However, graphics are an important part of the gaming industry. It's nothing new. It has always been that way. I don't need games to be extremely innovative and boast the latest graphics engine. I do, however, appreciate an artistic and aesthetical value, beyond just "looking good".

My DS-RPG recomendation in no paricular order:

1. The World Ends With You

2. Dragon Quest IX

3. Knights in the Nightmare

4. Infinite Space

5. Radiant Historia

I would definitely have suggested either pokemon platinum or pokemon soul silver/heart gold over diamond. All 3 are much much better. I also would have suggested final fantasy 4 over ring of fates. Dragon Quest 4, 5, or 6 over Dragon Quest Monsters Joker(Every game in the series after 7 strayed too far away from the series and are pathetic). Would also have put in Chrono Trigger in there. As for the last two... I haven't played them so I couldn't say.

There's so many great DS exclusive rpgs he didn't mention, but I feel these were his favorites and/or included only titles he had played.

I also don't like how the characters fight with pins and cloths and stuff. It just doesn't appeal to me. It's not that I'm a purist that requires swords and spells in RPGs, I just don't like the poppy style. In that vein, I also HATE the music. HATE IT. I've never heard a worse soundtrack., I can't stress that enough. Also, the characters

@mysterymeat3 were boring and stereotypical. Neku was honestly the only one I saw with any development, and all they did was turn him from cool into a pussbag (a la Cloud Strife). Finally, the story was unappealing and predictable; to the point of me guessing the ending after around 4-5 hours of play. Of course, all of this is simply my opinion. If you like it, go ahead and enjoy it. I was just happy to see someone's top DS RPGs that didn't mention that game.

For argument's sake, Devil Survivor is part of the Shin Megami Tensei sub-universe. The premises in Devil Survivor were established long before the Nintendo DS was ever imagined. TWEWY, however, is something completely new to the Square-Enix library and isn't necessarily anything to write home about. It's probably just a little experiment that clearly Square-Enix has no intentions to continue.

@RebornAleph Uhm, the background story to the development of each game is different, but in both you are trapped inside a Japan district, (TWEWY:Shibuya - SMT DS Tokyo), and in both you need to survive using whatever means.

@EXHellfire Being trapped inside a Japanese prefecture isn't anything that unique to the JRPG genre. Mostly all of the Shin Megami Tensei titles do this. Some even take it to extremes, like in Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call, where the world ends, and Tokyo bends around and forms a circular world where people live on the inside of the sphere (inside-out).

Maybe the whole atmosphere of the Tokyo districts are reminiscent, but a lot of JRPGs have that.

@EXHellfire You are, actually, wrong. I have absolutely no idea which was the very first RPG to use Tokyo as a closed world. But counting Square through the ages versus ATLUS, ATLUS did it first, since the very first Shin Megami Tensei, on the Famicom.

Too early? Well. ATLUS did the same with the PlayStation, with Revelations: Persona. By then, all Square did was medieval.

Still too early? PS2 - Devil Summoner. Early? PS2 - Lucifer's Call.

Fact of the matter is, both are great games.

I loved the accuracy and the usage of the touchscreen, I liked how they used the pins and clothes. And I really think that the music fits the game exactly. The development of the characters was huge. I only agree somewhat with the fact that it was quick clear that ...... would probably be the final boss. But the boss battles were just great so it didn't really matter.
