How to repair a Playstation 3 PS3 Laser 2

I followed every last instruction in this video, and it's not working. The disc will spin for about 3 seconds, stop spinning, spin for another 3, stop and ect. I don't understand why and it's driving me crazy because my game has literally been broken for 6 months and I did everything this video said and it's still not reading discs.

question i got a new ps3 and i switch the cd changer from the new one and put it in the old one and it still didn't work? do i have to change just the blue ray

well i checked my laser and it works perfect but the disc drive wont spin aka the black thing that the disc lies on i got new 1s but they dont even work and thier brand new so wont it be my cable ribbon or what

probably the small moter that spins the disc is out ..would be my guess probably need a full kit to repair

i recently cleaned out the lens in my ps3 but every time i go to quit the game my ps3 goes to a black screen and the disc keeps skipping until i hold the power button down for a few seconds...this happens all the time now? anyone else have this problem?

@rockabillysilly  You probably shouldn't clean the laser in a ps3, especially the older PS3's because the lens is very delicate, unless you used something specifically designed for Blu-Ray lenses, but I haven't seen many of those products on the market

Have you tried rebuilding the PS3 database or resetting the PS3 from the service menu? Sometimes the files system gets corrupted and these 2 methods will get your PS3 back on track. If you are interested just search youtube there are tuts on here

Why did you replace the laser lens when you had a spare laser drive with a new lens in it.

I guess he showed it so that the people that just got the laser without the deck thing would be able to apply their new laser on their old deck I guess it's helpful cause I wouldn't have probably notice the 2 pieces that were on the lens itself so yah I think it's good info.

my bluray dont read any disc. the clock is loading forever in the right upper corner. the bluray is not making any noise. i cleaned the lens. still it dont read the discs. everything else is working perfectly. i found the full deck of the laser on amazon for 80$ manufactured by sony. what do u recommend me? should i buy it? will this 100% solve my problem?

I made it up to the screws for the railing, but they seem too tight to get loose. I've tried a few different screwdrivers but they really seem to be stuck in there. Any help for this?

Its called "MADE IN CHINA" Folks! Things last one year, then die. The Laser is responsible for reading/writing data to the disc. With the PS3, it just reads data, not writes, to the disc.

Ur vid is great, although I managed to jack it up. I replaced the laser and mech. After I was done, it wouldnt accept discs. I figured out that I put the copper ribbon in upside dwn, after I fixed that my PS3 would take the disc make a few funny sounds and that was it. I tried ejecting the disc but it wouldnt work either. I had 2 push open the gate 4 the disc 2 come out. I replaced the new mech w/ the old 1 and put the new laser on the old mech and it works great. tuk me 7 hrs to figure it out.

@Timscorner : the serial number of the laser for the 40gb is KES-400A ( I know because mine is a 40gb too ) . with that you should be able to find a laser on ebay , but if you should get a laser or a laser and mech is up to you : buying just the laser is cheaper , but if you buy the mech with it , it is easier to install , but more expensive . I bought just the laser , but if you're not that good at this kind of thing , I suggest you get the mech with it . the mech number is KEM-400AAA .

i broke that little red wire i think it is the auto feed. i have to say it is the stupidest place to put that wire. it holds the two panels together. trying to fix that is a bitch it is a lost cause. has anyone else had this happen ? how did you fix it? thanks so much for this video any recomendations to get the laser cheap?

you can get one from ebay for like $50. Just make sure it is a BROWN Clip and not any other one. And it should be the KES-400A etc.

This BD player did not work after reassembly. It will take the disc, but not spin up or eject it. Near the very center of the video, is a small hole, that is showing the white loose gear below it.

So you must tilt top (or back of PS3 end) toward you b4 putting it in place. Better yet, put something (like a screwdriver) in the hole to prevent it from sliding into view. In tech terms, this is called an assembly alignment port. It's all it's there for! :D

can anyone help. my ps3 freezes when i push the PS button and it sometimes freezes inthe game aswell
