  • This really creeped me out when I saw it. I understood vaguely that it was based on a "grown-up show". The double beaks stayed in my head for years...

  • can't stop laughing!!! Oh man this is brilliant.

  • UM NUM NUM NUM UNM NUM!!!! LOL

  • is the opening theme supposed to be a parody of the masterpiece theater song?

  • haha! love it!

  • The only instances where Twin Peaks didn't "make sense" was for those who lacked the brain capacity for creative expansion and a broad experience process of the mind. In other words, those who didn't get Twin Peaks = mentally undeveloped and/or fucked ;-o)

  • "How Should I know... I'm Just a Log"

    A True Monsterpiece

    -darn fine pie!

  • May the log be with you.

  • "That not darn fine answer!" LOL.

  • Ha! A talking log

  • as if the wathcers of sesame street understand twin peaks

  • Thats smashin'!

  • Holy crow, those puppets are super creepy with those strange double mouth things...

  • Sesame Street was the shit back in the day

  • Why would Sesame Street, an educational show for kids, do a Twin Peaks parody?

    Like, what the fuck?

  • omfg!!! so fuckin funny...

  • I keep trying to guess what it might be like for a someone to try to comprehend this skit if they haven't seen Twin Peaks. Although, this probably holds a lot more more narrative structure...

  • Special Agent Cookie! LOL!

  • I could NOT understand this sketch when I saw it as a kid. It just didn't make ANY sense to me.

As an adult, it's hilarious. I just had to realize that Twin Peaks didn't make any sense, either.

  • Awesome!

  • ...It actually took me until David Finch showed up to get the joke. /fail

  • This is hilarious..

  • love it! even sesame street cashed in on the awesomeness of twin peaks!

  • I love how this is for kids.

    Brilliant

  • Darn fine cherry pie. I was waiting for Special Agent Dale Cookie's arm to start going numb.

  • this really freaked me out too when I was a kid. Muppets can be freaky

  • it a twin peaks parody. two peaks. davd lynche's twin peaks.

  • HOW SHOULD I KNOW IM A LOG!!

  • this stuff is the best, and yet todays kids are still being force fed retarded, unentertaining elmo.

  • Oh I remember this skit from when I was a little kid! Geez! Now that I look at those muppets they are creepy. My kids think so too.

  • WHAT?

    WHAT?

    WHAT?

    ... WHAT?

  • 0:26 see the pipe? some1 been naughty ;)

  • David Lynch + Sesame Street = What?

  • That's some pretty epic music.

  • THAT NOT DARN FINE ANSWER

  • Great how they capture the mood of the series. Especially when the Logbird appears :) Funny monsterpiece.

  • did Cookie Monster just steal a pie?

  • Too long a pause when Finch is talking to Laura.

  • I luv this furry blue garbage disposal!!!!!

  • "Diane this agent cookie reporting" HAhaha

    great parody

  • Log Bird!

  • Oh man...I think I remember this. Obviously I didn't know what it was a reference to at the time, but now I find it clever now that I'm familiar with "Twin Peaks".

  • my god! this is the greatest thing ever!

  • when i was five, i was in arizona with my mom, visiting my grandpa, and i was watching sesame street by myself. and this came on. and the first time a bird turned around and i saw those two beaks, i was so scared that i ran out of the room to go find my mommy... and i couldn't find her! i was so scared.

18 years later, i saw it here on youtube.

    STILL FREAKY.

  • yeah, I can see how that'll freak you out

  • Retard.

  • ...harden up : )

  • hahaha David Finch!!

  • Hahahehop! even the tremolo-ed guitar at the end is mocking the theme song. LOVE IT

  • Creepiest...Muppets...EVER!

  • no. search youtube for Muppets Glutton

    that shit is terrifying.

  • This is so weird

  • This is utterly tremendous.

  • hah you have puppet vids

  • Gotta love Cookie Monster! Ogm, nom nom nom nom!

  • holy god that's awesome

  • let's go... laura.

  • Twin Peaks Parody

  • Cookie gets to the bottom of it a lot faster than Cooper ever did.

Was the intro to Monsterpiece Theater always that long?

  • david finch & laura!! awesome!

  • Hell Yeah,Thats what I want my 4yr old son saying"Darn fine Pie..Darn Fine."

  • O MY GOD.... I cant believe this is on here!! this was SOOO frightening when we were younger!!! that, and the Ernie and Bert one in the pyramids... I'm totally gonna look for that now...

  • I thought this was SOO scary when I was younger! Im about to search "Twin Peaks" and see what it is about...

  • You should watch twin peaks. If you like David Lynch, you love it.

  • darn fine pie

  • The bird with the log sounds like Mr. Burns from The Simpsons!

  • oh yeah it aired, i remember my family mocking it for years

  • Oh...my...god...

I don't have words to describe how terrifying this is. Sesame Street is fairly frightening as is, but paired with Twin Peaks (which scares the hell out of me, but I love, btw)?? Was this actually aired?

    *runs* *cowers* MOMMYY!!

