  • great vid but... no Rome? come on.. Rome is the capital of the world, the eternal city...

where's Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Moscow... but still great vid.

  • I think Hong Kong is part of China.

  • maaan, I want your job!! lol

  • How about RUSSIA? Where is Russia?

  • What is about Vienna?

  • Yaay Tokio is the best.

  • HEY !! u should have shown the better picture of THAILAND...!

    ur really cool

    thanks for the videos...

  • what about spain?u would need 155 days to see spain.

  • Philippines????

  • no istanbul but churchtown, i even dont remember the name

  • u missed vietnam its shoulld be around half of the world

  • Around the world? Pfff.. half the cities were in America :D

  • unbeliveable you have the best job in the world!:)

    any jobs going ther...lol

  • lol he sure does

  • WHERE IS POLAND AND AUSTRIA ...

  • Matt is going for a long stroll.

  • to be fair it is stated that you should have permission for everything in your videos. youtube rules as well.

legally you're not allowed to use other peoples work without them allowing you to.

  • It mentions under the description of the winning video that the winner "killed two birds with one stone by narrating and making her own song"

This implies using other music was against the rules. If it was, it wasn't mentioned anywhere specifically, and I guess it's too bad the hard work of myself and others were ignored because a lack of clarification of the rules. All in all any kind of response from Hostelworld would be much appreciated.

  • I agree slowcassette, yours was the only video i thought was competition for mine. Depending on whether they wanted an arty, creative video or a factual/documentary style insight into world travel. lack of countries/continents may have got you, not talent

I personally would have liked to have seen at least 1 non-european/white face in the winning video. I was shocked when I travelled, the world is full of people not indigenous to europe. There's loads of them out there. The world is amazing

  • 'We wanted to associate ourselves with quality videos'

i didn't know mine was that bad compared to the other selections. i thought it was right up there. i thought it captured it all, i thought it was original, captivating, inspirational, skillfully edited

people see things so differently, it's sometimes shocking.

  • I'm just a little confused as to how the winner and runner ups were chosen. As good as they were, there were some video entries that were definetely overlooked, like Local time is..., London time, Guatamazing...

What was it that didnt qualify these videos?

Was it wrong to use music that wasn't their own?

  • hostelworld, are you absolutely sure about your decision? i'm very surprised. there is a massively diverse and wonderful world outside of europe, full of different cultures, religions, climates and ethnicities. This is why people should travel, to see and experience as many contrasts to their own lives as possible.

I thought hostelworld may have wanted to associate itself with the almost limitless expanse of the world and not just a limited corner.

    Congratulations to the winner!!!

  • DomOne,we couldnt be more sure about our decision. While it doesnt feature as many countries as some other entries,it captivates everything about backpackingmaking friends & seeing new places. If you look at runners-up (which you are one),youll see many of them concentrate on just one place. We wanted to associate ourselves with quality videos,& the winning entry is just that.Congratulations on being one of the runners-up!Will be in contact to find out how to send you your prize ;-)

  • mmm... anticipation

  • The winner has been announced! To see the winning video go to Hostelworld and click on 'Guides'. You'll see a story about the winning video.

  • (drumroll...)

  • ...and the winner is! (see above comment to see how to view the winning video)

  • I'm very very ansious to know the winner!!!

  • Hi guys,

Due to the unprecendented amount of entries, the winner will now be announced this Thursday, December 18th. The winner will be announced on the site - I will put a comment here to let you know we have picked a winning video. Thanks.

    Colm Hanratty,

    Hostelworld

  • Where is the Winner???

  • If you go to hostelworld and click on guides you'll see a link to the story about the winning video.

  • And the winner is ......

  • i can't wait to find out!

  • Plus technically this "around the world" video is 177 seconds long.

  • The video itself is 177 long, but if you time how long it takes for me to walk from Dublin back to Dublin again you'll see it's 156 seconds ;-)

  • Oh, ok.

  • Cheers jjpme92un!

I'm not seeing any restrictions on length of video. I suppose its a bit academic now anyway.

  • I've read the Competition's guidelines and it was saying that the videos should have until 156 minutes of length.

I can see that many competitors have subscribed videos with more than the maximum time requested.

    Is that correct?

  • 156 min. length?! Unholy grasshoppa mon - that's like over 2.5 hrs!!

  • Sorry! 156 seconds lenght!!

  • I just read the guidelines for the competition and though THEIR video is "Around the world in 156 seconds," it didn't mention anywhere that there was a time limit for submissions.

  • It states nowhere in the terms and conditions about length of entries. But unfortunately this competition is closed now. The winner will be announced on December 15th.

  • When's the deadline for the competition and when do we find out who's won?

PS What did people do before hostelworld? Great service! Cheers

  • Deadline was Nov. 30 - yeah... how do we find out who wins - hopefully they email the winner at least.

  • why do u go to bejin then back to tokyo than athens.. thats not really going around the world..

+ as far as i can see from this video you skiped alot of countries..

  • Beijing was next stop after Hong Kong, so put the clips in the same order as the trip. And yep, I skipped a lot of countries, but can't visit everywhere...

  • skipped

  • kool video, whats the name of that song playing? xx

  • Thanks - glad you like it! Song's called 'Eple' by a band called Royksopp

  • it's ok - not as good as 'where the hell is matt' - I think they ripped off his idea a bit.

  • it would be perfect if you stop saying hi to the camera and stop walking like that......

make it like a mv would be beautiful

    well...it's a clever commercial though.
