I`ve seen JJW a few times , Bars in Memphis to the top of the Peabody Hotel, last time was at Grand Central Station in Anchorage Alaska back in the 90s....always had a great show
They used to close down a classic old bar called the Dixie Chicken in College Station by playing this song followed by Pissin in the WInd. Everyone would be standing on the benches and chairs singing them both. Good stuff.
@rustyscalpel68 Oh I haven't thought about the Dixie Chicken in years. I worked at the Hall of Fame, before the fire, and we would go to the Chicken on our nights off.
I heard it the first time on a snowy night in the Colorado Rockies. A bunch of crazy friends were celebrating keeping warm. My sister and I danced to it all night. Now, the man who wrote it Chuck Pyle is my neighbor in this tiny Colorado town. This song got me through my life, Chuck says the same..Keep 'er Steady Chuck
london homesick blues was my 1st.... wanted to name my firstborn JerryJeff, hubby nixed that :( JJW kissed me once, backstage in vegas :) don't tell!!!! well my mama saw us anyway but she's a fan too!!!!
Going back down to the Luckenbach of the Caribbean in a couple of days. All you Tried and True Warriors out there oughta come down and join us. It's a helluva party.
Jerry Jeff. No one brings out the feeling of a song like this guy. From playfullness to sadness to thoughtfulness to unbridled fun, he owns his songs by how he can hit on the emotion of it in its completeness. An American treasure.
When I tell people that Jerry Jeff Walker is my favorite artist of all time, they usually respond with "Who?...". He puts on a great show. I could keep his music playing all day. In my opinion, "The Godfather of Texas Music".
Repeating myself here but if you're a Tried And True Warrior you need to come to Camp Belize. Join about 150 people next January who know every word of every Jerry Jeff song and aren't ashamed to sing along. No better way to spend a cold, snowy January than sitting on Wet Willie's dock with 150 new friends with a cold Belikin in your hand singing along to Jerry Jeff.
Lloyd Maines is the one playing lead guitar,Jerry,Gary P Nunn,Bob Livingston,Lloyd Maines were the original Gonzos,Ray Wylie Hubbard was always solo artist, and after Jerry and Gary had falling out,Gary was back to being a solo act. Lloyd is one of the finest players,be it a steel guitar or any other.
The great album version of this song is paced considerably slower, to much greater effect, listening pleasure & enjoyment. I think that Jerry Jeff maybe should've performed this number more in its original format .. for a more emotive response / impact ... especially for JJW's core 'gonzo' type of following. Fear not, I remain a long-standing, forever-faithful Jerry Jeff hard-core fan. Creative artists & song-writers of his eminent ability don't come along that often, after all ...

This song gives me chills down my back. It's a double back blind turnaround on a hairpin corner on a mountain pass. This is one smart Texan.

Had a drink with JJ back in 85(?) before he went on at the Olde port Inn in Avila beach Ca. What a really wonderful individual.

Sorry pal but Lloyd Maines is not part of this band. He did play with JJW but was NOT an original member of the Gonzos.
The lead guitar player featured here is Mr. John Inman who was the original lead guitar player in the Gonzos.
The original pedal steel player in the Gonzo's was Leo LeBlanc who JJ pilfered from John Prines band, just to set the record straight.

Every Jerry Jeff fan knows when he heard "Jaded Lover" for the first time. It's quintessential JJW. Come join us in Belize in January 2010