On the other hand, Cookie Monster as Cooper...is slightly hilarious. DAVID FINCH!

  • brilliant.

    just brilliant.

  • GOOD TEXTURE!

  • how freaking weird must this sketch have seemed if you didn't know the show?

  • omg! i totally forgot about this... and only understand what was being parodied now. i was watching twin peaks videos and stumbled upon it by accident. crazy.

  • HOLY FUCK - when the log talks - total creepout!

  • Darn fine... LOL. This skit is awesome!

  • i remember this... It terrified me!

  • Comment removed

  • I really appreciate this on many levels.

  • God, when I saw this as a kid this creeped me out really bad. I'm glad I found this on youtube so I can know it wasnt just me having a really wierd dream o_<

  • i love twin beaks :)

  • lolol. Darn good pie. >D

  • Cookie Monster laced with special Browneees must be a joy of an event hawooohaha

  • wow this is real, I vaguely remember this, no one else I talked to remembered it

  • i'm 22 and with the way children's shows are these days it almost brought a tear to my eye to see something that reminded me of my childhood. darn fine memories :)

  • I agree.

  • "I'll see you later, Laura."

  • It's just too bad that they didn't get the actor that plays Bob to dress up like "Demon Bob" or have Elmo talking backwards and dancing.

  • I think after the first time I saw this, I was describing everything as "darn fine..." for about a month.

  • "How should I know, I'm a log!" They're so right xDDD

  • This is my favorite Monsterpiece Theatre. I love how they got the Log Lady, how it centers around Cookie Monster, and how the Twin Beaks just came out of nowhere. The just M. Night Shamalaned my ass

  • Cookie Monster rules!

  • lol David Finch!! :D

  • i know!! i was just about to type this (:

  • this is fantastic, as good as snl sketch. "me like bird who knows own name" rofl

  • Check please!

  • Good skit!!! Would have been cooler if Sesame Street Bob popped up dressed as Twin Peaks Bob. Another cool thing would be if Elmo was in the "waiting room" doing the weird talking and dancing...

  • so excellent! i am just in awe Sesame Street would do such a wonderful and funny/faithful parody to such a fantastic show

  • The original creators of Sesame Street concieved the idea that it should be written for kids, but also for adults, in the hopes that the parents would watch with their children.

  • one of my finest laughs in a time of sorrow. thank you.

  • i so totally empathize with you. the muppets are more helpful than any therapy or drug. we should talk.

  • I was only 7 when Twin Peaks aired, so I actually don't understand this skit at all and I'm almost 25.

  • oh, man. you have got to get the show on DVD. it was so amazing and different. it was a mystery, but a comedy, a thriller, but a farce, and it was.... divine

  • DARN FINE SKIT!

  • wauw. i'm sitting here completly forgetting it's a childrens show... cause it's so great. I just really enjoy

  • I am an adult and I watch this stuff

    whatever jona

  • Omnomnomnomnom.

    Chay xx

  • i gotta say, this is a damn fine parody. what i find strange is that Twin Peaks is most definatly not a show for children and it was on past their bed time. so it begs the question: who was this sketch written for? A child wouldnt appreciate it, and would pobably find it shallow and pedantic, and adults wouldnt be watching sesame street. regardless, this is genius and very endearing. There were so many "in" jokes in this. Its so sad that Sesame Street lacks this quality of writing. T

  • Sesame Street started very smart, with clever jokes and references and oddball stuff sprinkled throughout. Early on its makers were worried kids would learn poor language skills from Cookie Monster. They tested it and the kids *got it*. They knew the difference.

Sadly the show slowly got less and less daring. This is a mid-period clip. Today it's bland as can be. Still beats a Dora but mostly plays it safe, hamstrung by by-the-numbers education professionals.

  • adults would be watching sesame street with their kids, the kids would enjoy the sillyness and the adults would enjoy the clever, but sly comedy. It's genius writing.

  • parents would be watching sesame street

  • This is one of the best examples of childrens television having layered meanings. It's like when aardman studios reference different films in wallace and gromit that older people understand while the younger people watching enjoy the story. It keeps it relevant apart from nostalgia when watching it years later.

  • THIS IS AWESOME!

  • darn fine pie! lol

  • Good texture!

  • o man i cant believe they did this! def for the tripped out parents watching sesame street with the kids!!!

  • That music makes me feel so smart lol

  • Good texture!

  • this is a great parody, 'I'm a log, how am I supposed to know?' hahaha. It's got the same surreal use of language as Twin Peaks.

  • David Finch lol

  • oh my goodness i love all you people for posting these! i completley forgot about monsterpiece theatre! thankyou so much for posting im so nostalgic now :)

  • this is the greatest thing ever.

  • This is amazing.

  • "That not darn fine answer!"

  • amazing

  • yaaaaaaaay that was DARN fine!

    lol

    i love that!

both i love both of those shows ...

and theyre like put together and and its totally amazing!!

  • Did Sesame Street beat out Darkwing Duck to make fun of Twin Peaks?

