  • What a nice smart fellow!

  • One of the indisputably most beautiful male spesimens in history. Will always be an enigma because he beats the crap out of the theory that suggests low self image as a factor toward one becoming gay. Any inferiority this guy might have felt as child was surely negated as jaws dropped over and over when he walked into a room. Unvelievable.

  • Goodness the lip biting...I just... can't.. my goodness. I get it Anthony.

  • Hot....and a sweet man...

  • Yes, of course he was gay. Read his book where he details all this. What a handsome man. WOW!

  • Yes, he definetly looks gay ! Too bad if the girls didn't notice.

  • Strange it seems like when they are too cute, they loose interest in girls, too easy game ?

    Was he gay ?

  • wow!!! he is hot and gay!!! :D

  • My grandmother went to school with him for a short time. She said the girls used to literally follow him around in groups all day. They also banned him from doing school plays after the first one he was in. The girls would get to rowdy(for the times anyway) when he was on the stage. She also says as unbelievable as it may sound the camera doesn't do him justice.

  • One thing that always frustrated me with the mystery guest portions would be when they would get a "no" and John Daly would say "1 down 9 to go" and the panelists would start complaining that they couldn't hear the guest's answer. Obviously, it was a "no" answer or he wouldn't be flipping the cards.

  • He is an excellent actor, I am sorry that he didn't make more movies.

  • It's too bad Tab Hunter has had no children - if he doesn't want to get married, he might become a semen donor

  • The name Tab was already used in show business. Tab Hunter was masculine and handsome. Brad Pitt was pretty and they used a body double for "Troy"; for some of the body shots. Tab had the muscular frame and the masculine aura.

  • Can you upload the entire episode? I would love to see the entire husband/wife panel! thanks :)

  • Damn! He's freaking hot!!!

  • Today is Monday, July 11, 2011----Happy 80th Birthday Arthur Andrew Kelm---better known to many as the great Tab Hunter!!!!

Thinking of you on your special day with this wonderful and humorous appearance on the famed "What's My Line" panel/gameshow. Even at 80, some may want to see you in a "torn shirt"!! Happy birthday.

  • I am glad that he "came out"!

  • Man alive, he is gorgeous!

  • @heula1 agreed!

  • Wow, Dorothy couldn't take her eyes off him at the end. If only she knew...

  • Amazing... one thing has not changed in 50 years.... women swoon over gay guys...

but they marry real men... and then complain their husbands aren't sensitive enough...

    go figure

  • What a dream boat!

  • So adorable. I'm reading his autobiography at the moment and am completely in love/lust with him.

  • At school they were all in love with him, Great Tab Hunter!Love this game!

  • What a cutie pie.. I get him Pat Boone and Troy Donahue confused though.

  • When Tab and Debbie were young film stars they had a more or less permanent Saturday night date when both were in L.A. They were friends, not a romantic couple, but they probably had the nicest dates in the film community because they were totally on the same wave length (as was Debbie with Carleton Carpenter). Tab was brighter, more talented and more multitalented than the world knew then. The world knows now.

  • Brad is not gay....unless he says so..lol

  • Tab finally came out as gay. Brad went back into the closet.

  • Arlene is so damn good at this game!

  • Panelist: "Do you appeal to the ladies?"

Tab: "Yes, but the ladies don't appeal to me. I'm a homo."

You KNOW that's what he was thinking.

  • Oh dear, Tab Hunter swallowed Gollum.

  • @jaspar38 rofl!

  • so was he supposed to be the brad pitt of the 50s? lol

  • @berezin99 losey terminolgy

  • @berezin99 Must you be so crude?

  • Just saw "They Came to Cordura" and I have to say he held his own in what was a cast full of acting pros. By the way, try not to miss that film, it's a great one. It's amazing that people like John Ford get free passes for what is all too often mindless western dreck, when here's an underrated "thinking man's gem" no one ever talks about. Hey, it's got Gary Cooper too! See it!

  • omg Dick Kollmar! a complete husbands-wives panel!!I'd love to see the intro :P

(and Dorothy looks stunning in this clip btw :D)

  • How did she guess, lol?

  • Tab had the hit version of 'Young Love' back in the late fifties. His singing was, er, shall we say, adequate.

  • Oh God, he was gorgeous........

  • Are you the torn shirt type? HaHa

  • The comment about orientation is a very valid one. Many stars who weren't "out" publically were often paired with a young leading star at appearances to quell any rumors; for instance, Mr. Hunter was often seen with Natalie Wood at premieres and what not. He didn't discuss much about his personal life until later on, particularly when his autobiography was released several years ago.

