Wow, I got to be honest. I never knew that David was a moderate Republican until I saw some of these comments. He has always been so level headed and fair. I always trust his opinions to be non partisan
Gergen is an honest conservative. His demeanor reminds me of a time in our country when Republicans didn't use hate and fear to win elections. Bush, Karl Rove, Hannity and Limbaugh have done tremendous disservice to the conservative movement. The first payback was two years ago. This election was the second. Expect a third in 2 years if they keep trying to use the same tactics
I agree. Conservative/republicans have used these tactics for 20-25 years. I begin gradually during the Reagan era. Code words like socialist, "the one", arrogant, "we really just don't know Obama," radical, extreme liberal, he is man that does not share our values, pro-America, red-blooded America. John McCain ran away from his maverick image because he was afraid he was going lose his extreme right base. If he ran as a true maverick he could have had 20 percent of Democrats vote for him
Gergen is one of no more than a dozen televsion political commentators whose insight is highly intelligent and remarkably unbiased. Others on the short list include Mark Shields, David Brooks, Jeffrey Toobin, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. I never tire of Gergen's assessments of political events such as debates and conventions. No one at Fox News can hold a candle to Gergen.
The HOMAGE you are OWED?? It's that misplaced sense of entitlement that poisons every narcissist, every dictator, every despotic control-freak, the human race has been subjected to...Get over yourself and get educated about what is really going on. It doesn't matter who "wins" this "election" as the agenda will be fulfilled regardless.
Yes - Gergen is one "conservative" that I admire enormously. NEVER takes the side of the right when it is wrong. Thoughtful, clear thinking, and totally himself.
I agree. One of the few of these guys who i will listen to. His views are so respected that he served under 4 presidents (3 republicans and a democrat).
Arguing Obama is outside the mainstream is hardly racist. There is nothing in the least bit racist about saying "my opponent is not main stream in his opinions or associations," and that is clearly all McCain had done. Bush, Kerry, and Gore all made similar arguments about their opponents, though Obama's personal associations make it an easier case to make.
One may disagree with McCain's arguments, but to call them racist is absurd.
Did you hear the one about McCain and his wife? He was on the campaign trail with her during his first race for the U.S. Senate in 1992, with a nearby microphone, unbeknownst to him, turned on. Cindy ran her hand over top of her husband's hair and said: "You're getting a little thin up there." His response: "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt."
Papalongstuff: Wow, you really are angry, & you never answered my question. The ad asking if Obama was "the One" was not a hidden code to some in the south to denote "uppity". The ad is in response to Obama's comment that people in small towns "...cling to religion...". "The One" is referring to a passage in the Book of Matthew where John the Baptist asked, "is He (Jesus) The One, or should we look for another?". This ad was simply to play off Obama's messianic persona & his comment.
You characterise me as angry..huh! Naah I just called you out, hence the reversion to the tried and tested 'you are angry' response. I'm not gonna dignify that. Just answer the question, whwre in the South are you from? And how is it that you seem to be unable the racial connotations behind the word uppity if. as you say, you come from the South?
Papa...: I am from N.C., born and raised. And yes, you are angry. I never said, as you state, that there is no racial connotations to the word "uppity". I said there is no hidden code implied by saying, "The One". Gergen said ""The one" is code for uppity". I want to know where he got his info and how he arrived at that conclusion. That ad is referring back to the words of John the Baptist. Gergen failed to recognize that and chose instead to inflame the public.
'And yes, you are angry.' And here we hace yet another patronising mindreader...what do you do for your day job? Better not let that one go..it takes a lot more than patronising posters to jerk my chain, as if..bwahahaha! Now, get down from your high horse and recognise that which is being said is interpreted as something offensive. If, as you say it isn't, then where,s the retraction and explanation? Why do you mindreaders always jump the gun?
Every thing Gergen said is spot on I'm from Atlanta, Ga born and raised area code 770.
The truth is their is a code, while not official it's an undeniable prescence in the south, "Kill em' with a smile" "Charm those you hate" be polite but keep those not like you seperate. whether it's buzz words like 'Uppity' 'You al'right boy' 'I'm not a racist' 'What you doing here' 'Doesn't he/she speaks well' etc...
What a ridiculous accusation! If there is a "secret code" in the south, I never knew about it. And I was born and raised here. If you believe what he has said, then sadly, you believe all stereotypical comments and cannot rationalize for yourself. That's code for "you're a dumbass!"
You, sir are in denial..as a resident of the South, I'm well aware of the signals sent..if you don't see them, you're either blind or lying...c'mon..who'dya think you're kidding..?
Enlighten the rest of us. Tell us of this "code" that only you and Gergen are able to decipher. You're a "resident" of the south. Were you born here? If not, then I must conclude you've bought the lie. Give us some examples of this "code" only southerners know. And if there is a code language for southerners, why is McCain using it??? He is not southern; how did he learn the code but not my family, friends, neighbors, and fellow southerners? Please Papalongstuff, "edjekate us dum southern folk".
