What is your point? Do you realize how arrogant you come across? There is no evidence in your presentation, of genuine sorrow for those who may be deceived, only a kind of haughty self-righteousness. This alone makes your argument suspect.

@wardfenley That scripture is from Psalm 22:1 and is a prophecy of Jesus Christ at the crucifixion, in fact that whole chapter is. Also compare Psalm 22: 6-8 with Matthew 27: 39-43
No, I don't need to see Australia to believe it exists. But you can bet your bottom dollar that in order to believe in things like immorality, the afterlife, demons/angels, virgin birth, re-animation of dead things, miraculous healing, etc-- I DO need to see them. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Made a little mistake in my last comment, I meant to put, *It is sufficient enough*. Anyways, what Christianity as opposed to any other religious faith, is the fact that we have assurance wherein our eternal destiny is concerned, why? because it's all founded on what Christ did for us, not what we can do for ourselves. Simply put, Jesus did it all completely. I hope anyone seeing this message right now will be comforted by it and blessed by it.
cont-- The answer is, is it sufficient enough, in fact, when Christ died, he said the words "It is finished" (John 19:30), so salvation was made complete, based on what Jesus did, not what we can attribute to his work. However if your relying on your own good deeds (trying to be a good person and doing various acts of righteousness etc), rather then the work that Christ already finished on the cross, then yes you have reason to doubt.
cont--Despite what God has done for us through Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross, we do in fact sometimes doubt as to whether or not we are actually saved by it. But that does not mean however that we can't be aware of it, this is why we can rely on scripture to give us that assurance, regardless of how we may feel. If we doubt as to whether or not we are saved by Christs sacrifice for salvation, then the question that should be asked is, do you believe it's sufficient enough?
Ether your hard or hearing, or just completely ignorant of the quote, John isn't saying that the bible gives a lack of assurance of salvation, what John is saying is that even though a Christian may be saved, that they could in fact be unaware of it based on perhaps feelings of left over guilt due to sins that where done in the past or perhaps even in the present, sometimes we can all feel that way at some point

Your point is well taken. Calvin said that the essence of salvation is assurance -- do you believe in the power of the blood of Christ or not. However, I think that MacArthur has some validity to his arguments if you go on to the next level. It 's kind of like we first learn that 2 + 2 = 4. Then we learn that 2 X 2 = 4. The one does not negate the other.
Andrew McBain is a true reprobate. What a complete fool. His condemnation is not sleeping. Like Peter says, he's a stupid beast waiting to be caught and slaughtered.
Wake up! Professing Christians at this edge are not able to accept the truth, the Bible. They will accept 'believe and be saved', salvation without responsibilities, emotion and sensation assumed to be the 'Holy Spirit', giving Biblical guide line on how to be right with God as being judgmental, looking for what they want and not what God's will, music instead of sermon, prosperity instead of simple life, concerts instead of reverence worship, out of order instead of calmness...rejecting Him!
Macarthur denies the blood of Christ as distinct to God.He eliminates any distinction of blood in Christ. He denies the blood is necessary for atonement and that only the death of Christ is effectual. He says the properties of Christ blood are common and have no distinction from any man .
The blood is the evidence of death. Jesus' SUFFERING and DEATH is the means of atonement, not his hemoglobin. And indeed there is nothing different from the blood in Christ's body than was in any other man. You are suggesting some form of blood idolatry.
Dear Lord, for those who do not believe in our Lord Jesus Christ let me polopowers2 and polopowers1 (God let he rest in peace) mention that in the end time Satan the opposer of God and His majesticness will save those who praise Him in all His glory like polopowers1 (my lover) here and we shall ride transluscent steeds through the Heavens while you vile peasants reap the wrath of our vengeful God and let him bring mercy to your soul, In Jesus's name Amen.
You are right Macarthur preaches a new form of righteousness found in what you do.You cannot do anything to be made right but according to Macarthur signs of righteousness are needed. He is always adding special knowledge instead of the simple Word.

