  • Lets trade beaches just for a day. Wanna? I'm in Southern California.

  • you a big thanks for this vedio i ve had some issues with my corals exactly the same you showd us .. i expose it for less than 5sec i just moved it from the tank to the sump during the tank manintenance and i start losing the colors and i was sure that exposing it to the air for this short period is the couse

thank you again i wish i was there to collect some of these gr8 corals ... just kidding :)

  • is fiji hot all year round

  • @ArinOngunTV

Pretty much the same kind of temps year round, generally only a 3-4 degree difference between the winter and summer season. The big difference is the humidity and rain during the summer season which will make it feel much hotter.

  • wish i could frag some of those too take home :)

  • wow i wish i could have some lol

  • it's amazing how these acros can stay out of water for such a long time, but even the slightest changes with anything in home aquariums can kill them off! great video! =D

ohh, and maybe next time you visit you should bring those trusty coral sheers huh? =p

  • those blue starfish are EVERYWHERE in fiji

    its pretty awesome

  • I would get arrested for trying take corals... I couldn't help myself... .LOL

  • Your not the only one....lol

  • yea you need a CITES permit to collect anything and plus you need to take it to one of the offices of marine and forestry and have the officers inspect what you can take and what you cant take. They hook me up because im fijian born ;)

  • What restrictions are there on these corals being collected? Also, is this a daily occurrence?

That is like a modern gold mine that probably can't (and shouldn't) be touched.

  • You need permits for any collecting and shipping of aquatic life there.

The tides go out twice a day.

  • haha Im aware tides go out 2x per day.

I was wondering if the beds are exposed during each low tide or just extremely slack tides. Here in NJ where I take my Jeep on the beach, the low tides vary greatly day-to-day, week-to-week. I would be suprised to hear these reefs are exposed 2x daily for hours EVERY DAY. Thats a lot of stress. It doesn't look like the tide pools (4-5" pools) are far at all, so if the tide varies THERE like it does HERE, these corals might not be exposed every day.

  • Well when I was there this happened every day. Maybe varied and inch or two but I could not tell.

  • @LimpitsReef beata a te

  • @ODYNOful

    Sì, molto fortunato

  • Gorilla crabs kill Acros, hate them.

  • I'd be terrified to walk anywhere near them in fear of breaking them, because I knew if I broke one I'd have to give it a new home in my tank. lol Yep, can never go there, I'll get arrested.

  • very cool limpitsreef. how long would the corals remain exposed in that low tide?

  • For over an hour easily before the tide starts coming back in

  • Awesome vids man! All of your videos are interesting, I watch all the time.

  • im paying $6.75 a pound for live rock in ARIZONA HELL NO

  • well actually its possible last year i went to cancun and i was on a low tide and it happened de same corals were out of the water

  • wow great video, i knew it happened occasionally, but that was awesome.

  • AWESOME

  • nice vid beat ya cant leave leather corals out the water as long:)

  • You need foam over your Mic :)

Very neat. What is the temp on the ground?

  • This video was taken with my digital still camera in movie mode so there would be no way to foam the mic.

    Temp. was upper 90's

  • Ah okay. Not possible then. Upper 90s, very interesting.

  • Lots of digitate acros!!!Nice shoot!!!

  • that happens over here in the florida keys and the bahamas were the coral heads are close to the surface

  • Damn, and im paying sixs bucks a pound for live rock:(

  • tell me about, its $9 here in GA for anything other than semi-cured rock

  • i want to go there at low tide i'd bring an extra cuite case... lol

  • Are you walking on the coral? Not cool

  • NO I DID NOT!

Watch and LISTEN to the video again, I state that I can no longer walk past a certain point or I would be walking on the coral.

  • u should a fragged 1 just a peace lol

  • How long do those low tides last? Would be nice to know how long your corals could last out of the water.

  • Totally out of the water like when I filmed for about an hour or two. Then tide starts slowly coming back in

  • Next month I'm going to vuda,Fiji.

  • Awesome, Fiji is a fantastic place!