'Enlighten the rest of us' Speak for yourself and get off your soapbox.
It's not only me and Gergen, as he himself says in the interview. If you think it is your denial runs deep..get help..And as for your "edjekate us dum southern folk" quit with the pity-seeking bullshit, if you don't know, you really need to get out more and nobody I know in Atlanta speaks goes with that self deprecating crap..it's so passe.
If you don't know by now, buddy.."you better ask somebody"..I can't help you
In fact, I 'd go so far as to ask are YOU from the South..I doubt it VERY much if as you say are unaware of the racial connotations of such speech..I'm calling YOU out, buddy..so far all I can see is someone who is full of shit and playing games with themselves..but fooling no one...
Democrats are so out of touch witth mainstream america. That is why they have only elected 2 presidents in the last 40 yrs. One was Carter who was a disaster and the other got impeached. Great track record. Now you nominate an unqualified anti american muslim. Keep up the good work
First prove to me he muslim, i know his name sounds it but he not , second he american cos he worked for people and he worked in the USA and staying in the USA
He was raised as Muslim in Africa. In his formative years that is why for poltical purposes he became a Christian and then chose a radical anti american church to go to. Saying the exact same things they say in the muslim mosques. He is for the people the same way the peoples republic of china is. Is that what you want in America? A anti American socialist pig?
I guess the american people are right wing nuts, the so called noble conservatives have kept on putting this country in debt, and those conservatives keep on talking about how patriotic they are, if they were then they would do the honest thing in power instead of making washington wallstreet.
Your nuts my friend bradcdm your information is wrong the idea is so wrong, first all of that a lie made up so to scare people into voting john mccain your just racist to muslins and black people
If he wasnt black he would be pumping gas somewhere this punk is the most unamerican presidental candidate we have ever had and that is really saying something since you fucks last nominated Kerry who was a traitor
oh you mean kerry the war hero? you mean how he was a traitor because when he came back he spoke out against an unjustified war that involved war crimes? you must be comparing him to good old bushy who got everything in life from his daddy including the presidency, joined the national gaurd so he didnt go to vietnam, then didnt even turn up to the national gaurd. oh and he is borderline retarded. just like you perhaps?
If he wasn't black? He's unamerican? Asshat what have you ever done in your entire life that was selfless, couragous, important, an act of kindness to others not like yourself?
What is unamerican I'm black served in Iraq, liberal, I love my country yet will speak out on its flaws, protest is the greatest form of Patriotism, giving of yourself to your nation either in the military or civil service.
I am not running for president of the USA I am not qualified to be president and niether is obama that is my point. He got involved with "civil service" for political reasons that is why he hung out with the radical left that hates America to court the radical left to get nominated. He had that piece of shit rev wright as his spiritual advisor. Go fuck yourself and all the anti American crowd, Bye the way thanks for defending our country in Iraq.
Nah, I'll make sweet love to my lovely wife and hopefully have more kids (I'm hoping for a boy) I think you should stay to your routine of self fucking.
Gergen is right. I think that a leader should be "above the fray," not "below the radar." However, as bad as this campaign has sunk on both sides, either of these guys are a step up from the current president.
nokia, you're an idiot! I bet your dad was your uncle. you are a racist piece of shit. motherfuckers like you are the reason birth control pills was invented!
John McSame said "Barrack Obama's" name is proof that he is not a true American. Ok, so I guess he is calling MILLIONS of african-americans, and MILLIONS of Spanish people unamerican? McBush, suck my dik, I HAVE A SPANISH NAME, AND I AM A TRUE AMERICAN! BUT YOU SIT THERE AND CALL ME UNAMERICAN! FUK U OLD BITCH I HOPE U GET PROSTATE CANCER AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I HOPE U DIE!
you should really read up on your politics before you automaticly belive garbage and vote for barrack obama even though hes most definately a saint, no the next jesus
fuck you
people like you shouldnt be allowed to reproduce.
now before you get the Idea that Im racist in your very dull VERY limited mind of yours, know this,
I dont hate people because their ethnicity, I just plain hate ignorant retards who should be shot before they are ever granted the right to vote in my country
oh yeah, that's american. thought it was our country, not your's. at least thet's what i thought when i enlisted and paid over six figs worth o taxes in my life. better hope i never find out who you are punk ass bitch!@!
I like it how democrats call republicans racist, yet the republicans never talk about his race, except when they are accusing him of playing the race card. Democrats ned to stop talking about race altogether and maybe some relevant political debate will start happening.
No politician or political party with half a brain would openly claim a racist agenda (peace to Strom Thurmond), but that doesn't mean a large section of their constituents don't have a problem with black people. I'll concede that Democrats, including Obama, take the black vote for granted as Republicans allege.
your really stuck on this vid are'nt you? daddy or someone really got you brainwashed you stupid mindless bitch. take your asperations for a facist police state and shove um up your dry ass un fucked cunt!
