  • hey I'm not in AM but was wondering what you feel about the program. I am currently in university taking design but I recently realize I really enjoy animation and really want to pursue in the industry. AM sounds great but there are also great art schools I can go to as well so I wondering how AM is. I currently dont have any idea on how animation works and was wondering how difficult it is. thanks a bunch.

  • @heygals As far as animation schools go, I think AM is a great school. Two perks that instantly come to mind are that you can take the classes anywhere (as long as you have access to internet, of course), and that you're being mentored by professional animators in the industry. There are of course a lot more good reasons, but there are too many to fit under 500 characters. As far as difficulty, just like any trade it takes a lot of practice, so it's what you make of it.

  • @SchallerRyan Hey thanks for the fast reply! hmmm ya I guess I got thinking to do but I got time since I wont apply to AM maybe for another 2 years. hahah maybe I am thinking too far. So is Maya a difficult program to learn or does AM provide step by step instructions? thanks.

  • @heygals Maya's learning curve is quite steep... I would recommend trying to learn the ins and outs of the program as much as possible before attending AM. Although that's not completely necessary, as AM *does* have a springboard class which you can take that will teach you the basics of Maya, but you'll be able to learn a lot more actual animation principles and such if you're not also trying to wrestle with figuring out how to use Maya.

  • @SchallerRyan hmmm ok thanks for advice. I think they have an introduction course on Maya in my school maybe I should check it out. Although my school just a normal university not really focus on media arts so I was wondering if you knew any good online resources for tutorials on Maya. thanks.

  • @heygals I went to a university before I went to AM, that's where I learned how to use Maya. I say take the class if it's being offered... I found it much easier to be guided into Maya a bit than to just try and jump in and figure it out. As far as online resources, there are plenty but I can't think of any specific sites at the moment. Google is your friend. :)

  • What's that Ryan? It's kind of awesome?

Yep, yep it is. Keep up the hard work...you may get to Pixar level yet. I'm counting on you to make more cheesy movies with which I can fill up my dvd shelf. And amuse the kiddies. Well, Later Days. ;)