He is a mystic? Are you kidding? Sir, Repent plz..If you have something against reformed theology , Calvinist just say it. But don't slander people and lie..Him being a mystic is so far off it isn't funny and I've heard your accusations. Your losing it man. Again , repent sir..

Hi Andrew. Praise God for your understanding of the simplicity and purity of the gospel. John MacArthur leads people into doubt and fear. I've seen the damage first hand. Assurance is fundamental to the gospel. Understanding it gives us freedom to follow the Lord out of love. Tom in CA USA.
"YOU ((( ARE ))) A COMPLETE IDIOT!" u spoke falsely of Sproul, Piper, McArthur - u don't even get along with Calvinists - NOR ANY CHRISTIANS - u're bordering on REPROBATE. From a Calvinist who believes in eternal security. Does slandering God's innocent respectable preachers of his Holy word make u feel satanic?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
macarthur is just another religious flim-flam man whos real purpose is book sales and well stacked collection plates....to do this all ya gotta do is promote hate tell bigger lies than the other con men ....hes preaching a desert dogma from 5000 years ago which he has no logical proof and ofcourse selective morals empty threats of hell-fire mean nothing to anybody with a little sense waken up and look out on the real world
Your god has not had a single success yet. He made perfect angels. He made perfect humans on a perfect earth. He had a perfect son. And ALL of them end up tortured and dead. He ends up with a few thousand buddies to lay around paradise with for ever while ALL the rest are destroyed or tortured for eternity. Has there ever been a bigger loser? Ever? And you are banking that THIS time, this one last time, God is gonna hit the ball out of the park for you? Good luck with that!
Andrew, you said "The evidence is pretty clear that God exists - pretty clear. Doesn't sound like the Scriptures at all."
I'm reminded of Romans 1:20, which says: "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
It says that all things made understand that God exists, and therefore are without excuse.
I decided to know you by your fruits, as Christ said. Are your fruits good? Galatians 5:22 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
I detect no love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, or even self-control in you. Therefore, I see that you are quite possibly false in your assumptions and teachings.
Andrew, by making the false claims of what these men of God are preaching, you are guilty of being a false witness, something that God abhors. I suspect that your attacks on many great men of God is based on sinful pride. Please repent now. God does not take lightly attacks on His men gifted to preach.
Mr Mcbain you repeatedly are unable to even understand what pastors are saying? If you can't even understand the topic of conversation why don't you try to listen and learn. John Macarther is talking about Romans 1. Read it. Romans 1 talks about evidence in nature. Also you don't have a Biblical understanding of "believing". English does not have the greek active verb form of faith so it is translated as believe because that is the closest word we have. it is not mere knowledge. Please repent
I'll tell you who "Andrew c Bain" is, he is a hypercalvinist that came from the guys of "Outside The Camp" leaded by Mark Carpenter, they're all hypercalvinists that have blamed guys like Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon, Edwards, Whitefield, Wesley bros and modern preachers like John Piper, John MacArthur and Paul Washer to be heretic, if that makes you laugh, it does so to me as well...They don't read the bible as face value but strive really hard to put their LOGIC teaching out there... really sad
hello pearljam: instead of criticizing andrew, why dont you try to convince hes wrong. give him proof that god exist, not just pretty clear but physical, evidentual, veriable proof that this sky wizard is really watching over us
Great video. Don't listen to these "lordship salvation" cultists. They are indoctrinated with one point of view and have strayed from the beautiful simplicity of the gospel and good news of Christ. Nobody should doubt their salvation.
The less that men read the Bible, the more they desire that "priests" explain it to them, gently. They trust their salvation to fallen men, which we all are. There is none good, not one, but God. So who are you going to trust, the words of men, or the words of God?
"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
Friend, I listened to this sermon. You're taking Macarthur's statements out of context and in most cases cutting them off before he explains his thoughts. One time put a whole sermon by Macarthur from beginning to end.
I have read most of MacArthur's books and I have all of his commentaries. However, I agree with this man once again the Gospel is simple you either are a saint or you ain't! MacArthur has some excellent insights, however, he makes the Gospel sound confusing when it is not. People need to worship God and not MacArthur.