While those asshats sit around and discuss imaginary subliminal racist attacks by McCain's camp against Obama. Obama BLATANTLY attacks conservatives as racists.
"We know what kind of campaign they are going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid. They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young. He's inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And, did I mention he's black." - Barack Obama Jacksonville, Fl. June 20 2008
David Gergen is a proud member of Bohemian Grove but he does run around naked? Search You Tube or Google for "Alex Jones asks David Gergen about Bohemian Grove Rituals"
Obama is outside the mainstream. He belonged to a racist church for 20 years. His mentor and pastor is a bigot. Not a surprise that Michelle would say that she has never been proud of America. She sat in Wright's pew for 20 years.
The National Journal named him the most liberal senator in 2007.
Aw jeeeze. Obama is a good man. If you dont want to vote for him, I am sure you can find plenty of reasons not to. But don't demonize him. Just as I wouldnt stand for someone claiming McCain is in the KKK, I cannot stand to hear the rubbish being said of Obama.
Obama has come from an entirely different place than you and I. That his church should be angry & at times racist should be no surprise to any of us. Are you old enough to remember Jim Crow laws?
Really?! The MOST liberal senator?! THANK GOD! Consider that the LAST liberal in the white house was able to get rid of the deficit of the last "fiscal conservative" and put us in a position of CREATING ten thousand jobs a month instead of LOSING fifty thousand jobs a month like Bush. :) WOOOOO! I'm rather happy now :) Oh by the by, ever hear of Hagee? The man McCain SOUGHT OUT? The man McCain WANTED as part of his campaign? ouch.
gergen participates in the bohemian grove cult gatherings. they import young males and wear footie pajamas. gergen when confonted looked very upset like he was busted for something God awful. he needs to face trial for his crimes. i can't look at his face without grossing out.
Over all I find it quite amusing that the Liberals are the ones who swear, curse, use dirty filthy language to express themselves. Obviously a product of our fine Liberal run educational system! Give them more money to show us how to defecate and urine on a cross and call it art and have it paid for with my tax payer money! I'm so mad I could just spit!
fuck you and your god. your no differant than a muslim extremist with your mindless brainwash. religion is the root of all evil and always will be. try thinking and not believing everything you been taught since before you could think idiot!
No, the people who misuse religion are the ones who are evil. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Religion isn't evil people who practice it wrong are evil. Atheism is brainwash born and bread by false religion. You say you don't believe in god, but your god is just science and unproven theories. I know you will curse back at me, but I don't care
Religion is false religion. There may indeed be a God, but if there is, He/She/It/They are a whole lot bigger than a comic book superhero that walks on water & brings dead people back to life. The fact is, we know NOTHING about God. He will always be a mystery. That is the way it has been & will always remain. Which, of course, makes all religions fraudulent. Futhermore, religions serve to divide as can be seen everywhere today.
i'm not gonna curse back greg. that was a very mature and professional response. i just wish people could focus on real issues without injecting religion into the conversation. i disagree atheism is brainwash hwever, i was indoctrinated into christianity at a very young age and educated myself and learned to think rationally and use common since. live and let live is what i say, but when others beliefs begin to feel forced on me, which seems to be the case more and more, i gotta call bullshit.
I'm an Independent and I hope Obama wins. I'm tired of stupid people running the White House. Jesus Christ! George Bush was a "C" student and McCain was at the bottom of his class! I guess McCain was a "D" student. Time to get someone who made "A's"!
Liberal, eh? Haha, you must not have a job or a brain. Easily manipulated too. Maybe if you woke up and paid attention to the real issues and didn't let the Liberal media lie to you then you'd know who to vote for.
Come November, rank and file Republicans aren't going to come out for McCain and the haters that he is courting with his racist ads will simply blow off stopping at the polls on their way home from work.
Obama voters are going to show up by the bus load and bury Grandpa and the GOP once and for all!
Yes and probably be bused to several precincts so they can do their american duty over and over and over again. Talk about vote fraud, just look at Chicago and Daly's record.
"What a bunch of garbage, Liberal, Democratic, Conservative, Republican, it's all there to control you, two sides of the same coin! Two management teams, bidding for control of the CEO job of Slavery Incorporated!" Alex Jones
It doesn't amtter anyway this ELCTION IS RIGGED. We live in a counrty that a CRIMINAL like Carl Rove can ignore congressnal demands. The power elete own this country... dDo you actually believe they are gonna let Obama become president? Of course it's racist and classist and WRONG but they get away with it huh.
I once picked up a nice little book entitled "Votescam". The cover was highly critcal of janet Reno so I thought I would see what the other side thought. But actually, it turned out to be an indictment of the voting machines & also PREDICTED THE 2000 DEBACLE in great detail including the Florida battlegroung, all before it happened!
Yes, Republicans are in control of the voting machines & can & do as they wish. Our democracy has ended & you are correct. . . McCain will be the next prez.
