Im tired of the attitude cops tend to have. Its cops, then people. Separate. I guess they deal with thugs and scum most days and eventually begin to hold contempt for the populace in general. They dont seem to understand that no, as you drive through a neighborhood crime is not around every corner. This happened in Denver, but here in Colorado Springs regular people tend to help the cops on a regular basis, even assisting in arrests. Cops have got to give up their superiority complex.

Don't cops have to have a legitimate reason to stop and detain people? I was running an errand for an elderly neighbor of mine when two cops stopped me on the sidewalk for no reason. They peered inside my grocery bag and took out a 32oz bottle of beer. Even though the bottle was clearly full and capped, they opened it to make sure that I wasn't drinking in public. It was total bullshit. I wasn't intoxicated or anything. Just walking down the street.

The moment that the police initiates this "Terry" stop the individual is under police custody. You do not have right to interfere with the traffic stop due to the inherent dangers involved with pulling someone over. This is called "Obstruction of a Police Officer", and is a federal law.

If you read the actual report of what happened and in this case the guy walking his dog first told the driver that he saw everything and then started yelling at the cops that they are liars while they were trying to do their job. He then started to tell the driver to leave and then the cops asked him to stop. He refused.

Obstructing a peace officer would have required that Ashford be "using or threatening to use violence, force, physical interference, or an obstacle..." Ive read some other articles before where the constitutional law allows for police openly interpret "obstacle" or "physical interference". It doesn't mean that the guy has to physically put his hands on a cop but if an officer was arresting someone for example and you snuck up behind him and looked over his shoulder he has the right to interpret that as a threat. People should know better.
