For those who wonder who wrote it first; I can confirm that it was the brilliant Ms Tracy Chapman, as I had her album, which on it also had 'Fast Car'. Boyzone did well in making a cover though, but, as @angryexile said, each to their own with regards to music. :)

@rachrooza Chapman was singing this in the 80s when I was in secondary school, and Ronan Keating would've been a kid at the time. It was on her debut album 'Tracy Chapman', which I've still got on vinyl somewhere, but since I can't show you I can tell you that iTunes says it was released in 1988. If you prefer this Boyzone cover version, fair enough - each to their own and even though I prefer the original I'd say they did it well. But credit the artist who actually wrote it: Tracy Chapman.
