  • This guy is a pure genius. Everything he's done has been truly fantastic.

  • @09:30 Joe mentions about being stopped in the street and questioned about the "Gorilla" lyric in "Is She Really Going Out...".

That's exactly what I thought when I first heard it. You gotta remember there were many racist comments that black people got back then and that was one of them.

Anyway, I was convinced that he didn't mean it offensively once hearing his anti racial track on one of his LP's. Can't recall the name ATM.

  • This interview and the reading of JJ of his first chapter of his book to his audiance before a concert ,is on the 25th anniversary dvd. The reading of the book is so much fun.people expect a concert and he start to read out of a book telling, "ÿes you will get a concert too"haha, he,s funny as hell, intelligent and down to earth even shy sometimes, that,s kinda kute ;-)

  • Re: Maby, I'm so happy JJ gives him props. Without someone of Maby's unearthly talent, I'm not certain JJ would of or could have reached the levels of excellence in so many different musical genre's as he has. No doubt JJ's the primary talent, but Jackson+Maby=untouchable talent, as opposed to Jackson-Maby+mediocre bassist=something far more common. JMO, of course.

  • I'm surprised to hear him downplaying his earlier lyrics- I've always thought they were great, on all his albums!

  • cool accent.

  • I have so much more respect for JJ after hearing this. It's the exact opposite reaction I had after listening to a very recent Terry Hall interview. JJ is so down to earth. What a relief!!! I was a huge Specials fan (still am) and through that became a Terry Hall fan, but it was very disheartening listening to his interview. Listening to this interview of JJ is really uplifting, not at all depressing...

  • Is the Terry Hall interview to which you refer available online anywhere?

  • @twisteddsister who is Terry Hall?

  • @evelynmh

    You taking the piss??

  • @PrAnG2000 Sorry PR don't get the reference taking the piss??? Sorry Terry Hall isn't exactly a household name in the United States. Just didn't know who this person who is so seemingly important elsewhere in the world is not anyone I've heard of in the States

  • @evelynmh

    I don't mean it aggressively. ;-)

Terry Hall was the excellent lead singer of the 2 Tone group, The Specials. Now as you say you're from the U.S. I understand that you may not know the name, but I'm sure you know their music.

  • Have you read Joe's book? I loved it.

  • Sorry for getting back to you so late. No, I haven't had the pleasure. I had no idea he'd even written one. I'll certainly check it out. The more I learn about Mr. Jackson, the more amazed I am. Ya know, I don't really care for much of David Bowie's music (why am I bringing Bowie up?), but I've always thought Bowie was the most talented, well rounded entertainer in the world and I think a successful book puts JJ close to that strata. Best of all, unlike Bowie's, I love Jackson's music.

  • A very interesting interview with a very talented musician, its just a pity that it wasn't framed and edited better.

  • in my dreams alan bangs is taking off on one of his night flights again and dedicating it to the musical genius of joe jackson...

  • Alan Bangs rules!

  • Joe Jackson was educated at the Royal Academy of Music (he mentions this at 5:46 in this interview.) Joe is indeed so underrated. He is an outstanding performer who loves to perform live.

  • "A Cure for Gravity" is an autobiographical book about JJ's life. He mentions the Royal Academy and also that Annie Lennox (Eurythmics' vocalist) attended around the same time that he was there. Definitely worth the read if you're a die-hard Joe Jackson fan.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll check it out!

  • Thanks so much for this. I'll definitely pick it up and I had no clue such a book existed until now.

  • just antother thing

  • I love everything this man does and this is the first interview that I've seen him in and am happy to see that he's really cool. I had a feeling he was educated at a music school. And I think Beat Crazy has some of the most profound lyrics ever! God Bless you Joe Jackson and thank you for the wonderful, wonderful music. Only you and Hank Williams can make me cry.

  • I love Joe's accent.Zebrina