Hmmm, a book written after the election? Did the book say anything about how Gore tried to steal it and how it was he who used lawyers first? How he chose which counties to count or not?
Did the book say anything about the real USSC 7-2 vote that mattered concerning the law, not just 5-4 personal opinions?
The fact is, Gore blew it and was rejected because of himself and Clinton.
PAY ATTENTION, Zile. The book was written BEFORE the election. Let me repeat for the hard of reading. . . it was written BEFORE the election! All the shit about Gore doing this or Gore doing that is IRRELEVANT. You DO know what irrelevant means, don't you. if not, LOOK IT UP!!!
It says on the internet that the book was originally written in 1992, during the time Bush 1 was losing the election to Clinton, I guess. I wonder what prompted it? There has been voter scam with dead people voting in Chicago, and all sorts of funny stuff over the years, It's interesting to see who's been cheating in the past with all sorts of these types of games, busing, dead people voting etc.
The dead people voting is largely a smoke screen. I am sure it has happened. It probably has happened often. yet the votes stolen this way are trifling compared to voting machines that can do as they wish.
But to steal an election, it has to be close. Otherwise it becomes too obvious.
finally a white commentator is honest. these messages are below the radar but still carry a racial poison. mccain lost my vote long time ago. he cant control his temper.
The Republicans are masters at manipulating public opinion. They know just how to tap into the racism of voters, just as they know how to use Christian right wing wackos for their benefit. The republican elite care about nothing but power & are all too happy to use bible thumpers to get more power.
I totally disagree with Mr. Gergen's comment about everyone in the south getting it about the Charleton Heston part of the ad. It's not about putting him in his place as a black man. It's about the Media and everyone treating him as the Messiah or a God. For pete's sake, the man has done NOTHING to merit being the President of the FREE World. EMPTY SUIT!
And what has McCain done. . . sit in a prison cell?
Either one of these guys (McCain or Obama) will do a better job than the village idiot that, no doubt, you voted for. Do us all a favor this time. . . stay home! You don't possess the requisite skills to make an informed choice.
Excuse me but McCain runs circles around Obama in "What have you done for the country." He's served the country not only in Vietnam, but in the legislature for how many years now, certainly more than one term Obama!
I haven't seen another 9/11 here on our soil since then so apparently Bush has done something right!
It's interesting that you claim Bush is an idiot. What was Gore's educational grades? Or Kerry's? Neither very stellar in fact as I recall!
If it's just for the sake of change it serves no purpose. More taxes, cut and run, more social programs. It's doesn't sound like Obama is running on change, but more of the same broken down failed ideas the Dems have had for the past 60 years! Obviously you are too young to understand true informed choice so I suggest you stay home and bake cookies along with Mrs. Clinton!
You are going to get more taxes whether McCain is in there or Obama. The next president will HAVE to raise taxes, because of the "Bush Tax deferrals". You cannot borrow 10 1/2 TRILLION dollars & expect not to pay it back. Your children & your childrens children will be paying your uncollected taxes.
If that were not bad enough, this admin. has shown total lack of leadership. Who didnt see this banking mess coming? It didnt take a crystal ball to see.
We will see about the tax issue. Growing the economy is always better to take care of the deficit than raising taxes. Taxes put a kabosh on economic growth and as reported in the media today the tightness of the economy which is hurting the wealthy is "trinkling" down to the middle class and poor class as well(Reaganomics). Funny that the Media refuses to acknowledge that the same thing happens when you cut taxes on the wealthy. It too trinkles down and benefits the middle and poor!
Broken down ideas? Like regulating business so consumers are safe? Like regulaing the food supply so we are safe? Like protecting the air & water? Like seeing to it that old people are not indigent? Like protecting free speech, freedom of the press & liberty?
Bush makes Clinton look like a Rhodes scholar. Oh wait. . . he is a Rhodes scholar! What is Bush? An incompetant boob that has surrounded himself with crooks & liars.
Maybe your idea of "informed choice" is listening to Hannity & Rush
Actually, regulating business is not just a Dem idea, neither is Food regulation, protecting air and water, or all the other items you mentioned. The Dems do not have an exclusive on all the good things just as the Repubs do not have responsibility for all the bad. Or all you so blinded by hate that you can't see the good in both parties?
I'm talking specifically about raising taxes, putting more money into a failing educational system without revising it, and starting national health care.
Yet it has been the Republicans that have lead the charge to minimalize regulation. Railroad deregulation alone has cost hundreds of lives.
Here is a good book that I am certain you will never read, because it does not regurgitate your views . . . "Free Lunch". If your so inclined, you may read up on how the wealthy in America "trickle down".
It's more like "trickling down the old pants leg".
Bush is, hands down, the most incompetant president this country has ever had. He will be imortilized for his incompetance & for surrounding himself with thieves.