lol that's funny....Dude...find John's actual sermons...you might learn something that could save your soul from eternal damnation...I know I did and now I live for Christ. I am so glad God put someone like John MacArthur out there to teach Truth
John MacArthur wants to make sure that he's not losing his very profitable job as "middle man". Without his wisdom, nobody can reach the truths of the Bible. MacArthur functions as an interpretor, and remains essential to people's salvation.
Yes, as you bring out in this video, there are charlatans among us. I've long checked MacArthur off as a bad egg, because he is breaking the Glden Rule every day of his life.
you are a liar. read romans chapter 1. you just contradicted the word of God in so many ways and you are lying on the pastor. if he says that anyone can go to heaven then why does the pastor speak on election.
I didn't know that Professor Stephen Hawking had taken up preaching(computer voice)
Andrew, Andrew, Andrew, pleeeeeease stop! You'd be better directing you energies against true heretics rather than the true men of God to contiunually criticise.
John MacArthur believes in a supernatural regeneration. Bain has misrepresented another godly man, making another straw-man argument. Keep it up, Bain; you distance yourself from the Gospel every time. Repent before it is too late. "Examine yourself to see whether you are in the faith."
he is just pointing out that people lack assurance. He does teach assurance of salvation, but he is talking about people who doubt. and why they doubt. For isntance, satan tries to steal joy, condemn, fool and make people doutb.
Contrary to the majority of comments, this man points out the hersey of Macarthur. According to Macarthur no one can truly know their saved. Macuther teaches a confusing Gospel that is far from the true Gospel grace through faith.
mbear98, what you said about MacArthur in this case is not true. I own and have read his book 'SOUNDLY SAVED', that says you can know you are saved. In it he lists 11 tests in the scriptures we can use to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith and know that we are our Lords. People doubt their salvation, in fact that can be a good sign that they are sincere and really want to KNOW the Lord Jesus. MacArthurs' book shares scripture that can help the believer with their assurance.
Contrary to the majority of comments, this man points out the hersey of Macarthur. According to Macarthur no one can truly know their saved. Macuther teaches a confusing Gospel that is far from the true Gospel grace through faith.
you are a complete idiot when it comes to scripture. Macarthur is saying because of sin in our lives and other REASONS sometimes we lack assurance and question our security. Paul said to examine ourselves to make sure we are in the faith.having doubts doesnt mean your not saved, its a natural emotion because we are human and we think that God will throw us out of his family. But through studying the bible we learn and know that Jesus paid the price for our sins. and we are righteous in Gods eyes
Frankly, this one's not as clever as your other traps. You can clearly tell from MacArthur's quote that believers can let their fears get ahold of them. . .despite the facts. MacArthur's agenda is that believers know the Bible more to gain that assurance.
What I get from this video is that YOU and not macarthur are saying that the word of god has failed.
Many people(like some catholics i've met) believe in god but do not have assurance, in their heart, of salvation. That doesn't mean that god's word has failed but that these people have been deprived of the peace that comes from knowing you are saved.
In this video, you confuse MacArthur and Piper with quite a bit of fluidity. Is it possible that you too accustomed to doubting and merely listen for the purpose of critique?
If so, I'd suggest you take care. And before you throw "ernestly contending" verses about, please read this again and consider it.
I believe John Piper is overly emotional (love him anyway... he too is a Calvinist in spite of your treatment),
Joel Osteen is a false teacher, Charles Spurgeon didn't have self control and certainty and knew it (like some of the authors of the New Testament).
One of the fruits of the Spirit is gentleness. I am not saying you have a plank in your eye or even a speck. I'm saying tact is a virture. Read Philemon. And imagine Paul saying,
"Onesimus is a new believer and therefore is going to make mistakes, so punish him for it. And post Youtube videos pointing out his flaws."
The answer to doubt is not to cry "False Prophet" but to say, be not unbelieving. but believing. Maybe you'd correct Paul when he even rejoiced that the gospel was preached by those with improper motives.
Further, when these men you attack are imploring people to move toward the gospel it is with the assumption (and it is a safe one) that God is still regenerating people. I wonder how you would preach to a group of lost.
