Where does this video come from? It has perfect picture quality as it would have been recorded with a modern screen grabber, but this video is from the early 90s!
@mrjazzycharon2 I uploaded this quick time movie from a CD-ROM called The 1997 MacAdvocate CD-ROM, as I wrote in my description of the video. In 1996, when this movie was produced, it was possible to connect a MacBook to a video projector, which is what the demonstrator did. Both the video projector and the microphone were connected to a professional VTR (Digital Betacam, I suppose) and the resulting video recording was imported by QuickTime using AVID or similar.
@acintoli Oh, too bad! :) PS, Do you know about games available for Performas running OS 7, specifically "Around the World in 80 days"? I cannot even find a record for it!
This is really sad for me... I grew up on System 7 to 7.5.3, I stopped using my old Mac when I was a sophomore in college back in 2002,... after growing and using OSX, this video on system 7.6 looks very foreign, I know it shouldn't, but it just feels like I'm using Windows (any version) when I watch this video. lol
Um, how about, the Atari TOS UI stole the Mac OS UI? The Mac OS UI debuted in The Lisa Office System on the Apple Lisa in 1983. Atari TOS debuted in 1985.
Dude, I feel a lot more grateful for what I've got now. Come to think of it, saving web pages with Cyberdog was a pretty damn cool feature then, and saving web pages with Firefox is a pretty damn cool feature now.
It does sound like Phil Schiller, but it is unlikely it could be him delivering the presentation, because he rejoined Apple in 1997 and this video was produced the year before.
@SPTSuperSprinter156: Actually, Mac OS 7.6 was released to market just after Windows 95 and it was far better than Windows 95 from the point of view of features and stability.
The success of Windows 95 is attributable to Microsoft's ability to copy the Mac OS interface, creating demand based on false promises and the fact that Windows 95 had a much better interface than Windows 3.1, to be honest.
It all comes down to being innovative (Apple) vs stealing (Microsoft).
but you would say that wouldn't you? typical Mac fanboy. Don't forget that Apple originally got a lot of their interface ideas from Xerox.
Quite frankly I don't see how the Windows 95 interface was stolen from the Mac at all, given the fact that it works completely differently. In fact, Windows 3.1 was more similar to early Mac OS.
Well, SPT, I AM a Mac fanboy, but I also did some research since 1991, when I began using Mac, and I also do Windows, and the current version, however similar it is to the Mac OS X of 2001, at least proves a breeze to play with, on an iMac in native mode.
Having said this, please compare a screenshot of Windows 3.1 and System 7 and please spot the similarities. Frankly, apart from windows, I do not see many.
As for Apple copying from Xerox, this has been a frequebt legend. The fact is that the Xerox GUI was never released to market and although it had a lot of the features we would find in the Mac from the onset, the GUI was not copied, but inspired and improved the Lisa interface that was further implemented on the Mac.
There isn't any. As you may read in the info panel for this video, this movie is included in the 1997 MacAdvocate CD-ROM, which was given away for free on demand at a time when Apple really needed to promote its products (namely, when Gil Amelio had replaced Michael Spindler as CEO).
Oh my days this is AWESOME! Man this reminds me of my first computer it wasn't a mac (it was a windows 3.11 w/ workgroups). I love the web browser and the old school apple web site and how everything is in MB. These days everythings in GB and now TB.
It presented a very different way of organizing your favorite web pages. Also, embedding a web browser in a document with a live TV feed and a notes section amazed many of my friends...
OpenDoc allowed a mixing and matching of parts so the user could build custom apps without any programming. Nothing has matched it since...
The voice does not change. It is two different product managers delivering their respective presentations. This is a compilation of several independent videos about the Mac OS 7.6.
Also, the word is SCSI, pronounced scuzzy for brevity, as is the case of many acronyms in the trade, such as GUI (pronounced gooey).
Thank YOU for yiur comment. Well, in this day and age of fast lives and second lives, one year is the equivalent of five, therefore for some, Mac OS 7 and later (1991 to 1997) equates with ancient history! Fortunately there are also people like me who actually used it :).
Yes, I do admit it, but do you remember the problems people had for over a year due to all the glitches? Without mentioning that (if you look at part two of this video) the Mac OS easily incorporated the internet as we know it today while Windows 95 had to wait a few months before inernet became feasible on it and with a laughable browser at the time.

@stainglassfox I am afraid that game is too new to run on Mac OS 7. Google "games for Mac OS 7" and good luck.

It looks so old! The Mac interface back then was admittedly simpler than Windows, it only became on par when they moved to Mac OS 8.
