  • GREAT COVER!!!!

  • I prefer a more Jimmy Bain technique. That finger style sounds so un-precise.

  • ricken...

  • one of my favorite maiden songs!

  • how old are you?

  • The bass sounds very good, but, I don't know how I say this in english, so I'll try the portuguese: a música está cheia de firulas desnecessárias.

  • That is my style. I do not play anything just like the album, and I often improvise.

  • I really appreciated your style. But you kind of exaggerated sometime. Well, it's just a suggestion. And I remain my opinion, the sound of your timbre really rocks! What's your equippement?

  • Just the bass and a BP80 effects processor lined-in directly into my computer.

  • Oh ok.. Just that? And what about the amps?

  • Nope....just that. I have found that the best sound comes from direct line-in (using a USB guitar recorder). For some reason, the amp pegs the system too easily, and it introduces noise.

  • I'd really like to know how to do that....

  • Get an M-Audio Fast Track. That is the record I use. you just plug a 1/4" jack into it. I use the processor to shape the sound, but really the guitar recorder take the place of my amp entirely. You can find on easily on the internet for about $100.

  • Sorry for the bad grammar.....I was typing quickly.

  • older your so fu**ing good boar i wish i can play that so good

  • Damn sweet! I really love your technique man. Great sound from your Rick too. I gotta say though, those notes at 3:48 ain't right. It's kind of a shame coz the rest is so good.

  • which scale do you use for the chorus?

you are a god.. the best bass and the best songs..

  • Thanks for the compliment, but I honestly do not know what scale I use for parts of the song...it's a simple 2 fret spread. Probably a piece of a pentatonic scale. I'm really no good with musical knowledge...I just play along until it sounds okay to me.

  • the sound of your bass is amazing.

    great playing.

  • None of your vids cease to amaze me, awesome job.

  • You are F***ing amazing...

  • The backup band was pretty good too.

  • Dude! Drive that big bass rickenbacker! W00!

    Man, you so nailed that!

  • So THAT'S how Steve Harris would sound if he had opted for a Rick over a P-bass.... one of the great masteries in life has been solved. Thanks man, you are a great player.

  • Big tribute to you. I wolud like play so good in future ;c)

  • nice job mate!

  • haha, that was quality! fucking awesome cover nice job mate

  • Great job man..hard ending ha???

I bet that you have listened to King of Twilight? From the IM B-sides...

  • hay would u be able to do a lesson video for the chorus??

& great video by the way

  • Freakin' sweet man, great job! Ever think about doing Phantom of the Opera? I love the bass in that song.

  • Thanks, man. Phantom is a great song. However, I would have to work on that one to re-learn it (haven't played it in years). And even so, I faked it through parts in the past, especially on the bridge after the solo. I may have the skill to pull it off, now, but it will take some doing. It's probably one of the hardest Harris tunes. A good choice, nonetheless.

  • is the 4003 as good as its said to be?

  • Better.

  • wow...

    that's some crazy stuff man

harris is personally my favorite bassist and your covers are pretty much perfect.

keep it going with the maiden

  • I love your taste in music, this is an amazing cover. Just so ya know, I have ripped alot of your covers off of youtube and put them on my iPod, I actually prefer to listen to you cover songs because I can clearly hear the sexy bass

  • I didn't even know you could do that! Wow...thanks for listening!

  • dude, your awesome, but I still want to see do "My Name is Mud" by Primus

  • i hope one day i can be half as good as you

  • Ive been lurking for some time and have been subscribed to your videos for quite a while and all I can say is WOW. One of my favorite Maiden renditions Ive heard you play. Glad to have you back after some time. Perhaps I will finally bite the bullet and put up some of the vids Ive recorded...too bad I dont have a Rick....yet.

  • Go for it, and don't worry about not having a Rick...they're expensive but their general sound can be replicated with other basses (my Schecter can somewhat do it).

Thanks for the kind words and up the irons!