Cheney still owns 433,333 options in Halliburton, a company that was awarded no bid contracts at his bequest & for which the stock has risen 700% over five years. How exactly, is that not war profiteering & immoral?
I might also add that Halliburton does business with Iran, in violation of US law. They use a "subsidiery". SHEESH
Oh come on! You are claiming Mr. Carter to be brilliant? I lived through his era. The dollar sunk to all time lows. All the world laughed at the US, not just the liberal media, and we couldn't even get back our own people from our embassy in Iran. Talk about incompetance!!!
I never said a word about Carter. Yet, he is largely a historical victim of the banking industry, which has shown itself to be repeatedly ignorant. In the 70's, they sought big profits lending to 3rd world countries. When they lost big, they reverted to financing oil deals. They lost again. Small business could hardly get a loan during that time, regardless of credit history. That choked american business to a standstill. Carter could have shown more leadership in all areas. Not unlike Bush.
I was referring to the most incompetent President ever, Mr. Carter. He was a joke! But I guess we needed a true joke to appreciate Reagan and the true visionary leadership he provided. History will actually show that Bush kept America safe and he showed true leadership in the face of extreme odds.
He's never had the media on his side, with the except of talk radio and fox news, from the get go. Just realize that everyone makes mistakes and learns as they go at times. Do be so pessimistic!
if we would have adopted cartes energy plan, we would be energy independant. instead, your master mr. reagan took the solar panels off the white house and said fuck you middle class. you are a mindless fuck. quit watchin tv and do some real research. or maybe you just like that cock in your ass.
Now there's an intelligent response. Were both your parents Sailors. What a mouth and utter useless waste of matter between the ears! Don't bother responding as nothing you will say is worth reading! Stay Home uninformed, ignorant, bigoted jerk!
Free Lunch - hmmm must be written by a nationalistic, socialistic, communistic liberal democrat who wants to give everything to the collective, but pay for it from my pocket, not his own.
I'll look it up! Just remember that just because something is in print, doesn't mean it's true. My father in law once said, it's on tv it must be true! I'll check my own facts!
Kerry's and Gores "grades" are entirely irrelevant to whether Bush is an idiot or not, which he has so clearly demonstrated through his policies & his lack of leadership.
The fact that terrorists have not attacked us in no way demonstrates competance. . . they have been known to wait many years before striking.
As for McCain, his service in the legislature has been less than stellar. Certainly, he has demonstrated no leadership on energy. Even today, his emphasis is still on drilling.
They're irrevelant when you want them to be. Bush is called dumb, ignorant, stupid etc., For the record he is none of those. These words are used by ignorant people who don't agree with his ideas and can't intellectually argue their way out of a paper bag so they name call.
They have tried to attack us and how many attacks have been thwarted? Do you know for sure? Quit trying to tell us that you are smarter than the CIA and FBI and other intelligent agencies.
Bush is called those things because he is. He has virtually bankrupted this country.
Perhaps the most sinister thing he has done is censor scientific reports for political purposes. Dr. Hansen of NASA is but one example. What could be more evil than changing the information that millions of Americans & billions around the world rely upon for safety? That alone is an impeachable offense.
You are morally and intellectually bankrupt! He is none of those things! Given the bad economy he inherited (the recession), 9/11, the war, until only recently did the economy begin to slow and look at the dow compared to when he took over. It's actually over 500 points to what it was then and that's with the tremendous dip it took because of 9/11 all the way down to 8,397 in Oct. 2002. So I wouldn't say the country has been bankrupted. Debt is erased by budgets and increased revenues.
500 points in eight years! WHOOfucking hoo! And that is after repeated drops in the discount rate, followed by tax cuts. . . whoops. . . I mean TAX DEFERRALS, a
& cash give aways! All of this & his poor leadership has resulted in a dollar that has tanked. . . in real terms lower than even under Carter.
10 1/2 TRILLION in debt wont be erased anytime soon by either budgets, or a robust economy. In fact, this debt is a drag on the economy & cheats Americans of their savings. Bush has been a LIE
Boy, you are very naive. The dollar is still 10 times stronger it ever was during Carter. You must be a gen xer. Too young to know better! Actually the dow has tanked since the Dem's took over congress in 2006 and the gas has spiked from $2.50 to over $4.14 since Pelosi and Reid took power. They have more power over the economy then the President. They past laws. The President signs them or vetos them and they override him if possible. What about Congress's approval less than the President
wow, you are a stupid fuck! you should quit listnin to dumb ass daddy or you preacher, or who ever keeps you brainwashed and try and learn the truth. for your grandkid's future. you ignorant, unamerican piece of shit! live in fear and take it in the ass like a good sheep idiot boy!
Ajusted for inflation, the dollar today is far weaker than even under Carter. And to blame this economy on the Democratic takeover would be funny if not so sad.
Congresses approval should be bad. They have done a horrible job of oversite under all recent administrations.
Pelosi & Reid are wonks. We should fire all wonks whether Republican or Democrat.