Paul says we "persuade men" and does not mean after we've spelled out clearly their inability to know God. There is more, but I don't want to labor the point. Seeking, Repentance, Sensus Deitatus, Incomprehensibility, so many issues, so little youtube.
Andrew, You are missing your Helmet of Salvation. Um, which means that you don't have the rest of your clothing on either. Also you are unarmed and exposed. Not only that, you are vulnerable to attack and when it comes it will be fatal. You are anti-Christ. Heck, you might even be THE anti-Christ. You going to Israel anytime soon? They will listen to you..unfortunately.
How come you have some computer voice that you falsy attribute to John MacArthur? YOu are a liar and a fraud, not to mention your incredibly illogical approach to understanding scripture.
Yes, they can because feelings are strong and sometimes people don't "feel" saved! But according to the Word they can "examine themselves to see if they're in the faith."
And that's what believers need to focus on. What God says. Not what we feel!
Andrew Bain, you are like a Jobs' comforter. You take isolated passages from good (God fearing)men (yes, imperfect men)and then deliberatly set about to bring them down through deceit and distortion. Why so? I believe it is to elevate yourself, but know this: God resists the proud and gives Grace to the humble. My advise to you is get right with God and repent of your PRIDE
vichlopet, Your statement is a contradiction of terms. If John MacArthur uses a "corrupt" version of the Bible, how could he be so "solid" as you put it? He uses the NASB, one of the finest translations of the English Bible. Be careful, calling God's Word "corrupt". Unless you're a King James version only advocate. English is a living language. Use the ESV. It's pretty new, but it's good.
Andrew I have commented on your vids before and I still have the same issue with you. You are taking Pastor McArthurs words out of context. We all have doubt about faith issues and that is what Pastor MacArthur is saying. Yes the Gods Truth is a comfort but I am human and I am going to have doubts from time to time.
you have only proved the error of a man. Man is under the authority and understanding of God, not the other way around. If a man got something wrong about God, it does not mean that God is wrong. Why are people so set on disproving God and His word. It's been over 2000 years and nobody has come up with anything legitimate. Also the fact that so many people try to use their smarts in an effort to prove ambiguity about the bible as error is also something the bible talks about in corinthians.
Using those things (things outside the bible/wisdom from God) to better help people to understand God's word is certainly bringing Him glory. It doesn't make His word fallible. Secondly, I am pretty confident in pastor MacArthur, and I understand him to have a greater perspective of theology than you do, but even if he was wrong in what he said (i have not heard that particular message so i can't say) it does not mean that you have proven God and His word fallible,
Well i usually don't post any comments, but i must say, and i mean no disrespect, i have not been to impressed by your words. first of all i did not listen to this entire post but the first bit of it had some really poor logic usage about God's word being fallible. God's word talks about all the wisdom of man and that it came from God (which includes that outside the bible), God also tells us to use all things to his glory (which includes are knowledge/wisdom outside of the bible).
Your right God's word did fail...The Old Testament "Gods word" failed in Saving anyone; God I hope you agree with this! It (Gods word) only shed's light on the need for the Messiah, Jesus. He alone saves; not my faith, not my knowledge and understanding of God's word, not my trust in my intellect or anything else. Jesus alone saves! PERIOD! Your a gnostic and have this profound knowledge (in your own eyes anyway) that alone is yours!!! Good luck with that.
I am not sure why you keep sending me your wonderfully Evil messages. That's what they are. Instead, why don't you show someone who you like that says everything you like? I remember when my son used to pee in his pants when he was little. I regrettably reprimanded him for it. And found out later he did it for attention. Andrew, are you peeing in your spiritual pants? Paul is one of the most powerful preachers I know
The Bible is not fallible...and neither is God. You shouldn't pull out a few sentences of one of John MacArthur's sermons and base all your information on something pulled out of context.
When a person is battling sin he may fail for a perod of time before conquering the sin. during this time he may examine himself and doubt his salvation. The bible tells us to examine ourself to check so we may be brought to repentance. If everyone had divine assurance then why would Paul write ot Christians that they should examine themselves?
