  • Damn.. I'm having a hard time deciding between the maple and the amber..

  • AWESOME!! the drums sound great friend, keep making videos!

JOEDRUMS2112 from USA.

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Quel bon français (en plus d'être un incroyable batteur) ! Pourriez vous envisager de faire une vidéo explicative pour nous apprendre ce solo ?

  • Sounds great man.

Looks like the video is going on fast forward. Lol moving so fast

  • @LaDr0n3 I know, I don't know why it did that. I didn't speed anything up on the video. It just looked like that. I didn't even have the technology to do that at that time. I think it got messed up through YOUTUBE. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 next bonham?ahaha ur amazing!

  • What are all of your cymbals??

  • @Mindfreesoulfull The Bonham Cymbal setup consist of all PAISTE 2002 series cymbals. 24" Ride, 18" Crash, 16" Crash, 15" Sound Edge Hats. Sometime he would use a 18" or 20" Ride. Hope that helps thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • ha! this is probably what Bonzo would look like if he was still around!

  • john bonham only died cause jesus needed drum lessons

  • He's in two places AT ONCE! Talk about an amazing drummer. ;)

  • @centerforce2 Hahaha. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Hi joe, could you tell me what heads are you using?

  • @Juan10902 The heads are the REMO CS Black Dot drums heads on top. The bottoms are clear REMO Ambassadors. The snare is a coated Emperor. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @MegaCoyote1975 Thanks for watching and the nice comments. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • how much was the set and were did you get it?

  • @thetopgamer100 I bought this kit used from a friend of mine. He sold it to me for $1700 with hard shell cases. The usually price for the kit is about $3000. If you want cymbals with it, your looking at $5000 total with stands, cymbals and drums. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • @MustacheCowboy Thanks for watching and subscribing. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • Make me feel better and please tell me this isn't the first try

    haha you did great

  • @kinterkid251 Thanks, actually it only took about 3 tries for each instrument. It took me about a day and a half to put the video together with editing it and all. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • You did Bonzo an incredible honor with this track. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm using your clip in my Physics class as an example of constructive interference..

  • @wattdanielj Well thanks for thinking of me, I really am flattered. What does constructive interference mean for Physics class? : ) I never had Physics before, so you can teach me a thing or two. Hahaha. JOEDRUMS2112

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 Constructive interference is the interaction of two or more sound waves, in your case, overlaying the different drums and percussion, in order to make a louder sound.. Each drum, conga, timbale, etc., combines to make one helluva groove.. and you thought you couldn't learn physics LOL

    later - Dan

  • @wattdanielj Wow, cool!!! thanks for the lesson. You are never too old to learn something new. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • this is amazing

  • fantastic drumming and musicality!!! this has turned me onto doing my own version based off the original. your cymbals sound special. can you list them for me?

  • @UpisDown11 Hey thanks for the nice comments. The cymbals are all PAISTE 2002 series. Hi-hats 15" Sound Edge, Crashes 16", 18", 20", Ride Cymbal 24". Thanks again JOEDRUMS2112

  • hey joe did you play tenors by any chance... watching you play the timbales made me think about how the tenor players play on my shcools drumline haha

  • @bonhaminspired No I never did, just snare drum, but how I got better with my single strokes was just playing rudiments. I tell my students the most important rudiment that you can work on is the single stroke roll. It's almost 80% of what we do as drummers. So get out those rudiments and practice practice practice. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS2112

  • the soun of your bass drum is....wwrrooooommm!!!! (canion sound)

  • very good !! ... congratulations form argentina ;)

  • Mr. JOEDRUMS, you defintely did Bonzo justice with this vid... me likes, thanks! Rock On bro!

  • Impressive!!

  • I was about to say nice try Sherlock, but you fooled me! Sweet!!!

  • 33PETERPAUL I love this Joe,great job,I really love how you added in the other parts and blended it all together.Just fantastic Thanks for making great videos.

  • SO SHINY.

  • Not bad,not bad at all,nice job..

  • Dang! i only caught a few timing errors and both were just a 16th off from the multi tracking not cause of you. Pro studio would have just fixed it. You keep time like a Rolex. Rock like a clock. Great Job.