In relationship to the world's currencies, the dollar was weaker then as I lived in Europe and experienced the Mark going from 4 per dollar to about 2.37 per dollar. Purchasing power almost cut in half during Carter. That is not so today in relationship to when Bush took over.
Dow was up to 12,500 when Dem took power in 2007 and gas was $2.50 and it's climbed over $4.00. Only when we started saber rattling about drilling offshore and other places, anwar etc. has it come down.
Oh NO! Some conservative principles are fine: small government & low taxes. Yet other ideas need be reviewed upon their merits.
This administration has overseen the greatest expansion of government ever. Bush totally blew it on 9/11. And then, when his "intelligence services" needed shaking up, he instead created yet another huge bungling bureaucracy. Today, the FBI, CIA & Homeland Security still do not share information. Yet the taxpayer is paying for all three.
In my estimation neither candidate is qualified to run for President of the United States. Much less actually BE the POTUS.
While I find McCain very distasteful, the choice is clear for me. Nobama.
Obama is the most underqualified candidate for President in my not inconsiderable lifetime.
He brings race into the equation at a time when we have big problems and race should not be an issue here. There are many black people much better qualified than Obama that I would vote for over McCain.
Obama is famous because of the historical nature of his nomination. For the most part that is how the message was sent. Obama Black and Clintion Women = historical significance.
So to say that Obama is Famous (Obama Black = Historical Significance), and that is the only reason people like him. He is empty correct that is what the ad wants us to believe an empty politician out to do us white people harm.So he is empty because he is famous (Obama Black = Historical significance
Sure you bring up some of the minor issues that BHO takes both sides of. But, the important one - IRAQ - at least on that issue he has remained consistent with his character. He is still pushing to withdraw all US troops in 180 days.
He will, upon being elected, tell the generals their new mission is to get the US out in 180 days.
But, by 180 days, he really means there is no time table. It is just a figure of speach.
We have some very important issues to face in this country. Race is not one of them right now.
Obama drags racial issues into this campaign as part of HIS baggage. Black supremacist Reverend Wright. Defensive remarks about race when there were no racial offensive remarks.
Who are you to determine the importance of an issue to our country? If you personally do not have to deal with racial issues, it has very little personal importance to you.
Obama has repeatedly tried to not make race into an issue in teh campaign. In almost every presidential camapign since the the 1970s, Republicans have used race as a wedge issue.
When McCain accused Obama of playing the race card, it was ironically the ultimate play of the race card.
How would making race an issue help Obama? He as most Democratic nominees for president has an overwhelming amount of black votes.
Most Americans agree with Obama and the Democrats on major policy issues, so it would behoove Obama to concentarate on policy and not race. Focusing on race would cause a backlash from whites. Your misguided, uninformed comments are a good example of this.
There is a reason why Obama is the first viable black candidate, and it isn't because there aren't any good enough black people out there to be president, it is obvious that there is racism left in america, otherwise we would have had a black president a long time ago. Jesse Jackson was the closest and he could only win South Carolina.
Gergen "lost it" a long time ago. He doesn't speak for anyone who can think for themselves.
I am not a McCain supporter, but I know John McCain and he will not use race as an issue in this presidential campaign. He has come out against other efforts to bring race into the race.
McCain also said that he would not carry out a negative campaign. But what has he done over the last week? He has released negative ads. The track record for McCain sticking to his word is not very good. It is not a coincidence that McCain charged Obama with playing the race card in the same week when he released negative ads and planned to go on the offensive when Obama has made similar comments in teh past with no response from McCain.
Newsflash...Consertvatives think ALL Leftists are arrogant elitists. Obama is no different. Isn't funny that the only people bringing up race in this campaign are Democrats?
Newsflash Conservatives won't talk about the race card because they are playing it. Was that so hard to figure out? Hey at least I saved you a headache! Also Conservatives think? U mean the people who voted for Bush & believe that Fox News is really news? LOL, yeah okay.
Yes, but at least Obama didnt "flip flop" and then decide to kiss the asses of the Christian right wing wackos like Pat Robertson & that insipid "focus on the family" jackass. I liked McCain until then. Now I see him for what he really is. . . just another Bush stooge, of which there are plenty.
Gergen is actually quite conservative if you've ever watched or listened to him, but in his favor, he at least gets this. I grew up in Texas and what he says is an absolute fact that no one from the south even questions.

Expect a third in 2 years if they keep trying to use the same tactics
kirbygene 3 years ago 7

Gergen is absurd.
FAHayek89 3 years ago
David Gergen is a good man, always taking the moral and high road. Even if its not in his interest as a moderate republican.

That is not a joke, though, it actually happened.

This ad was simply to play off Obama's messianic persona & his comment.
ndmock 3 years ago
You characterise me as angry..huh! Naah I just called you out, hence the reversion to the tried and tested 'you are angry' response. I'm not gonna dignify that. Just answer the question, whwre in the South are you from? And how is it that you seem to be unable the racial connotations behind the word uppity if. as you say, you come from the South?