  • "how should i know? i'm a log!" LOLOLOL!

  • This was what made Sesame street outclass any preschool tv that the UK could offer. I remember watching it with my very young kids. They loved it for it's wackiness and I couldn't believe how the writers had taken a disturbing adult show like Twin peaks reworked it for babies and still got so many smart cross references in for the adults. They even have David Lynch (Finch) acting slightly deaf. Genius.

  • After watching Twin Peaks, this video became one of the most amazing things ever.

  • "Darn fine town!"

    "Darn Fine pie!"

    "Darn fine plate, too!"

"That's not a darn fine answer!"

    "Darn fine story!"

    "Darn fine actor!

    "Darn fine pie!"

I never saw this when it originally aired, but I must say that I'm surprised that Cookie Monster said "darn" (and so many times!) in this vignette...considering that it's geared toward children...

  • ...he said darn.

sheesh. people like you make me want to scream.

  • "Om nom nom nom!"

  • *GASP* he said "darn"

  • I loved Sesame Street as a kid; this was one from my generation.

It has SEVERELY dropped in quality over the past 15 years.

I LOVE this one, esp. because I am a huge fan of Twin Peaks.

  • "that not darn fine answer"

"me like bird that knows own name!"

    classic cookie

  • just perfect. thanks for uploading this.

  • heeheehee XD Cookie's the best!

  • "Darn fine pie". Hee hee hee!

Too bad kid's t.v. is so lame now.

  • "Diane: Me hurt the logs feelings today, and me no closer to finding out why they call this place Twin Beaks."

I wish I could have thought of that.

  • the double beaks scared me as a kid!!

  • I'm so glad to know I didn't make this up when I was a kid. My friend and I argued over this for a week, and I so just sent it to him.

  • That is so creepy. I love it

  • i remember this! i certainly didn't understand it as a kid.

  • when you combine the muppets and david lynch you simply cannot fail.

  • how should i know? I'm a log! lol

  • Agent Cookie, hahahaha!! That's great!!

  • Did you catch the Badalamenti-esque music partway through? Nice.

  • I loved watching the beginning of "Masterpiece Theatre" with my parents when I was a kid because of these bits in Sesame Street. Now I love the whole show ;)

  • I love this classic.,

  • I love that classic opening. It's so classic. with cookie Monster eating cookies and the cookie crumbs get all over the place. MMMM-MMMM

  • thank you so much! my fave monsterpiece theatre. i loved twin peaks and was dying when i saw twin beaks a few years later. i love all the references "darn fine pie", "log bird", "laura".....good job on the log bird cuz the log lady was creepy

  • I've always loved Cookie Monster.

    Hilarious!!

  • That was friggin awesome :)

  • When I was little this used to scare the heck out of me especially with that errie tune before ''twin beaks''and then actually seeing the birds with ''split/twin beaks''.Super scary back in the day

  • I thought it was just me!! lol This scared the fuck outta me as a kid. Were I live this episode only aired like twice, the other episodes reran for like years!

  • cookie monster, stop crumblin' cookies all over and swallow :)

  • anyone notice even the music playing in the background is very similar to the twin peaks theme?

  • "Om nom nom nom!"

  • *GASP* he said "darn"

  • Twin Peaks is one of the greatest TV shows ever...as is Sesame Street. :)

  • you mean Twin Beaks

  • Very good, but they forgot to include Waldo the myna bird! that would of been cool :)

  • I'm sorry now I've missed watching Twin Peaks when it was on.

  • Not Me!

  • cookie monster vs, David Duchovny

  • THIS ROCKS!

  • This stuff tops current-day SNL by far. SNL's Twin Peaks parody, while still very funny, has nothing on Special Agent Cookie.

  • Umm...wow. He even talks to Diane. David Finch? The log bird? Wow. I wonder what child got the joke?

  • I guess they aimed to entertain children and parents at the same time - on different levels though, of course. ;)

I must admit, the double beaks are scary...still.

  • AWESOME. Fuck, I NEVER knew Sesame Street did references this obscure!

  • At the time it was made, this was in no way an obscure reference. Twin Peaks was an incredibly popular show.

  • there was only 1 spoof i actually got, "SQUEAL! OF! FORTUNE!"

  • You must not have had parents who were into public television. I got most of the titles but of course I didn't watch the stories so sometimes that eluded me.

  • if you mean me, that's not true, i only got it because i used to watch "wheel" every night with my parents.

  • they did all the time in the 80's, early 90's... then it seems like they dumbed it down or something.. Maybe it's me and I do favor the ones I grew up with -- they changed my life, introduced me to the Beatles and SO much amazing stuff, I don't know where to START!!! But watching the newer episodes while babysitting my nephews... It just... Ehh... Its great to see people like Conan on there and stuff, but *shrug* I guess.. How much is there left to DO, ya know?

  • you know, this is terrific. but I really wonder how many kids actually got this. super awesome.

  • You've got to put something in there for the adults, eh?

  • hehe, awesome awesome sesame street i love it!!!