I pray you will read the whole Word of God(New Testament especially) in context. and then tell me what you think of Jesus Christ? Who is He? What did He Do? Where is He Now? What are His revealed future plans?
Please tell me exactly what you believe so that I dont misunderstand. For when I respond to your comments I want to best seek to properly exegete the passeges you quote. Coram deo
You are making yourelf look and sound stupid. Macarthur has wrote a book called Charismaric Chaos in which he attacks any mystical approach to salvation. His problem is that he is not mystic enough. If he was mystical he would not believe that spiritual gifts have died out.
Who are you and why should I believe you? John MacArhtur, through God's grace, has faithfully preached the Word of God for decades. Please get some sort of exegetical skills before you start stating an opinion.
This Guy just misquotes and distorts what people say. He is the master of hearing what he wants. He is a deceiver and a liar. I tried to talk to him and he cannot even follow an argument. He twists and contorts the Word of God. Through eisegesis he shows his points. Hes a 1 verse cherry picker...
Hi AJ. Thanks for the question - it's a very important one - How can a man know he is saved? Well, everyone agrees that to know something is true, you need evidence. For example, how do you know Australia exists? I assume you've never been down here. You've never seen it with your own eyes. But would you doubt Australia existing?
Of course not. Many people will tell you "I've been to Australia." and plenty of television stations claim to have images of Australia. You have something like absolute certainty that Australia exists, don't you? And your certainty is based on the claims of fallible men. Now, think about this - you're getting absolute certainty after listening to the claims of men - Men who can lie, be mistaken and miscommunicate.
... ok... Perhaps you're wondering - "What has this got to do with assurance of salvation? Just because I'm often certain about what men say... how does this relate to assurance?" Well - If you are often certain about what fallible men say, won't you always be certain about what an infallible God says? You gain often gain certainty from the men who lie, so why aren't you always certain of what the God who cannot lie, says?
"We receive the testimony of man, but the testimony of God is greater" (1 John 5) You don't need to visit Australia to believe it exists - the testimony of men are enough to assure you of this point. So why isn't the testimony of God that "EVERYONE BELIEVING IS JUSTIFIED" (Acts 13:39) enough for you to be assured of your salvation? Why do you need any other evidence than the promises of God?
Of course I need more evidence than a mental belief. If you don't, you are lost, my friend. James 2:19 "the demons also believe, and shudder." John 8:30 "Many came to believe in Him", v31 "So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him", v44 same people, "you are of your father the devil" Hmm, how is that so? So practicing homosexuals, pedophiles, and drunkards that just believe are justified?
Ask the Lord to search your heart on the issue with Dr. Macarthur. What God has done through Macarthur and his ministry is unmatched in todays church. His heart for preaching the truth is evident, despite the persecution he endures due to his solid biblical preaching. I can personally name at least 10 men who have been influenced by Macarthur and the Lord has used him to grow them in holiness. Christ said if their not against me their for me.
You have obviously built a wall between the intellect, the affections and the will that the Bible never speaks of. You deify the intellect as if the primary issue standing between the sinner and God is the mind, as if our affections or will play no part in the discussion. I guess that means that the Christian simply needs to be properly educated so that he thinks correctly, while his will and affections have no place for God in them.
How about love? How about joy in Christ? How about delight in spiritual things? "Though you have not seen him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory" (1 Pet. 1:9). Can this joy be separated from faith or rather is it a part of faith? Doctrine is meant to effect man's affections.
Ahh yes, I get it. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now love, hope and love -- these two, and the greatest of these is love." Paul just loved tautological sentences, didn't he? Of course not! Paul wrote, "FAITH, hope and love -- these THREE". They are three separate things! Faith is not love.
Two comments: First, I never contended that love was faith. Instead I said that JOY is inseperable from faith. And I would contend that in many ways faith may be described as spiritual delight in Christ. Second, the fact that Paul elevates love to a preeminence over faith gives us a clue that you are missing the boat here. You, my friend, are in danger of becoming a clanging cymbal.

