cool cuz im sanding down my 90 dx sedan and i want the bumpers painted and earl scheib said they would match the stock paint and spray it for $300 if i do the prep work thanks
@MrRubberDuckClan ive tried to test with 50/50 and it ran like water (maybe pressure too high?) but i just shot a car using 80-20 for 2 coats and it was like a mirror.
@YoungStatic so would u recomend 80-20 and just do 2 coats? and if u dont mind watch my vid of my walkaround for my ef and do you think i should bother fixing it or just scrap it because the rockerpanels are pretty fucked up
Hey man, how many coats do you usually do, and how long in between? I'm gonna do my friends AE86 gloss black so I wanna do it right. Also do you have to refill your paint cup, or is it enough for the whole car? size of cup? Thanks!!
Dude, you do not understand how much i respect you and your work on these cars, you turn some pretty crappy looking cars into some sick racing beasts!
@YoungStatic My point is...unless you wanna paint the hood in a cross pattern to the sides..you're gonna have to reach over that post you just painted..IMHO..bad strategy.
@trunk516 not really, maybe with another color but sinc white is a nuetral color after 2 -3 coats its white and if he went over it you wouldnt be able to tell the difference
@modeindustries When you paint a car you never want to reach over an already painted area..especially since he isn't even wearing a sterile paint suit. You run the risk of the front of your shirt or even the air hose contacting an already painted surface. In this video..he will either have to paint the trunk area by reaching over the rear painted fender..( bad idea ) or paint it from the rear of the car which would mean he will have to go crossways instead of forward to back.
@trunk516 but surely you mean a 4000 professional job, not a 50$ at home job with inexperienced painters, your right those pre-cautionary steps should have been taken before hand, but what more could you expect from a backyard job. id still say they did hell of a job
@modeindustries Doesn't have to be a $4000 professional job to take a few minutes and plan your spray pattern. I've painted many a car in the yard/shed/etc...all this guy had to do was paint the trunk BEFORE he backs his way to the rear fender..no extra work involved and you eliminate the chance of smearing what appears to be a fairly nice paint job.Rule of thumb is ..paint the highest. furhtest pieces first and then work your way back and down, while trying to keep a wet edge.
@trunk516 you seem to know a shit load about painting.. hmm perfect.. i need to ask you somthing go look at my videos i wanna spray paint my car black like gloss black but in a can kinda thingg just for fun i have multiple cars but if i took the needed steps as in sand wet sand buff all that do you think it could come out decent if i do it by can btw im doing a nuetral color/
@modeindustries One of my first paint jobs was an old S-10 that was a faded blue.I sanded the rust put a rust sealer on that and then I sanded the whole thing with green scotch brites. washed it and then painted it with Rustoleum black in rattle cans. I let it sit about 3 days..it was summer and it dried well.. Then I took 1000 grit sandpaper and wet sanded the whole thing. It came out a kinda satiny black. Was gonna clear it but I like the Mad Max look it had. Use a 1/2 overlap.
@bbarannik yea. my wagon was painted there and their masking was horrible. i complained and they said " what did you expect paying that much" lol dude was about to get put to sleep by my brother ..
did mine with tractor paint (similar type of paint)... really any industrial paint will work. My friend used the same stuff the city uses on telephone poles... good job... wear a mask bra
how much paint did you use for the whole car? i'm about to do the same thing with the same color to my car. i bought 2 pints of semi gloss white and 1 pint of mineral spirits... you think that's enough to paint a whole car? its about the same size as the one in the video. you didn't use primer so i assume i don't need it either? i also have a can of bondo.
with this paint you can put it over anything. all my cars i painted was scuffed and primed in areas that was repaired. layers of paint is not good either. if you ARE able to sand down to primer, that'd be best.
@YoungStatic hey buddy quik question, i have a problem like if its to thick it dries bumpy , if its to thin it runs down the door, now what im wondering is how much do you thin it out and does the primering of the car matter in terms of the paint clinging to the surface, i wish i could paint it like youre doing it looks so easy and so perfect to.
sprayers? ive done 2 cars with bottom feed cans. one came out kinda dull and the second was super glossy..it really depends on the mixture and how it comes out..
i'm going to paint my civic's rear quarter panel, any tips on how to get the paint smooth? do you sand then polish the paint? or is it already smooth when it goes on?
the paint varies on how it comes out. the prep, the weather, the mix the technique..if you arent doing any prep..use gray scuff pad with water and it should be ready to shoot. if there are clear coat peels, scuff with red pads til its gone and wetsand 400grits. ive never used polish on after my finishes..it comes out already glossy.
hey, here in canada can't find any mineral spirits got any other suggestions that I can use? I think varsol should do the same? I will probably be rolling it on, im only doing my hatch not the whole car though.
do you have any tips on bondo? everytime i try it, im putting it on and taking off around 70% because it didnt go on smooth and there were air bubbles. Anyways, i just thought since you mostly deal with the older ef sedans you'd know a thing or two on bondo.
i dont use bondo, i use either rage extreme or mostly metal glaze. apply the bondo of your choice with pressure to assure you applied it smoothly. if you want to take your time to make it smooth, apply less hardener til you get the layer smooth. apply pressure takes out the bubbles.
Damn seems like you can whip up a pretty good paint job bro, been watching your vids for a while ha ha. Well since I saw the 50 dollar paint job for your EF. Keep em coming though, good work and good stuff so mad props to ya.
