They seem to forget that they are seperate people, she isn't up there to compete with anyone, she is simply doing what she loves and was born to do.

I have to agree with you. She has a voice like no other, and her humility and lack of ego make her all the more endearing. Talent should be appreciated. And she has it in abundance.
fab live version of the song..difficult to sing and she controls it brilliantly. I didn't like the acoustic guitar accompaniment though... a bit too busy in the background there...piano would have been better.
Unlike other divas, I can listen to Leona for a long time without getting fed up. I think it's because her voice is very versatile so she always makes songs interesting to hear, lots of loud then soft and vice versa.

I should school you on something. Because Leona does not yet have the privilege of performing to crowds the size that Celine can pull, she gets to perform in little coffee-shop looking venues. When you sing in such venues, it is more intimate and so you perform differently than if you were in front of an audience the size of which Celine sings in front of.
Celine oversing? Lol. Why are the only people who say that the ones who are threatened by the power behind her high notes? If you "love good music" as much as you say and listen to any of Celine's other music you would understand that she has a range that most other singers do not have. She uses the gamut of them in most of her songs, this included. When she goes low, it's beautiful, when it's time for her to bust out a high note, she puts other singers to shame.
You act as though she just screams through every single song from start to finish. I understand you're threatened by her, but at least be accurate in your criticisms. The point I was making was that you can sing something intimately when you are singing to a crowd of 50-100 people. When you are singing to stadiums, you kind of have to perform a little differently.
And Beyonce can sing a ballad or two. Ever hear her sing "Dangerously in Love" or "Resentment"? She's no Celine, but she's also no Britney. Why don't you broaden your horizons and actually listen to some music before you just pull random names out of your arse.
You can't be all "small and intimate" with your voice or your performance because the people in the back of the top balconies won't hear or feel your performance. Keep in mind they are singing the song differently because they are different versions. Putting more phony theatrics in your performance (i.e. Leona) does not equate more feeling. Sometimes subtlety goes further than anything when getting feelings across and Celine is a master of that.

I love Leona singing this because it fits her voice to a tee. Soft and powerful but not overpowering. Angelic and pure and also like natural and bare. As for the people who don't appreciate Leona's singing in this song, they're just way too fussy and have no idea what a true vocal performance is built around- stamina, power, range and ability. I am sorry but this just sounds too young with no depth. This is such a moving love song and she does not touch on any of the depth or feeling. Some of her notes even sound kind of off, like at some parts she just goes ahead of the music. Too plain. Roberta and Celine touch on the feeling of the song much better, Leona just does not get it.
Why did you apologize? Everyone has their own opinion. Anyway I prefer Leona's version to the original. I got chills listening to this. She is DEFINITELY the next big thing.

Actually, Leona is wrong about the writer of this song. It was written by Ewan MacColl - Kirsty's dad. Ewan was a prolific singer-songwriter of the Folk Revival in the 60s. Having said that - Leona does a wonderful job - as usual.
Celine certainly wasn't, but has anybody thought that when faced with the almost perfect live performances that Leona seems to effortlessly produce, the only way Celine could guarantee a comparable set was to offer a studio recording....just a thought ;) Leona has raised the bar, get over it ;-)
I think the point is that for some reason, "always flawless" or not, Celine chose to lip sync (badly too) on this occasion. The speculation in this thread was about the reason why. You may - possibly rightly - say that Celine usually produces good work live but here she didn't even though others did including the noobie Leona.

I love Leona singing this because it fits her voice to a tee. Soft and powerful but not overpowering. Angelic and pure and also like natural and bare. She sings this song with the perfect amount of emotion and clarity. Shes beautiful and her voice is just so amazing. I love her and she is starting to become comparable to the great like Celine, Whitney, and Mariah

She sings this perfectly. As for the people who don't appreciate Leona's singing in this song, they're just way too fussy and have no idea what a true vocal performance is built around- stamina, power, range and ability. Far better than most of the amateurs nowadays, and for all those haters, you must have a cotton bud plunged down your ear-holes to even dare think of this as "emotionless", because it's anything but that.

I am sorry but this just sounds too young with no depth. This is such a moving love song and she does not touch on any of the depth or feeling. Some of her notes even sound kind of off, like at some parts she just goes ahead of the music. Too plain. Roberta and Celine touch on the feeling of the song much better, Leona just does not get it.

The line is: "...endless skies," not, "...empty skies." At least get the text right! Nice voice, but way too brassy at times for the subtlety that this song means to convey.

i think she is the next big thing of our generation and is definitely up there with mariah carey, minnie riperton, anita baker, whitney houston... if you criticized then that was because you are jealous of her talent. finally, i like the fact that she does not act like a diva; it is a nice change to all those over-confident and cocky artists that do not nearly reach her level of talent.

The album does not reflect Leona's singing personality it's too stuck in an Eighties early nineties period.
Her voice is too falsetto and has too much air for my liking. I like Leona but 'Spirit' is not her full potential

Actually, Leona is wrong about the writer of this song. It was written by Ewan MacColl - Kirsty's dad. Ewan was a prolific singer-songwriter of the Folk Revival in the 60s. Having said that - Leona does a wonderful job - as usual.

Roberta Flack wasn't the first to release the track - it was an old song written in 1957. However, Roberta's was the one that popularised it.

I think the point is that for some reason, "always flawless" or not, Celine chose to lip sync (badly too) on this occasion. The speculation in this thread was about the reason why. You may - possibly rightly - say that Celine usually produces good work live but here she didn't even though others did including the noobie Leona.