  • Hey Rob, welcome back! That sounded damn smooth! Woo!!! Well, I drove up to Seattle Monday to see Maiden live. It's been 23 years since the last time I saw them and other than Bruce's haircut and the addition of Janick, they were the same Maiden. It was AWESOME - just like the Powerslave tour with the Egyptian backdrop and giant mummy Eddie, and they started with Churchill's speech and went right into Ace's High. They even played the entire Rime of the Ancient Mariner! YEEAAHHH!!!

  • Man, that is friggin' awesome! (jealous) Been a while since I slipped into a Maiden show. Life-changing experience...and the power of the bass!! Crushing!

Yes, it is good to be back, and you know what that means, don't you? THE TROOPER! It's next on my list.

I am surprised that people are watching this vid. I didn't think anyone even listened to this tune, any more. But I recommended this tune to players wanting to learn Maiden and didn't want to leave them floating without a rudder.

  • One more thing...I am considering Rime myself. Care to join me in the epic of epics? No time pressure.

  • Ah, now THAT would be awesome. From a guitar playing standpoint, Rime is not too difficult technically, it's just A LOT to remember, hahahha. I would definitely be down for that, and yes it will take a while. As for Trooper, still waiting on the other guy... I'll ping him. Woo!

  • I'll be recording the Trooper today in video format. I recorded Rime last night for audio, but I still have some endurance issues to deal with in the part just before the long slow middle. Steve plays some seriously insane stuff there and it costs me all of my left hand endurance.(the part right after Bruce sings "her chosen one").

  • Brilliant again. One of the greatest bassists on youtube! It's a pleasure to hear your covers

  • Hi zodiakironfist, how are you?

wow! GREAT new videos!!! as always you play very well the bass!!! you are a GREAT bassist!!

how you record your videos with a good sound?

Today I post a video, is me playing my electric drum. but I have problems with the sound. I used a webcam, but it is listened very low the sound.

you use a webcam or another cammera?

    you use microphone?

    have a nice week!

    -Ale-

  • Much appreciated, as always, Ale. I use a direct recorder...called a Fast Track by M-Audio. It plugs directly into the computer. I shoot my videos with a digital camera, so I can dedicate all of my CPU speed to audio. Then, I upload the video into the computer and convert it to avi format for Movie Maker.

Oh....and I also use a Digitech BP80 effects processor for gain, EQ, and effects (little reverb and compression).

So it is all done without an amp.

  • Hia again zodiakironfist.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Much appreciated. I will try to improve my sound.

    -Ale-

  • Man you aced that and I loved your fills very Maiden! Very Good Job!

  • Thanks.....I learned how to fill from listening to Maiden albums. Harris is a master, and my first bass idol.

  • Yea Harris has been my biggest influence since I started playing bass! lol

  • excellent job, as always great song, love maiden

  • Thanks, remains. Maiden will always be one of the best, to me. I grew up with it.

  • As the sun breaks above the ground!!!!

  • ...an old man stands on a heeeel.

wht??.. nvr would have guessed ;P haha

still have to check out your other covers sometime soon! ahh they were hmm :)? well guns n roses were the first rock band i liked, but have since found i like iron maiden, led zep, pink floyd and the beatles, quite a bit more :P

aw and ur welcome! u totally deserve recognition!!! :D and i really love hearing ur talent!!

    \m/ up the irons! \m/

  • loving the tune rob. im not the biggest primus fan so i go crazy when you do other stuff like this!!! UP THE FUCKING IRONS!!!!!!

  • Thanks a lot, Panda. I honestly did not know that Primus wasn't your cup-o-tea. No biggie, though...we all have different tastes. There is nothing I loathe more than someone requesting something from me and I do not like the band. I hate to tell 'em no.

Thanks for all of the support you have given me over the months. You guys are really nice, and I owe y'all much.

  • Right on dude. Actually seeing Maiden tonight in Auburn, WA.. !!

