  • I Love the Port of Los Angles! It is my favorite place in the world

  • I love the ports, I work in one in Sweden, it is quite large, so about a year I will move to Los Angeles and work in the port of La

  • where is it the most produced?Los angeles or long beach?

  • @MsAutobodyman Don't know much about the oil biz in LA County since my tours don't include the LA harbor and Long Beach areas, although it's nice to take passengers along La Cienega Blvd to see the LA oilfields, perhaps LA has more land based pumping jacks concentrated there. Oil helped to kick start the LA economy into the industrial age so I do include some reference with my tour passengers.

  • any oil production?

  • @MsAutobodyman Oil has and still is important in the the area with land rigs pulling out the crude and processing taking place at many local refineries!

  • great port, great city

  • This is a whole other world unto itself.

But to say the port is necessary is an understatement. Although it may be a hectic area with down-right inconveinent

schedule's it is very crucial for daily life. Shipments of supplies and etc. I wonder how many people are employed by the port and shipyards?

  • There is hundress of ship yard employes with out counting the thousand of truck drivers that work for free in the terminals. Unfortunatelly the Port of Long Beach deny the posibility to considerate the truckers as employes and wanted to continiuos with the old system to slayve the drivers inside the yards.

  • I think the opening sequences from the movie "Out of Bounds" were shot at this location.

  • TONS of movies have been shot around this area, believe it or not (like gone in 60 Seconds and Death Race). I lived there with my dad for four months on a boat, when I was really broke.. It's FILTHY and scary and boring. There is 50% more diesel particulates there than what is considered to be beyond hazardous to ones health.

  • Amazing how feature films can make any real estate fascinating just by making it famous. Movies are very powerful indoctrination tools.

  • Yeah derek, the harbor isn't a place where people go for recreation or fun unless they're going on a cruise, but in the movies its the place where the loot is hidden or that chance to get away or hide amongst the ships, docks and buildings away from the public eye...but in these days of high surveilance, can they be undetected?...only in the movies!

  • It's all good! People around the world and in the country recognise Los Angeles as a distinct personality because areas like this are made famous in so many different films. I'd bet it's good revenue for the city as well!

  • Yup its nasty to live in the harbor here! But working the ports is AWESOME and deadly! Also, not just gone in 60 sec and death race but fast and furious and the chase scene in mr. & mrs. smith, and even charlie's angels and countless other movies have been shot in this area! There are constant closures of our bridges and freeways that are shut down every other weekend because of filming! I feel that I'm in a movie myself, weaving in and out of all those diesel trucks everyday!