  • what is not understood is you did not discuss this subject in the 50s with anyone not even your gay partner no one did, the first time phil Donahue did this topic in the early 70s every one was sheilded in the dark and voices were altered...

  • I'd actually compare Tab to more of an Ashton Kutcher/Jared Leto type than a Brad Pitt. Young and handsome, and well-built, hence all of the "torn shirt" comments from Arlene and Dorothy. He was certainly one of the young male heartthrobs of the day.

  • The panel is made up of two married couples :)

  • @derfla1977 very rare occurence

  • who is gay Tab or Kollmar? Both?

  • both :D

  • WHAT A HUNK!!!!!!

  • Tab. Rock. Troy. Rip.

Names invented probably by the same agent.

    Hollywood driven stardom.

Tab was cool in Damn Yankees. And funny co-starring with Divine--and I'm not referring to Andy v

  • "Do you especially appeal to women?" Tab Hunter is gay,

  • we all know he's gay. who cares?

  • Damn Yankees was a favorite of mine as a child- not only because of Lola...(wow) But also ... I was amazed to watch a man become younger in his deal with the devil...a concept of fantasy which was vividly produced thru the Hollywood Magic...As a child I believed it too ...

  • What is the song he sang that sold 2 million?

  • young love

  • you guys know Tab is gay right?

  • so what? he's gorgeous!

  • Comment removed

  • I've loved him ever since I saw him in Susan Slade.

  • Brad Pitt can't hold a candle up to Tab Hunter.

  • @londonlass100 Amen, thank god he was gay!

  • Brad Pitt's got nothing on Tab!

  • @rexthebarker at least they are both gay

  • Anybody who has actually HEARD any of Tab Hunter's recordings would debate his affirmative answer to being a singer.

  • Oh my....What a big, strapping handsome hunk of horse flesh. Quite a gentleman, I might add.

  • Talk about a one-trick pony with a short shelf life. Okay, he help make Damn Yankees a success.

And it was very ironic- asking if he appeals strictly to the women.

  • Well, he was a heartthrob for women.

  • most gay men are..:)

  • ". . .asking if he appeals strictly to the women."

The operative word was "especially," not "strictly."

  • He was so handsome and had such a cute smile. :)

  • GSN rebroadcast this eighth anniversary program on 21 October 2008. Along with the unusual husband and wife duo of Mr and Mrs Martin Gabel and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kollmar, the show featured the commander of the US Army Women Corp, a human cannonball, a woman who packed chewing tobacco and Tab Hunter. Those producers had a sixth sense about packaging interesting groups of people.

  • soulierinvestments, thanks for telling me about this eppisode! It was interesting to see the two couples on WML.

Pardon my ignorance, but who on earth is Tab Hunter? And what the heck were Dorothy and Arlene going on about ripped shirts for? haha.. I presume he was a hero type.. today's Arnold Schwartzneger?

  • Tab Hunter, such a gentleman. And funny!

  • Tab Hunter was educated at a Military Academy and thus had developed a polished style and manners. Also his family were well behaved professional people. Nice guy type and kinda innocent in those days.

  • now that's a squared jawed face :P

  • Thanks for posting. I agree with the other comments on the unusual pairing of 2 married couples as panelists. While Arlene & Martin Gabel were often on the show together, he was the credited with the most "guest panelist" visits to WML. Pairing them with Mr & Mrs. Kollmar was a rare site. By chance do you have either the opening or closing parts of this show, it would be interesting to hear either the introductions or the good nights. Thanks again.
  • GSN rebroadcast this episode on 21 October 2008. Arlene introduced her husband as a theatrical producer; Dorothy introduced her husband as a theatrical producer and co-host with her of the morning radio show "Breakfast with Dorothy and Dick."

  • I was just going to ask the exact same thing! Love to see the opening and closing with the two couples. I presume one of their only appearances all together like this?!

  • Ever hear so many pear-shaped tones on one stage? Thanx for posting this unusual collection of 2 sets of husband-and-wife panelists. Stage actor-producer Martin Gabel and his stage & TV star helpmeet Arlene Francis. In a rare TV appearance, the hosts of radio's long running (1945-1963) early morning chat show "Breakfast with Dorothy [Kilgallen] and Dick [Kollmar]." Think Regis and Kathy Lee with more sophistication. Oh my! -- Tab Hunter in his early luscious period, well worth gazing at.