  • Well give Steve a Bic salute for me. \m/

  • Love this song.

    Great cover Rob!

Oh I have videos now... :P

  • Saw it....you have a nice touch with your hammer and pulls. Something I am still working on. And your fingers are long and knuckley, excellent digits for ganing control like I will never have. Good stuff...I gave ya a 5.

  • Great job, suena genial.

    Sigue asi. Bye

  • Mucho apreció. Gracias por caer por una escritura una línea.

  • sick mate

    ps.what amp are u using?

  • muy bien!!!

me encantan todas las canciones que tocas!!

    Gracias por alegrar mis oidos!

  • Good Job, man. Sounded great :-) Not a song I'm familiar with but definitely sounded killer.

  • Good Work. Steve Harris would be proud. That Rick looks like the one cliff burton (Metallica) used

  • Hey there master player! Nice video, very good playing and the bass sounds awsome <3 This is probably the only really good Maiden song I havent touched yet. Did you know Nicko doesnt like this song? Haha, just wanted to get that out. Well anyway, nice playing, keep us inspired! ^^

  • Well, then it is twice as funny that he doesn't like the song because they made him play a significant part of the video wearing a cloak (those eyes were unmistakable). LOL.

Thanks a bunch, Morbid, and I hope you get your bass in order soon. What happened?

  • haha yes thats true, but he looks like he's having fun playing, they must have told him to act that way too ^^ anyway, my bass is actually fixed now, the problem was the output socket on the bass, its custom made and there was no rubberband holding it tight, so it kept turning around all the time, causing chaos to the cables inside. I just dont have anyting new to upload for the moment, but Im working on it haha ^^

  • the ricky sounds killer dude.

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Thanks and up the irons back at ya!

  • That was fantastic great bass!

  • Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed it.

  • Flubbed note? what flubbed note?

Great job, Mr. Roberto. As you know, from someone who pretty much hates anything that has to do with the 80's (eve though I was born slap on 1980), the music from that decade is much more enjoyable when the leader of the LRRG's is involved.

I have no proof yet, but you who is a scientist will appreciate this: I have a theory that you and a certain 'fro-wearing guitarist LRRG are long lost brothers.

  • At about 1:38 or so I think I play the last part of the rising sequence of the pre-chorus half of a position too high. I could be wrong, but I didn't play on that spot again after that. Also, the last three notes of the song were slightly off time....I also think on the first rising part of the pre-chorus, I missed hitting the octave of the A note with the right punch because I was being too tentative.

I can always find some notes I didn't play as well as I would have liked.

  • PDX and I are musicially very compatible, which is one of the reasons we have decided to collaborate together a bit. Our stage style and skill level are very similar, as is our disregard for the script as written.

Thanks for all of your support, Pook, and rock on, bro!

  • GAhh i love this song :D great job :) 5/5

  • the sound that bass guitars create are amazing, and you do it Great.

  • Great basswork. I love the way you play Maiden with the little fills you put in here and there and of course the way you attack the strings.

    Keep posting them vids!

  • 5th comment :)

  • 4th comment

    Nice bass n cover

  • Thanks.

  • beautiful ric

  • Thank you...however, up close, she has clearly seen better days. I really botched a finish job on her once and she is worn through the finish in places. But I love my '74 Rick no matter how many warts she has.

  • I like to think of stuff like that as "character". All that stuff just shows how much it's been played.

  • same like Stevie ray's guitar

  • Always great videos from zodiakironfist... : ) No matter what it ALWAYS (and always will) kicks ASS!!! Nice job once again, a real Maiden classic.

  • Much appreciated, and yes, this Maiden tune takes me back quite a bit. Not as flashy as many other Maiden tunes, but for some reason, I love the bass line.

  • No shit! My dad is also a kick-ass bassist and both of you are excellent. Keep up the good work, Rob. : )

  • Thank, Moman. I will certainly try.

  • amazing as always

  • Thanks.
