i get this problem with my 8600gts, seems that its the resolution. i use ubunto on a dual core 8600gts 17" 2048x1024 monitor. It flickers like this when its anything over 1024x768. 59HZ.
This can happen if the dot clock is set too high. I doubt it is the problem here but it may be worthwhile checking what the maximum dot clock the NVS295 can handle, then look at your xorg file to see what it is set to.
I have the exact same problem But on AGP8x 256MB Nvidia geforce FX 5200 with 173 drivers installed, Linux Mint

hmm? Well I installed 8.04 version of ubuntu instead and the flickering stopped o.0 I wonder why that happens?

oh man the same thing happends when i run ubuntu. i u se an ati card though. do you know how to fix it?