  • Great job, Joe!

  • Well aren't you creative.. I like this cover.. Nicely done!!!

  • sweeet man keep it up

  • Great!!!

  • Hey Joe you did a Bang-up job arranging all that! You should Make up a 55Gal drum set w/Reggaeis, load em up in a van and head out for the nearest abandoned freight warehouse, push record and LET IT RIP! your dead on with it man Bonzo would love it!

My brother played this on 55Gal storage drums w/varius contents in them (on the floor) and got it close. Your Dead-on Man. Great VID!

  • Nice work mate... with a bit bigger of a room and some more natural reverb it would have been spot on :) You should see if they'll let you into Hedley Grange for an afternoon :)

  • @kevfulchester That would definitely be a dream come true. To be able to record my drums at Hedley Grange. I would probably do the song (When The Levee Breaks). Hahaha. Huge Huge Sound. The best. Yea man!!!

    JOEDRUMS

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 How cool would that be!!!!! It's unreal to think that Bonzos drums sounds were pretty much "au naturel" hey... no effects laid on after, just him smashing the crap out of them in a HUGE room :D

  • Yes, it's brilliant!

  • is that his brother on bongo's? cousin on kettle drum

  • AWESOME

  • wow man, great job, ive been playing drums for about 2 years now and i love it, keep rockin!

  • Now THAT's what a bass drum should sound like! Great work!

  • im a huge ZEP fan and this very similar to what i would see as a modern version P.S

goin to steal some for my next high school solo ............simply Beautiful

  • I like how you perfectly substituted the steel drum for the other drum

  • @mjsalzman Hey thanks for watching and the nice comment. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 what kind of kick mic do you use?

  • @franklinwagner I am using the SHURE Beta 52A on my bass. I put it right in the center of the front bass drum head to record. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • @JOEDRUMS2112 thats awesome man i have the same one i got the mic pack with the three 57s included

  • Very very good...you are good drummer

  • @joaopauloabreu88 Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin'

    JOEDRUMS

  • Excellent version of the Montreux!!! Great tribute to Bonzo too, man. I was wondering, are you self-taught or did you take any classes?

    Greetings from Costa Rica!

  • @Blackfist2106 I took lessons for many years for the drum set, but the percussion was just something I picked up on growing up. I love all drum styles and I always love to learning how to play different types of drums. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin'

    JOEDRUMS

  • Hey there Joddrums! WONDERFUL modernized rendition of the Montreux! Also love your love the look of your reissue kit that your playing for it. I enjoy the cymbals you use for this particular track since they sound so much like the original track. But I wonder if maybe Ziljans' Alchemy series might brighten things up more on the high hat and deepen the crashes some? What is your opinion on this? Thanks so much for the great drumming, keep it up! =)

  • @aulidur I love Zildjian cymbals as well. I think the Alchemy series is a definite winner in my book. I think their sound is brilliant and the tone is phenomenal. I was thinking about getting a cymbal or two myself sometime down the road. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin'

    JOEDRUMS

  • Great Ideas there, would have been good with a guest drummer too....To keep the main pulse super tight.....Fair play if you drumming along to the original, or looped sections?

    great!

  • sweet skin bashing :)

  • are you from new york i think i seen you at the sam ash but i might be wrong

  • @filmskate14 I was in New York a couple of years ago. I was at Sam Ash with a buddy I met on YOUTUBE, we were looking at some drum stuff. He flew me out to New York and put me up at the Crown Plaza Hotel and paid for me to set up and tune his Ludwig Vistalite John Bonham Reissue kit. New York is an awesome place to be. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • nice cover

  • Very well done man! Love it

  • Nice job man.....always wanted to see this performed live..........

  • JOEDRUMS2112,

Very nice job on the multi-tracks and drumming skills. I'm a 40-something Bonzo fan, drummer and Ludwig collector as well. So, I very much appreciate the nostalgia and enjoy watching drummers cover Zeppelin.

I'm not trying to hijack your page so do not post the following.....You can check out a solo of mine here on youtube. Type in : Ode to John Bonzo Bonham. I'm in a band called Painkiller Down. You'll be able to find us covering Zep's; Black Dog as well.

