@Darlinqx92 No, it is said that he started experimenting drugs around the time he was filming "My Own Private Idaho." Which would be around 1991. I don't know many 17 year olds that are innocent, and I'm 17 myself, lol. He really is just shy. He stated several times during interviews that he feels insecure while doing them because he is such a private person. He made it clear he doesn't like discussing his personal life.

He is so innocent though, which just adds to his beauty :).

you can tell he is very uncomfortable, he never holds eye contact, he mostly looks down, & occassionally laughs awkwardly, you notice he springs too life when the interviewer says 'we've run out of time'..we cant shut our celebs up nowadays, he was so modest, nowadays our celebs are so big headed, & live for the camera, but for phoenix the camera lived for him..he was beautiful inside and out, we need more people like him in the public eye.

Argh why do the good always die so young? River, Kurt, Jeff Buckley... I used to be obsessed with River when I was 15, I wanted to be an actor and he really inspired me. Now I'm nearly as old as he was when he died. I feel he was only really growing into his life as an actor when he died, he had such talent, it would have been interesting to see what he did if he had lived. Such a sweet soul. R.I.P.

And I don't want to sound like a stupid fan-girl, but the man was very, very beautiful :)
