This is one of the best performing engines on youtube!! How does your garrett TV81 compare to a holset ST-50 as far as size? Just curious, I'm building an afterburning engine myself, and want to know what kindof speeds i could expect :P
Thats 70 mph i dont care what dumbasses say different the lines are long and you can see the spinning truck tires and the blowing jacket on the cameraman!!! very cool!!!!
@curtknows101 Too true, those lines are parking markers for two cars nose to nose. I know what speed we ran (all day long) and so do you - that's all that matters :-)
nice run ! There's a few dedicated jet and rocket guys out there and good on em - is it realy difficult to put this stuff on a small boat ? is salt or water spray leathal to components ???
Garrett TV81 turbocharger, no blueprints though - i more or less bodged it together using freely available info from forums etc. go to yahoo group - diygasturbines - for loads of friendly help.
Truth is, the hobby is not about the kart at all, nor how fast (or slow) it goes - the fun we get is in building the engines ourselves, putting them on something is merely to demonstrate that they can produce useable thrust. It's a testbed.
Sorry mate but all these jet karts are the same you spend heaps of money on them and they end up pretty much slow,a big bike engine is the way to go...hayabusha,R1 etc!
You believe want you want, I used a handheld GPS to confirm the speed, the camera truck & the car from which this bit of film was shot also confirmed the speeds - maybe your getting confused by the length of the white lines.... they are very long. So, unless you were there on that cold february morning you really are in no position to accuse me of lying!
70mph and she was just getting going - we only had a short strip to play with and some of that was used to stop!. Not bad since that engine weighs 5 times more than a kart engine and i'm 14 stone :-) plus I use a heavy high pressure LPG tank and a kerosene tank for reheat, add to that a big 12v battery to run the ancilleries it's a heavy old beast.
hi nick. i am curently building my own jet engine but i read through your posts that twin entry turbos are not suitable. why not? i will be using a holset turbo and it is twin entry.
That thing was very slow. I was ready the other replies and thought they were joking. You should check out my minibike videos. We would kill that thing in a drag race.
wipedemgunzoff you really are a complete and utter prick. The guy built it himself. Do you think you could do that? Garbage? What an absolute chump you obviously are. Why don't you try building your own kart then to show us how it's done? You are clearly a bumbling fool.
On that day we ran up and down the short 1/8th mile strip 8 times and she consistently made 67mph still accelerating hard before having to slam on the anchors. The top speed was never reached as we didn't have enough room - as for efficiency.... What's that? :-0
what is the top speed of your Kart? and how about the fuel Efficiency? ----------------- --> How about the fuel Efficiency of a vaulveless pulsejet and a turbo jet, what is better?
Of course it would, you've all seen the supercar versus fighter jet - car beats jet....for a little while!. And the engine is very securely built to the chassis, it ain't going anywhere.
Sweet! Tho I would definitely want larger wheels for stability. Have you considered converting it into a turbine engine? Mechanical motion vs just relying on thrust.
Its because of how a jet engine operates. A jet engine moving at low speed on a vehicle generates very little horsepower. But the faster air moves over the intake, the more power it makes. Jet engine =/= fast off the line.
How much would you charge me to fit one of your jet engines in my inlaw's car??? That way they would just zoom past my house every weekend... he he he...
ha ha thats wicked, I always wondered if putting slightly larger wheels would alloow them to go faster, I know it would take more effort to make it start moving, but they seem like they would allow for more speed than the standard ones, but sweet kart nonetheless :)
Anyone who uses bad language or are generally abusive will have the comment removed and blocked. Asking to 'check out my vids' will result in me checking your 'vids' and if deemed terribly off topic, will also be removed and blocked. Have a nice day!.
No need. It's a case of 'either - or'. PJ's are great but in my opinion you can't beat the sound of a turbojet!. Get yourself a good largish turbo (make sure you don't get one with divided exhaust inlet or wastegate) then join the yahoo group 'DIYgasturbines'.
70 actually, with an engine lump weighing 8 times more than a kart engine. Short strip - hard on the brakes to make her stop!. Come back and comment when YOU have built your own Turbine engine :-)
i wouldnt pay too much attention to the shit4brains who only post negitive remarks buddy, well done, im sure i remember some dude getting killed on one of those rocketkarts.
na sorry mate. just going fishing. I know it would be cool just building such a thing. but at the end of the day if you like driving the thing then puting a powerfull motorbike engine in their would probably be cheaper and go a lot faster.
If we could reach 'top' speed without running out of tarmac i doubt very much that a kiddy kart would come close. And i can assure you, building these engines from scratch is very fulfilling and not a waste of time or effort!.
Very Good!, Finally a video of a home brew jet car/bike using a "chase car" for the camera. Most times the video shows a quick start and then nothing but a dot on the horizon that might be the "jet powered something"
have a look at my next build...nickhaddock(dot)co(dot)uk/jetgolbuggy(dot)htm this is a long term project with attention being given to all the engine systems etc. Morbious mentioned thrust reverser, not really practical - but a variable geometry jet nozzle will be..should be a mean machine when she's all done!
^^oops my bad I mean having the engine directly BEHIND you. Lol, behind the engine... what was I drinking (looking at the expiration date on can of coke " 21 Sep 1986 ") .... oh.
Damn! I reakon if it was on a perfectly flat and longer road you definatley would have gained some serious speed with that thing. Btw shouldn't you be wearing better protection since you are seated directly behind a jet engine?
that stretch of concrete is only 1/3mile...so we only had part of that to accelerate (remember we have to slow down as well). but even then we managed a steady 68mph over about 8 runs up and down. she could have gone much faster over a longer strip.
You need a reverse thruster system. Something that will deflect it away from you of course, but that would allow you to go a little further then stop.
Try that on a kit plane next!
(on a second thought, maybe you shouldn't....)
