank you for your video. I really needed help with inequalities. Praise Jesus for you. You are a blessing.

  • good video just at the end dont say have fun. Because this stuff is not fun but thanks for the tips.

  • Watching your video's soothe me when I'm heartbroken ):

  • Thnku SoO mUch u Just MAde Me Get an A+ in maths

  • @darkprincess12100 I suppose you got a B- in English.

  • @GerardWayJr I did'nt i got a b+!!hey don't make fun of my english!!its nt that bad

  • @darkprincess12100 ... "its nt that bad" ? Don't you mean "It's not that bad!" ?

    Yes. Yes, it is.

  • @GerardWayJr I write in short on youtube OK??Its not a crime is it??And it does'nt mean im bad at english!!so stop giving mean comments!

  • @darkprincess12100 "Does'nt" is not a word.

  • @GerardWayJr I get A's in English

  • @Prijman6666666 We have a winner! xD

  • LMFAO "point oh oh oh oh ohohohohoo oh one." You roke man. Im saved from my exams tomorrow

  • Dude, I could just listen to you read the phone book.

  • i thought when you divide both sides by and number, negative or positive, you HAVE to change the direction of the sign. Can some one help me resolve this?

  • Comment removed

  • ahhhhh thats all thats what i have been asking everyone about for a month thank u finly

  • i just realized you sound like a nightelf

  • bad teachers are the main problem

  • @1080portal

I'd say that, and different people learn different ways.

  • I think you're right. Now that I look back it seems that they were bad because they never had enough time. Khan academy gives you all the time you need.

  • @1080portal my math teacher already had 2 tests in the first 3 weeks and 2 quizzes

  • @SKILLS836

    Wow, really? That sucks.. :/

  • most algebra teachers never do their jobs right they just show a couple a problems and expect us to know it without showing us like the problems with fractions qnd decimals and stuff like that

  • @Andy12332199 you probably don`t know the purpose why the teachers do that. The reason is they wanted the students o think and gas up their brains. If already know everything you wouldn`t think bout anymore. The more harder the problem gets, the more intelligent you grow.

  • Comment removed

  • It is sad that i am 17 and just now leaning the basics. I have tried but i think my teachers don't know how to do their jobs. I just got what my teachers have been teaching for 4 years in 6:25. Thanx dude keep up the videos!!!

  • If it makes you feel any better, I'm 27 studying a computing access course to go to uni. I haven't had to look at maths since I took the GCSE back in 1997 so I am quite rusty on even some of the simple stuff. Just rusty I guess. Awesome video for revision though I've found this very helpful as well as reading from maths books.

  • This is pretty awesome. I love this lessons.

  • now i know..lol VITWATER

  • Man so many people aren't getting this and this is extremely basic. It's either the kids not paying attention or the teachers not doing their jobs.

  • @Tilferious

Its so basic you spent time clicking the link, watching the video, and making a comment ?

I guess you ment to click on calculus double integrals right ?

  • You misspelled meant.

  • @Tilferious no it's neither some people have learning disablities , others have mental blocks and just don't get math. not everyone is good at math even the basic stuff

  • yiggity yo, you be awesome

  • basically, if u divide both sides by a negative, you MUST reverse the inequality sign.

  • i don't get this, i'm in 7th grade but i want to get in advance so i'm studing a i don't get this O.O

  • me 2 but go back where u couldn't understand and see if it makes sense.

  • your not making sence i dont get you please explaine me

  • watch the video over and over again.. try to read some text books.. :D He DOES make sense.

  • im sure he is explaining it, but you have no brain

  • you know what ? I recommand you to clear all your mind just for this moment and try to use your brain

  • how do you know when to subtract the or add number's thats what gets me confused

  • How come you switched from mult. by the reciprical to dividing??? I was getting used to the other way, it keeps my work with fractions accurate...

  • lol i got my exam back in this, i had the highest score in the class of an 81 which is ok with me. The average for the class was a 73. My secret?? Youtube!!!!!! Thanks for the vids

  • Comment removed

  • move one side over with adding/subtracting and then find a common denominator

  • thank you i figured it out. My main problem was i was forgetting to switch the sign when i divided or multiplied by a negative.

  • as much as i could watch it i will never get it it doesnt make seance!!!!! to me :'o

some one help! i cant tell what my teacher means by this i need help or ill fail

  • i hate this

  • I'll never get this =(

and my math is more advanced. I'm in the eighth

grade and I'm like having problems with

< with a line under it and stuff

and im having fractions on it and stuff and i can't understand anything :(

im gonna fail my test. I know it =(

  • Im in university math ill tell you just go back to the basics( realize what you dont know) and study that.if you have to go back to day one or start with basic addition just do it just learn stuff step by little step and you'll get it. Good luck and cheer up

  • i still dnt get it

  • thankss

  • How about doing some problems like -4< x ≤1/2

  • i still dont get it. Im in middle school and only 11.Its so confusing. I always drift off and think about something else

  • I think it would have been better if Sal emphasized what his answer 'X' means: Such as: X tells me which interval of numbers would satisfy in maintaining the inequality, and which would solve it. If stated in this way, the actual purpose of solving inequalities is emphasized. Not bashing the Sal, just an idea of stressing the importance of what we can actually do with this equation.

  • Its ok now i get it :0

  • I drift off too. It's pretty hard to knock it off.

  • 0:44 5. O O O O O OOO O O O O OO 1

  • tyy yuu soo muchh, b4 dis stuff made no sense dis is awsumrifical :D

  • I'm gonna get an 'A' for sure..!!

    Thx khan academy..!!

  • for some weird reason i learn math better on here than in school. lol

  • Easy stuff

  • Thank you SO much!

  • thnx!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

All day I thought I was doing it wrong and just found out I was DOING IT RIGHT!

  • thanks a lot form italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much. Will really help with my GCSE's now :D (Y)

  • cooool

  • You're awesome! It took me 5 minutes to understand inequalities watching your video but I remember it taking me hours to figure out what my hs teacher was trying to explain..WOW!

  • I think it's fair to say Professor Khan knows his math much much more than your average highschool math teacher. The more you understand something, the easier you can explain it to someone. In my experience, most highschool teachers just read chapters from the text book the night before class, and just regurgitate it to the students.

  • Very true. Usually when it comes to the time of revealing the answers of certain set problems to the class, my teacher will stare at the problem for at least 15 seconds before shouting out "Ok....... who has the answer?". I hope the time of mass cloning will arrive soon so we can clone Sal and employ his replicas in all schools. We will hopefully then become a very smart planet indeed.

  • this guy really is amazing

  • thnx this worked and helped me :)

  • thanks man now i remembered solving this so far, its been a long time since it teached to me that made me kinda confusing nowadays im on calculus now and statistics, im going to watch more of your videos, thanks alot! have a great day :)

  • You are the best!!~ Because of you, Im not going to fail math, Thanks SO much!

  • this guy is the bomb!!!!! he makes algebra look like algeduh!

  • You rule man! Thanks for the great tutorials.