BUSTED?
papalongstuff 3 years ago
Papa...: I am from N.C., born and raised. And yes, you are angry. I never said, as you state, that there is no racial connotations to the word "uppity". I said there is no hidden code implied by saying, "The One". Gergen said ""The one" is code for uppity". I want to know where he got his info and how he arrived at that conclusion. That ad is referring back to the words of John the Baptist. Gergen failed to recognize that and chose instead to inflame the public.

Atheism is brainwash born and bread by false religion. You say you don't believe in god, but your god is just science and unproven theories. I know you will curse back at me, but I don't care
greg2009 3 years ago
Religion is false religion. There may indeed be a God, but if there is, He/She/It/They are a whole lot bigger than a comic book superhero that walks on water & brings dead people back to life. The fact is, we know NOTHING about God. He will always be a mystery. That is the way it has been & will always remain. Which, of course, makes all religions fraudulent. Futhermore, religions serve to divide as can be seen everywhere today.
gumpydoood 3 years ago
i'm not gonna curse back greg. that was a very mature and professional response. i just wish people could focus on real issues without injecting religion into the conversation. i disagree atheism is brainwash hwever, i was indoctrinated into christianity at a very young age and educated myself and learned to think rationally and use common since. live and let live is what i say, but when others beliefs begin to feel forced on me, which seems to be the case more and more, i gotta call bullshit.

-Among voters aged 18-29, Obama lost 16 percent and McCain gained 20.
-Among women, McCain gained 10 percentage points. Obama now leads 43-38;
-Among independents, Obama lost an 11 point lead. They're now tied;
-Among Democrats, Obama's support dropped from 83 percent to 74 percent;
-Among Catholics, Obama lost the 11 point lead he had in July and now trails McCain by 15.

gumpydoood,
Hmmm, a book written after the election? Did the book say anything about how Gore tried to steal it and how it was he who used lawyers first? How he chose which counties to count or not?
Did the book say anything about the real USSC 7-2 vote that mattered concerning the law, not just 5-4 personal opinions?
The fact is, Gore blew it and was rejected because of himself and Clinton.
Thank God too!
Zile77 3 years ago
PAY ATTENTION, Zile. The book was written BEFORE the election. Let me repeat for the hard of reading. . . it was written BEFORE the election! All the shit about Gore doing this or Gore doing that is IRRELEVANT. You DO know what irrelevant means, don't you. if not, LOOK IT UP!!!
gumpydoood 3 years ago
It says on the internet that the book was originally written in 1992, during the time Bush 1 was losing the election to Clinton, I guess. I wonder what prompted it? There has been voter scam with dead people voting in Chicago, and all sorts of funny stuff over the years, It's interesting to see who's been cheating in the past with all sorts of these types of games, busing, dead people voting etc.
ideasmaster 3 years ago
The dead people voting is largely a smoke screen. I am sure it has happened. It probably has happened often. yet the votes stolen this way are trifling compared to voting machines that can do as they wish.
But to steal an election, it has to be close. Otherwise it becomes too obvious.

Maybe your idea of "informed choice" is listening to Hannity & Rush
gumpydoood 3 years ago
Actually, regulating business is not just a Dem idea, neither is Food regulation, protecting air and water, or all the other items you mentioned. The Dems do not have an exclusive on all the good things just as the Repubs do not have responsibility for all the bad. Or all you so blinded by hate that you can't see the good in both parties?
I'm talking specifically about raising taxes, putting more money into a failing educational system without revising it, and starting national health care.
ideasmaster 3 years ago
Yet it has been the Republicans that have lead the charge to minimalize regulation. Railroad deregulation alone has cost hundreds of lives.
Here is a good book that I am certain you will never read, because it does not regurgitate your views . . . "Free Lunch". If your so inclined, you may read up on how the wealthy in America "trickle down".
It's more like "trickling down the old pants leg".
gumpydoood 3 years ago
Bush is, hands down, the most incompetant president this country has ever had. He will be imortilized for his incompetance & for surrounding himself with thieves.
Cheney still owns 433,333 options in Halliburton, a company that was awarded no bid contracts at his bequest & for which the stock has risen 700% over five years. How exactly, is that not war profiteering & immoral?
I might also add that Halliburton does business with Iran, in violation of US law. They use a "subsidiery". SHEESH
gumpydoood 3 years ago
Oh come on! You are claiming Mr. Carter to be brilliant? I lived through his era. The dollar sunk to all time lows. All the world laughed at the US, not just the liberal media, and we couldn't even get back our own people from our embassy in Iran. Talk about incompetance!!!
ideasmaster 3 years ago
I never said a word about Carter. Yet, he is largely a historical victim of the banking industry, which has shown itself to be repeatedly ignorant. In the 70's, they sought big profits lending to 3rd world countries. When they lost big, they reverted to financing oil deals. They lost again. Small business could hardly get a loan during that time, regardless of credit history. That choked american business to a standstill. Carter could have shown more leadership in all areas. Not unlike Bush.
gumpydoood 3 years ago
I was referring to the most incompetent President ever, Mr. Carter. He was a joke! But I guess we needed a true joke to appreciate Reagan and the true visionary leadership he provided. History will actually show that Bush kept America safe and he showed true leadership in the face of extreme odds.