  • catchy beat;) I was wondering, what is the size of your bass drum? sounds and looks like a 24" (sounds really majestic in a way, hehe) and your hi-hats sound awesome (not many hats I dig the sound of, so that's sort of a great compliment;P). I'm a concert-band drummer mainly, and that type of hats give a LOT of room to work. Fits into every style I can think of. So my then big question is: what kind are they? keep rockin' yourself! -Raggy

  • @MrRaggy91 Well thanks for the nice compliments. The beat is catchy because a really famous drummer (John Bonham) from the band, Led Zeppelin originally came up with this beat. It's from a song called Bonzo's Montreux, I was just being creative with it. The bass drum is actually a 26"x14" Ludwig Vistalite Reissue Kit. It's the same one John Bonham used with Led Zeppelin in 75-77.

He was recapturing the sound from the Big Band era. The Hi-hats are 15" PAISTE 2002 Sound Edge series. JOEDRUMS

  • bravo ......cool

  • This is what I'm talking about.

  • that was amazing

how long did it take you to put all of this together

  • @xXxphakiexXx Hey thanks for the nice comment on the video. I got it done in one day. I had to record the drum parts individually, then while I was recording the audio parts, I was recording each video part. Then I had to switch back and forth each of the videos to sync them up to the audio, to make it look like I was playing all the parts at the same time. Thanks for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • sweet!

  • sweet!

  • your drum kit sounds absolutly AMAZING!!!

  • @ilikepickles47 Thanks very much. I appreciate it a lot. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • I REEAAAAAAAALLY miss all your old zeppelin videos.. all i can do is watch this again, and again.. and again...

  • @juanpyz08 Don't forget you can see the old videos on VIMEO.com under the name JOEDRUMS... If you want to purchase them on DVD, I have them as well. Thanks for the nice comments and for watching. Keep Rockin' JOEDRUMS

  • Excuse me while I clean the white stuff of my screen..... I loved it. I was in marching band way back when and we wrote a version of it for our intro cadence. Good to know there are still true musicians with all the school cut backs.

  • Great playing and great kit!!

  • Joe...one suggestion that will really help your bass drum sound. Stop burying the beater into the head. Bonham played off the head...pulling the tone out of the drum by impacting the head then quickly pulling away to allow the tone to ring full without the pitch and decay being affected by the beater pushing against the head. It really makes a huge difference and will get you alot closer to the sound you are looking for from a Bonhamesque kit. Good luck.

  • great feel, love the grove and ghost notes. top stuff, thanks. Brian UK

  • Hey Joe last two months have made a big difference the fluidity is back, love to play along with "Ophelia" by The Band, Elton's Honky Cat, Al Green and of course our Led friends. Style is Bonham with Stanton Moore's New Orleans roughage thrown in. Gotta say these Paiste Sigs just sing, they make the Armand Z's sound dull. The Phil Rudd set still amazing for sound and quality. Thanks again for the excellent inspiration, listening to those big Ludwigs got me hooked again.

  • @dunndirtcheap I am glad you are liking those Sig. Paiste's. They definitley are a great sounding cymbal. Thanks for the nice comments. Keep Rockin'

  • Really lovely rendition of Bonzo's Montreaux. I thoroughly enjoyed it both as an artist (professional photographer) and as a Led Zeppelin fan from the very beginning.

  • @PhotosByAsher Hey thanks for the nice comment. I really appreciate it. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my vids. Keep Rockin'

  • Hey Joe that was sweet. Just thought you might want to check out some of my Zep remakes. You remind me of me, except your doing it on drums and I'm doing it on guitar. Keep on rockin' ..... sounds great.

  • Hey Joe that was pretty sweet. I got some Zeppelin songs that I played to myself on guitar with backing tracks I made. You remind me of me but you are doing your thing on drums and I'm doing it on guitar. Rock on... I enjoyed it.

  • Darn it Joe. You just had to get that kit. I hated it when it first came out (Buying my first kit). Don't know if I have mellowed or just have a more refined ear, but man it sounds good. Think I'm gonna have to see if I can find one (reissue).

