  • Lol. If you took a ride from a stranger now you'd get gangraped.

  • A great scene. I could watch that chemistry all day.

  • Nice he had a wingman.

  • I love how he practically lifts her into the car without her spoken permission, and then pushes her into the car. It's creepy and sexy at the same time, haha.

  • number one jimmy

  • It's not obvious at first she draws you in very alluring Cagney and Woods awsome

  • JAMES: And my name is...

TOM: (to Gwen) he don't got a name, he got a number.

    ha ha hahaha xD

    that was so hilarious.

  • Jean Harlow may not have been what you call a classic beauty, but she was beautiful on the inside and out.The way they talk in old movie,on any language, isn´t wrong,it´s the generation of today that can´t speak proper.

  • I've never gotten what men saw in her. She's bent over and looks like she has two black eyes. And that outfit! What kind of a decent woman would have let a man stand so close at this time? Weird.

  • @Songsmirth Jean Harlow did not have class or the best face or fashion sense, but she did have a sensational body, trafficstoppingly dropdead gorgeous. Evident by hint, in outline in long 1930s bodyslinking skirts.

  • Poor Jean. Born in 1911 so she would have been about 19 when this picture was made. Died in 1937. The original blond bombshell. The only one who ever came close to her was Marilyn Monroe.

  • Love the smile that Cagney gives at 0:26... ;-)

  • giving up Mae Clarke for Jean Harlow? no, never. not in a hundred years

  • paul bern would never have been impotent with jean harlow, she turns me on everytime i see her, ha, ha.

  • jean harlow is so sexy.

  • Great! Just now finished my paper on this scene!

Hahah, what can I say, it's a great class. :D

  • Great footage..."pre code" Hollywood. Love both these actors.. Thanx

  • I really love this old hollywood 20s 30s look with the fingerwave styled hair thin eyebrows heavy make up and the clothes very classy and beautiful.

  • @britneysprsfan1 yes, many girls would look more beautiful with that kind of style, than the crap they wear now, it suits many types of figure to.

  • @britneysprsfan1 Yeah but really hard to maintain on a daily basis which is why it's not so easy to go back in style.

  • James Cagney - hotter than hot....as a woman he steals my heart in this scene :)

  • Now thats how to mack... He took charge, showed who was the Alpha male, and didn't hesitate for his chance...Good going Tom!!!

  • I watch the guys like Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney... They teach me to talk. I like those guys - Tony Montana

  • It makes me so mad where these videos hardly get viewed and one get one rating each month, but the stupid new music get's comments and ratings more.

  • MNPD007: If Cagney threw you around you wouldnt be able to call the cops. No livin' witnesses.

  • Girl, I'm going to meet my friends on the corner. No cell phones, they used to memorize name prefix/numbers, like Ange3369.

  • 1:48. Harlow gets out in front of the El Rey Theatre. Good detective work!

  • wow she is hot

  • Its not really know out there but Jean was Marilyn Monroes Idol and she got he style from her.

  • Happy birthday jean harlow we will alwayz love u

  • Live in the Miracle Mile area of LA just love the Art Deco buildings and apartments.

  • Cagney was a trip! If you threw women around like that today you'd get arrested for domestic violence.

  • Jean always got praised for her looks, but blasted for her acting... I can see why! Who thought to give her the phony Oxford accent... "IIthurr" for either my ass!

  • youve obviously never seen any of Jeans later movies...because she turned into quite an excellent comedic actress...this early effort was before she started getting the full blown M-G-M star treatment and starring in her movies...check out "Red Dust" or "Dinner at 8" or "China Seas"...youll be amazed at the difference in her acting ability.

  • Mmm, I love this man. :)

  • Cagney was pretty damned hot.

  • Cagney is such a good actor

  • It certainly was easy to exchange phone numbers back then.

  • Gosh I think her outfit is swell!!

  • James Cagney cool and hot!

  • Thats how men should act-be a man.

  • haha, everyone is so happy and funny in this old film!

  • I love her in this film

  • Yeah. Her Mother insisted she take elocution lessons from Brits, like all stars at the time did. She's not very good in this, although the star quality is there in spades. By the time she died she was a brilliant comedy actress. Like Monroe, we'll never know what might have been.

  • Her speech is actually a unique amalgam of flat miswestern tones, nasally 1930s telephone operator pronunciation, coached upper crust diction and baby talk, making it very hard to emulate. Nobody else spoke like that, ever!

  • @Kittenlike outstanding mastery of the english language, you forgot, hoydee toydee!

  • @Kittenlike Sounds to me like she has a NY accent with the 30s baby talk.

  • @Kittenlike thank God no one at the studio tried to take that away from her

  • @Kittenlike I hope not. It hurts my ears.

  • Gotta luv 'broads' built like that....with attitude too............

  • Love the response Cagney gives to Harlow's character: "We're not gonna be strangers." Classic Cagney with the fist bump on the back of her arm as well.