He's never had the media on his side, with the except of talk radio and fox news, from the get go. Just realize that everyone makes mistakes and learns as they go at times. Do be so pessimistic!

Even today, his emphasis is still on drilling.
gumpydoood 3 years ago

That alone is an impeachable offense.
gumpydoood 3 years ago
You are morally and intellectually bankrupt! He is none of those things! Given the bad economy he inherited (the recession), 9/11, the war, until only recently did the economy begin to slow and look at the dow compared to when he took over. It's actually over 500 points to what it was then and that's with the tremendous dip it took because of 9/11 all the way down to 8,397 in Oct. 2002. So I wouldn't say the country has been bankrupted. Debt is erased by budgets and increased revenues.
ideasmaster 3 years ago
500 points in eight years! WHOOfucking hoo! And that is after repeated drops in the discount rate, followed by tax cuts. . . whoops. . . I mean TAX DEFERRALS, a
& cash give aways! All of this & his poor leadership has resulted in a dollar that has tanked. . . in real terms lower than even under Carter.
10 1/2 TRILLION in debt wont be erased anytime soon by either budgets, or a robust economy. In fact, this debt is a drag on the economy & cheats Americans of their savings. Bush has been a LIE
gumpydoood 3 years ago
Boy, you are very naive. The dollar is still 10 times stronger it ever was during Carter. You must be a gen xer. Too young to know better! Actually the dow has tanked since the Dem's took over congress in 2006 and the gas has spiked from $2.50 to over $4.14 since Pelosi and Reid took power. They have more power over the economy then the President. They past laws. The President signs them or vetos them and they override him if possible. What about Congress's approval less than the President
ideasmaster 3 years ago
wow, you are a stupid fuck! you should quit listnin to dumb ass daddy or you preacher, or who ever keeps you brainwashed and try and learn the truth. for your grandkid's future. you ignorant, unamerican piece of shit! live in fear and take it in the ass like a good sheep idiot boy!

ideasmaster 3 years ago
Ajusted for inflation, the dollar today is far weaker than even under Carter. And to blame this economy on the Democratic takeover would be funny if not so sad.
Congresses approval should be bad. They have done a horrible job of oversite under all recent administrations.
Pelosi & Reid are wonks. We should fire all wonks whether Republican or Democrat.
gumpydoood 3 years ago 2
In relationship to the world's currencies, the dollar was weaker then as I lived in Europe and experienced the Mark going from 4 per dollar to about 2.37 per dollar. Purchasing power almost cut in half during Carter. That is not so today in relationship to when Bush took over.
Dow was up to 12,500 when Dem took power in 2007 and gas was $2.50 and it's climbed over $4.00. Only when we started saber rattling about drilling offshore and other places, anwar etc. has it come down.
ideasmaster 3 years ago
You're right! Pelosi and Reid should go along with all the Rhino's. Conservative principles are what's needed whether Dems or Repub or independents
ideasmaster 3 years ago
Consumate incompetance!

TAMARLANE 3 years ago
Who are you to determine the importance of an issue to our country? If you personally do not have to deal with racial issues, it has very little personal importance to you.
Obama has repeatedly tried to not make race into an issue in teh campaign. In almost every presidential camapign since the the 1970s, Republicans have used race as a wedge issue.
When McCain accused Obama of playing the race card, it was ironically the ultimate play of the race card.
jipoku 3 years ago
If BHO is trying to not make race an issue, why is he the only one bringing it up?
Is he trying to gain the "white guilt" vote?
But, perhaps like all other issues, BHO will change his position on this too.
dancerdog3 3 years ago

PuzzleBox83 3 years ago
Gergen "lost it" a long time ago. He doesn't speak for anyone who can think for themselves.
I am not a McCain supporter, but I know John McCain and he will not use race as an issue in this presidential campaign. He has come out against other efforts to bring race into the race.
TAMARLANE 3 years ago
McCain also said that he would not carry out a negative campaign. But what has he done over the last week? He has released negative ads. The track record for McCain sticking to his word is not very good. It is not a coincidence that McCain charged Obama with playing the race card in the same week when he released negative ads and planned to go on the offensive when Obama has made similar comments in teh past with no response from McCain.
jipoku 3 years ago
Newsflash...Consertvatives think ALL Leftists are arrogant elitists. Obama is no different. Isn't funny that the only people bringing up race in this campaign are Democrats?