The blood is the evidence of death. Jesus' SUFFERING and DEATH is the means of atonement, not his hemoglobin. And indeed there is nothing different from the blood in Christ's body than was in any other man. You are suggesting some form of blood idolatry.

It says that all things made understand that God exists, and therefore are without excuse.

therefore he's a heretic, saying that the word of God is useless, because His word is the truth.

You appear to know some of the Bible so I have some questions for you to answer for all:
Do you believe the bible and that it is the infallable word of God?
Do you believe that Jesus Christ was fully God, was crucified, died, rose again to pay the debt of sin?
Do you believe that you are saved and saved by God's grace alone?
Does hell exist?

I have read most of MacArthur's books and I have all of his commentaries. However, I agree with this man once again the Gospel is simple you either are a saint or you ain't!
I've long checked MacArthur off as a bad egg, because he is breaking the Glden Rule every day of his life.

mbear98 3 years ago
mbear98, what you said about MacArthur in this case is not true. MacArthurs' book shares scripture that can help the believer with their assurance.

you are a complete idiot when it comes to scripture. But through studying the bible we learn and know that Jesus paid the price for our sins. and we are righteous in Gods eyes

that's fantastic - start a rebuke with "YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT!"
jbooks888 2 years ago
Frankly, this one's not as clever as your other traps. You can clearly tell from MacArthur's quote that believers can let their fears get ahold of them. . .despite the facts. MacArthur's agenda is that believers know the Bible more to gain that assurance.
Oophorectomy 3 years ago
What I get from this video is that YOU and not macarthur are saying that the word of god has failed.
Many people(like some catholics i've met) believe in god but do not have assurance, in their heart, of salvation. That doesn't mean that god's word has failed but that these people have been deprived of the peace that comes from knowing you are saved.

Sir, again, you take sermons out of context. Do you have a bias, are you against men like John Piper, John MacArthur, RC Sproul, and Albert Mohler?
natecook123 3 years ago
Maybe I can give you a challenge. Watching your videos one thing seems quite consistent.
You are willing to critique very freely. They are certain of nothing and should be discarded because of that.
However, your eagerness to point it out may be in fact a branch from the same tree. Lack of certainty and overconfidence are evil cousins.
pacobill5650 3 years ago
In this video, you confuse MacArthur and Piper with quite a bit of fluidity. Is it possible that you too accustomed to doubting and merely listen for the purpose of critique?
If so, I'd suggest you take care. And before you throw "ernestly contending" verses about, please read this again and consider it.
I believe John Piper is overly emotional (love him anyway... he too is a Calvinist in spite of your treatment),
pacobill5650 3 years ago
Joel Osteen is a false teacher, Charles Spurgeon didn't have self control and certainty and knew it (like some of the authors of the New Testament).
One of the fruits of the Spirit is gentleness. I am not saying you have a plank in your eye or even a speck. I'm saying tact is a virture. Read Philemon. And imagine Paul saying,
"Onesimus is a new believer and therefore is going to make mistakes, so punish him for it. And post Youtube videos pointing out his flaws."
pacobill5650 3 years ago
The answer to doubt is not to cry "False Prophet" but to say, be not unbelieving. but believing. Maybe you'd correct Paul when he even rejoiced that the gospel was preached by those with improper motives.
Further, when these men you attack are imploring people to move toward the gospel it is with the assumption (and it is a safe one) that God is still regenerating people. I wonder how you would preach to a group of lost.
pacobill5650 3 years ago
Paul says we "persuade men" and does not mean after we've spelled out clearly their inability to know God. There is more, but I don't want to labor the point. Seeking, Repentance, Sensus Deitatus, Incomprehensibility, so many issues, so little youtube.

vichlopet, Your statement is a contradiction of terms. It's pretty new, but it's good.