  • my last name is harlow :]

  • Harlow is a legend. Howard Hughes sure knew how to pick 'em.

  • I would like to know which parts of LA this was shot in. I bet some of those larger buildings still exist.

  • This looks to be in the vicinity of Wilshire Blvd. Perhaps towards the eastern part of Wilshire, around where it intersects Normandie, Vermont, Western, etc.

  • You think it could possibly be Long Beach? The scene has a very coastal feel to it.

  • No, the street lights are very unique to Los Angeles. These lights were installed to the Wilshire area in the 1920s and many of them are still in place today. Furthermore, one of these buildings shown in the movie is also still standing, it is just north of Wilshire, in what is known as Korea town today. However the street name escapes me. Next time I am in that part of town, I will see what the street name is and post it.

  • Harlow exits the car right in front of the Bullocks Wilshire. The beautiful building still stands and is a law library.

  • I havent seen her befor. What a great actress with an individual face and voice.shes very seductive.

  • Jean Harlow was the first platinum blond star in Hollywood. She was born Harlean Carpenter in Kansas City, Missouri in 1911. She died at the age of 26 of renal failure. Her mother was a devout Christian Scientist, and because of her religious beliefs wouldn't allow any standard medical treatment when her daughter was deathly ill.

  • I love to hear Jean, who in so many of her films played a tough broad, use carefully coached upper-crust pronunciation to say in this clip, "You can let me off here. I'm going to meet my friends on the corner...."

James Cagney was a wonderful actor, too, whose tough guy character perfectly complimented Jean Harlow's persona.

  • imagine if you saw Jean Harlow like that walking down the street today. I would probably drop dead of shock! BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Very beautiful and elegant indeed. Its sad she died at the young age of 26.

  • What kind of car is that? Mabey a Lincoln?

  • why can't people drive around in cars like this today?

  • how cool , convertible in the winters, now that gangsta!

  • they were so touchy touchy back then like it didnt matter!lol

  • Thats called being human.Today we are backwards ass clusterfuct by a bunch of assholes that think they know shit, and everyone mindlessly follows.A little tochn might get people back into feelin human, instead of shooting each other.

  • I love Cody Powers Jarret.

  • Incredible scene, two icons trading dialogue amidst the awe and splendor of the 1930's....can't get any better

  • Harlows acting next to Cagney made her seem like a statue.

  • "Well... do I look good to you?"

    ahhhh, Miss Harlow.

  • This movie is Pre-Code. It is very interesting to watch films that are pre-code (pre-July 1, 1934), particularly films with sound.

  • Jean Harlow was the "it girl" before Marlyn Monroe. Wow... watching this footage really makes it hard to believe that she has been dead for over 70 years.

  • Jean seems to have an upper crust accent, but who cares........nade the whole world go "Blonde" at the time........

  • Yup -- sounds like London by way of Brooklyn, which is odd since her character is supposed to be from Texas...

  • Cagney's such a pimp in this movie. lol

    "Stick to your drivin' mug."

"He ain't got a name, just a number."

Jean is beautiful in this movie too. =)

  • ooohhhh that voice..!!

  • it sounds like she can't decide whether she wants to be a brit or a yankee

  • Jean sure had a charm.

  • Jean Harlow R.I.P. (Forever Young and Beautiful)

  • Man. I wish it was this easy to pick up women on the street lol.

  • I love how he falls into the door at the end! Great!

  • yeah that's hot

  • He's just a number, that's a classic line.

This is just delightful, the sweet voice, the lovely street scenes the cars and the dress of that time!

    Thanks for the show.

  • god i would have jumpe in james cagneys car straight away lol. they were both great.

does anyone know the film where harlow says, " what are you drivin at?"

  • Claudia, that was Dinner At Eight (1933) wonderful film!

  • Stick to your driving mug. LOL

  • Wonderful window into a bygone age. Gotta love those street scenes and vintage automobiles.

  • WOW, what aCAR'

jeanHARLOW was young only 20yrs old then

    in 31.

would you happen to have a copy

to uploan here called: SUZY ?

    with CARYgrant singing to her

    " DO YOU REMEMBER" '36

    a very talented actress indeed.

& my favorite movie was SUZY 1936*

  • I love this movie, but a funny part of it is her Texas accent. It doesn't take away from the movie though.

  • Actually, it isn't a Texas accent. It is the standard pronunciation that was taught to many Hollywood actresses. It was very much of the time, and was considered to be an elegant way of speaking. That is why it is so ironic that Jean Harlow, who most often played the role of a floozie, spoke that way. She was, if fact, born in Saint Louis, Missouri.

  • The guy driving looks a bit like Ray Liotta.Check him out at 1:35! :-)

  • yeah i agree

  • "he ain't got a name... just a number."

    XDDD

  • i've got the whole movie i bought it at jbhifi