    Thanks Joe and keep groovin"

  • I have finally decided to try this classic, not fairing too well to all :( Watching this video has given me some help. BTW, Did you ever try the foot-work on when the levee breaks? Thanks!!!

  • Hey Joe picked up a stereo that can actually drown out my set - amazing how much is coming back with each sitdown. Picking up some Blues Traveller and Dave Matthews to get my groove back. Saw a local Allman/Tucker tribute band the dude had an OLD Leedy set (we are near Cleveland) stunning volume and rich fat tone.

  • @dunndirtcheap

Hey something you might want to check out is the Vic Firth Headphones. They are what you call Noise Canceling Phones. They have a lot of foam that goes around the ears that block out they volume of your kit a lot, so you can play along with your music at a comfortable volume and still hear your kit and the music at the same time.

    Keep Rockin'

    JOEDRUMS

  • Hey Joe, glad to see you are spreading your passion for the drums. Keep drumming!

  • Ok Joe today was my first day on my new Phil Rudd sig set, had a blast need to get my feet squared away the hands are actually just fine. Thank God for Aquarian studio rings! Did not want the sig snare picked up the Sonor 3007 13" x 7.5" in maple much more versatile. This set is LOUD! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm you helped bring me back to drumming. Thankyou Joe!

  • @dunndirtcheap

Dude that's sweet. I would love to hear your kit. I love Phil Rudd. Thanks for sharing your story. I am glad to help. Keep on Rockin'

    JOEDRUMS

  • Great job as always.

  • Glad to see this back .I truly missed it .Thanks Buddy!!!!!!!!!!

  • those notes you do with your left hand starting at 2:27... awesome! people ask why i work on ghost notes and stuff that generally goes unnoticed and unappreciated... i do it for me. personal satisfaction. i loved the whole thing. the timbales were definitely my favourite.

  • OK Joe. I have a set of Armand Z's, 2 Paiste sig crashes(16, 18), a 19" Sabian china and a 13" AA El sabor crash. Once our plant shutdown is done will pick up the cans to go with them. Starting up again after 30 years all your fault!

  • @dunndirtcheap

They are 16th note triplets. I just love when Bonham does those. They always sound great. Thanks for watching.

    JOEDRUMS

  • lovable fills at 0:34!!! I've got to learn this fills: this are sixteen triplets right?

    ... y ... y ... y ... y

  • that was awesome. you learn all this by ear?

  • Yea, but most of it was created by me. I just took the main riff from Bonzo's Montreux from the CODA Album. The rest I just improvised. Thanks for watching.

    JOEDRUMS

  • You effin ROCK Joe! Thank you for sharing your many talents with all of us. Very inspirational. Cool as hell.

  • ill trade you my drum set for that drum set lol

  • AWESOME! Tuned and played EXACT! Love that sound Joe!

  • your a great drummer dude. you deserve more views

  • WOw. Loved this.

    Which snare do you use?

  • @TheSumOfX

The Snare Drum in the video is the Ludwig 402 Supraphonic Chrome 14" Snare Drum. It's the same one Bonham used in Zeppelin. It has a Emperor Coated head on the top and a clear Ambassador on the bottom. Thanks for watching.

  • Awesome. Forwarding this video to a bunch of my friends, truly one of your best yet

  • Indeed Joedrums, Bonham was the best, he is my idol on the drums, and I like to drum to Misty Mountain Hop, wish I could post up a vid but I can't fig out a way how...besides I only have been drummin for a year

  • SPECTACULAR! I do not have words to express what is perceived on having listened to a song as this one and touched of the way in which you do it (the adrenaline is rising up to the saucers of the end). I am grateful to you that you have returned to rise. REGARDS AND THANKS!

  • SO glad we all have this video back on Youtube :D Thanks Joe.

  • is it just me or is it at the start where you do the fill on the snare and the toms the 18 tom sounds higher then the 16 tom ?

  • I really don't hear the 18" tom higher than the 16". They are tuned close but the 18" is definitely lower to my ears.

    JOEDRUMS

  • dave lombardo is doing this i think ..

  • Great job as always Joe. I love the sound of those drums.

Nice shirt too, I'm wearing the same one in my newest video haha

    - Corey

  • COOL i love it great bass sound. wait......0 weiws???!?!