you have only proved the error of a man. Man is under the authority and understanding of God, not the other way around. If a man got something wrong about God, it does not mean that God is wrong. Why are people so set on disproving God and His word. It's been over 2000 years and nobody has come up with anything legitimate. Also the fact that so many people try to use their smarts in an effort to prove ambiguity about the bible as error is also something the bible talks about in corinthians.
ajdesau 4 years ago
Using those things (things outside the bible/wisdom from God) to better help people to understand God's word is certainly bringing Him glory. It doesn't make His word fallible. Secondly, I am pretty confident in pastor MacArthur, and I understand him to have a greater perspective of theology than you do, but even if he was wrong in what he said (i have not heard that particular message so i can't say) it does not mean that you have proven God and His word fallible,
ajdesau 4 years ago

When a person is battling sin he may fail for a perod of time before conquering the sin. during this time he may examine himself and doubt his salvation. Tell us Andrew, how is it that we know we have peace with God?
ajrock2000 4 years ago
Hi AJ. Thanks for the question - it's a very important one - How can a man know he is saved? Well, everyone agrees that to know something is true, you need evidence. For example, how do you know Australia exists? I assume you've never been down here. You've never seen it with your own eyes. But would you doubt Australia existing?
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
Of course not. Many people will tell you "I've been to Australia." and plenty of television stations claim to have images of Australia. You have something like absolute certainty that Australia exists, don't you? And your certainty is based on the claims of fallible men. Now, think about this - you're getting absolute certainty after listening to the claims of men - Men who can lie, be mistaken and miscommunicate.
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
"We receive the testimony of man, but the testimony of God is greater" (1 John 5) You don't need to visit Australia to believe it exists - the testimony of men are enough to assure you of this point. So why isn't the testimony of God that "EVERYONE BELIEVING IS JUSTIFIED" (Acts 13:39) enough for you to be assured of your salvation? Why do you need any other evidence than the promises of God?
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
Of course I need more evidence than a mental belief. If you don't, you are lost, my friend. James 2:19 "the demons also believe, and shudder." John 8:30 "Many came to believe in Him", v31 "So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him", v44 same people, "you are of your father the devil" Hmm, how is that so? So practicing homosexuals, pedophiles, and drunkards that just believe are justified?
ajrock2000 4 years ago
Well?

Ask the Lord to search your heart on the issue with Dr. Macarthur. What God has done through Macarthur and his ministry is unmatched in todays church. His heart for preaching the truth is evident, despite the persecution he endures due to his solid biblical preaching. I can personally name at least 10 men who have been influenced by Macarthur and the Lord has used him to grow them in holiness. Christ said if their not against me their for me.
SLIMONE23 4 years ago
You have obviously built a wall between the intellect, the affections and the will that the Bible never speaks of. You deify the intellect as if the primary issue standing between the sinner and God is the mind, as if our affections or will play no part in the discussion. I guess that means that the Christian simply needs to be properly educated so that he thinks correctly, while his will and affections have no place for God in them.
heathac 4 years ago
Does the way we feel affect our "standing with God"? lol.
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
What do you have to feel like in order to be saved? Kind of how you feel after drinking a cup of coffee?
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
How about love? How about joy in Christ? How about delight in spiritual things? "Though you have not seen him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory" (1 Pet. 1:9). Can this joy be separated from faith or rather is it a part of faith? Doctrine is meant to effect man's affections.
heathac 4 years ago
Ahh yes, I get it. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:13, "And now love, hope and love -- these two, and the greatest of these is love." Paul just loved tautological sentences, didn't he? Of course not! Paul wrote, "FAITH, hope and love -- these THREE". They are three separate things! Faith is not love.
AndrewcBain 4 years ago
Two comments: First, I never contended that love was faith. Instead I said that JOY is inseperable from faith. And I would contend that in many ways faith may be described as spiritual delight in Christ. Second, the fact that Paul elevates love to a preeminence over faith gives us a clue that you are missing the boat here. You, my friend, are in danger of becoming a clanging cymbal.
