according to Marky Ramone on his radio show, this is by "No Brain" a side project including him, Lars, and Tim, not Rancid.. but still great upload :D
I cant really say much about what the ramones did for punk cuz i'm 19 years old but in my opinion they seemed to take all the attitude and scratchy style of bands like iggy and the stooges and mc5 and just made it faster and simple. Why i guess people felt it was a more accesible to anyone trying to play music at that time.
if you guys are thinking ramones were the ones who STARTED punk, you're wrong. Punk started really early. I mean even some of the Beatles songs were punk like "Helter Skelter" or "Kick out the Jams" by MC5 or even "My Generation" by the Who. Punk started way earlier than the Ramones but the Ramones really made it a main genre.
being on a major doesn't make you a sellout, the clash never sold out, they never changed, their political views always were the same, they played what they wanted to play, no one told them what to play or do. They are the best band ever to me.
I dont mean to down your favorite band. but they sold out. bands get signed onto major records when they have a big fanbase. when the fans want something els, or a new sound. the record companies make the band change how they sound. Hence the clash.
No... The clash never sold out, of course they were on a major label, they always wanted to make their band the biggest possible but it doesn't make them sellouts, of course they mixed a lot of styles after The Clash (album) a mix of punk, ska, reggae, funk, hip hop, etc... they did want they wanted to do. listen to complete control, it's about the record company and manager trying to take control. the clash had the same views from begining to end. it's just truth.
Actually that's not Rancid. In the mid 90's there was a side-project with Marky Ramone and Mark Neuman (Sheer Terror) called No Brain. That's their only record and can be found on Punk Rock Jukebox compilation.
both clash and the pistols started playing after hearing the ramones so yeah ramones was first of those. can still be debated what was the first "punk" band
dude rancid the fuckin greates band... helped me through horrible times. and hes not Lint anymore thats what he went by in Operation Ivy. His name is Tim FUCKING Armstrong. and Matt Freeman the best fucking bassist ever.
Dont get me rong, i'm not insulting no one. I understand that bands like Rancid help ya treu rough times,, its just that im a huge van of opivy and the ramones.
i'm surprised how faithful it is. they do sheena in a punkrocker on a tribute cd and it sounds nothing like the original. when they do the clash's cheat, that was faithful.

People get confused with the punk attitude and the punk genre. The Ramones Strated the Punk Genre and the punk attitude has been around for ages

There's nothing wrong with making money.
Even the Ramones did work with major record labels.
I'm no expert on the Clash, but I don't consider them sellouts just because they made a lot of money. They had to- it was their JOB.
As long as you don't change your sound for the sake of money, you're not a sellout.
But if I were asked a billion dollars to make change my song, I would sell everyone out in a matter of milliseconds.
