@SnakePlissken001 whats wrong with the english one? the screaming guitar riffs mixed with zolonoid sounds and that epic voice that says "GUYVER"? it creates an awesome atmosphere to the series.
@1shoryuken That's everything that's wrong with the "English" opening. It's not only in Guyver, but it was common for animes from the 80s and early 90s to have their original theme songs replaced with generic guitar riffs and techno remixes, during the English dubbing process. I happen to like the original opening much better, as the entire song captures the essence of what the Guyver truly is. "Guyver! Corpse of an orgre. Guyver! A setting soul. Invincible defender, Guyver!" Badass.
Well,... these anime shows were not ever shown in my homeland when I was a kid, we only had transformers, robotech, go shogun, voltron and blue princess( or something like that), and neither was shown complete..., none the less it is good to be able to refresh childhood memories,... thanks youtube
i liked this dub better than the newer one.when i was 9 my friend took this from his older brother and showed it to me.ever since i became hooked on anime.
i remember when we got this stuff for the 1st time in Britain via MANGA vid or ANIMEGO..it felt really special..the music was a bit more krautrock in the english dubb to GUYVER if i remember right..?
I like the version put up by Manga entertainment for the British dub better than this one. The new series is more close to canon though.( almost 100%)
That poor zoanoid at 1:20, didn't even do anything yet! He was just standing there and the guyver just decided to shoot him in the eyes for no reason!
1986??? This series OVA series began in 1989! It was the other OVA "Out of Control" that was from 1986. This one does rock all over the new one though!
Wtf this is bullshit i ordered the guyver ova on dvd and the company that dubbed it didnt have the rights to the opening song so its just this really quiet music in the back ground and sho sounds like a fag
1986? do u mean the music is from the 80s? coz I remember seeing the old guyver anime from the 80s, then in the 94 they had guyvers 1 to 12 with the same opening as this.
This series kicked the shit out of the more recent one. However, the UK release had MUCH better opening credits. Manga Entertainment used to do a pretty good job of localisation back in the day.
@OlaftheFlashy Well, in this case, life was created by space aliens. All the evolution stuff was just a practical joke made by the fore runners to baffle the stupid ape creatures.
@kuroi96 For some reason in anime they love the goddamn elbow blades. Baoh...he had elbow blades. In Wicked City the dude had spike elbows that extended.
just found the manga for this online, and i was like wat the fuck, over 24 years, there were only 172 chapter, seriously, this came out b 4 i were even born, and it have 172 chapter O.O
my first anime lol i was like 4 or 5 when i watched this series. and i watches the live action movies too... after becoming a fan of Metal Gear Solid i almost shit my pants realizing that David Hayter was the Guyver
I never really was into the original Guyver anime till now, and it is definitely awesome. My brother got me into the Guyver when he would constantly watch this anime, the new one, and the live action movie. He even has a few figures and one day I just sat and watched an episode and was automatically hooked!!!! I love the Guyver and this original anime is just so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this intro too!!!!!!!!!
Retro is definitely the way to go. Especially in this case.Honestly, I'm really disappointed they even bothered to make a new version. It doesn't even get close to the absolute awesomeness of the OVA. I grew up with Guyver. It makes me sad that new generations won't be able to appreciate the artwork and characterization that went into '86 production because they've undoubtedly been exposed to the newer one first. Mleh -_-
awesome. Definitely has that 80s style music, and especially that 80s anime feel. I just watched the new (2005) intro a few minutes ago. It's not bad per se, but I think they were styling it for newer fans
It might, but it has absolutely no emotion to it. Just listen to the opening song. Sounds...bored to tell the truth. Even the new series ends on a cliffhanger. It didn't get much farther than this series, if you think about it.
Yeah, if the story didn't get furthered at all, I would've quit the series after episode 2 or 3. Though I was thinking, MAYBE they'd finish the story in the anime before the manga. Or at least following the manga like most traditional mangas. That didn't seem to happen....
It definitely had one thing in its favor-- it truly deserved the appellation of 'ultraviolence' more than the new series-- the scene with Guyver I rampaging throughout Chronos Japan while in self-defense mode has more blood and sheer violence in it than half of the entire new series. And for someone who can be somewhat timid normally, Sho (or at least his Guyver), absolutely hands both Elegen and Derzerb their asses when they try to take him on again.
but that's just a OVA without taking the manga's storyline close, it was awesome i know but that's not how they die in reality (still damn awesome) the new series is really good with the story, shows the pressure and horror the main characters have to face knowing a organization is after them and the idea of the zoalords being way more powerful than them. The OVA is something they can sh ow this stuff but the new series is an actual TV anime (they have restrictions)
@BioBoosterSoldier Indeed. By having 26 episodes, the new Guyver results in adding more 'horror' elements but at the same time makes the story less intense with so many breathers in between.
Another thing is that the animation company which produced the new Guyver isn't particularly well known for their action scenes. Also, being an OVA, the old Guyver can retain lots of its bloody violence; an element which defines a large part of Guyver; mutants which take and deal massive amounts of damage.
The new Series may be closer to the original Manga but it was so dry in its presentation. The OVA’s were much more visceral, and the first six OVA episodes where still the best. The new series didn’t seem to have any heart.
@Air0087 All 3 of the animes are better than the live action movies they made over here in the US. And yes there are 3 anime versions. This one, the ova "Guyver: Out of Control", the new version.
Digg me if this was your first anime