  • in blackpool reefs ,england the water is cold. i got like 5 anenemones from a rockpool. there was lots of living stuff in there like hermits and yellow/blue fishes. i put the anenemonesi n my tropical marine tank and the clownfish acclimized to them and the anenemones stayed alive. does this mean they were tropical anenemones ? england is quite cold the reefs are about 12- 20 degrees celceus

  • My guess is that they were just able to acclimate to the warmer water.

  • i g o to blackpool beach. in england . water is pretty cold here but i found alot of anenemones. your allowed to take them. it lived in my tropical marine tank and my wild clownfish started cudeling it . does that mean it is a tropical anenemone ? i also seen lots of gobys and yellow , blue fish swiming around the rockpools and sooo many hermit crabs. my marine tank is gone now im getting new ones =)

  • great video and all, but why would you be taking corals like that? were you able to put a kangaroo in your bags too?

  • I never said I was taking any corals.

It was a joke what I said about my suitcase.

Also, there are no kangaroo's in Fiji. :)

  • Just so everyone knows there are many coral reefs around the world that are exposed at low tide, this is totally normal and has been going on for centuries.

Please, someone from Australia or someone who has seen this on the great barrier reef comment and confirm.

Several spammers here seem to think that I am full of B.S. about this.

  • geez...look at all the expensive corals dying.

  • They are NOT dying!

This happens to them twice a day, every day.

That is what this video was made to show, that they are out of the water and still survive.

  • unreal very cool video

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Are you allowed to take that ?

  • I suppose if you lived there and had a tank you could.

You cannot take it out of the country though without the proper permits.

  • That is a huge aquarium! but someone should tell that guy to top it off or all his livestock is going to die.

  • LOL, good one!

  • That's amazing.

  • great video! thats amazing how they can stay out that long

  • i didnt think they could do that

  • Excellent video! Thanks for posting such great information.

    Regards,

    Kevin

  • Your very welcome!

  • When are you going to Vuda Fiji? Hoping to meet you there, and learn lots of things about reef. It will be very interesting!

  • I would go there tomorow if I had my way!

We are planning to visit Fiji again in 2010.

I can't wait to go, such a beautiful place.

  • no wonder there's so much live rock from fiji!

  • Corals are colourful. You were so gentle to the crab. when my Kris found a crab, she tried to take out the crab from it's cozy house with a piece of coral, the crab was smart, so Kris gave up. Thanks for sharing.

  • That's my child hood place. I use to collect cowries over there. I miss home. My daughter was there last year. She enjoyed there. She loved coastal area. The sea, reefs. She made videos too. It's so beautiful.

  • I found everything about Fiji to be beautiful and hope to get back there soon.

It is a wonderfull place with wonderfull people.

  • Are you at Vuda point,Lautoka?

  • Wow, good eye!

The footage was taken off the beach at First Landing Resort.

  • Is it Vuda Point reef?

  • Yes it was taken there.

  • "Hey there little gorilla crab" LOL entertaining video.

  • Great info

  • Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

  • It was more proof that a lot of people in this hobby freak out when corals are out of water. You frag them out of water right?!!!!! Also it allows us to buy them across country and proves it's safe to ship them. Looks like it was an awesome place to visit.

  • Yes, you can frag them right out of the water no problem. Check out my other videos to see some SPS and LPS fraging out of the water at one of my reef club meetings.

Fiji was really a paradise and want to get back there asap.

  • the other vidoes are great as well. Sorry I wasn't asking if you could. I was more making a statement that you Do frag them outside of H2O. I have fraged many myself.

  • Thanks again for your comments.

  • you actually aloud to take some of those corals??

  • Well, its not legal to take any livestock out of the country without the proper permits.

  • man i wish could goin down my local beach and just put some of those corals in me tank. i live on the isle of wight (uk) and its shite! waters too polluted too.. stuck some of these goby lookin things though, 2 weeks they still alive!

    crazy!

  • awesome nice info i wish i could visit fiji

can you bring take corals from there???

  • Thanks for your comment. As with most places where corals are found you need special permits to export them legally.

  • Excellent! Increased my knowledge and understanding.

  • I'll make it out there one day :D

  • I had no idea that it could survive so long without water. Interesting video.
