I'm an American with a handicapped American PS2.... I'm a HUGE Berserk fan, played Sword of Berserk over and over again, i wanna know how could I get this to play on my system? what do i need to buy in order to work this with subtitles?!? I NEED TO PLAY THIS FOR FUCKS SAKE!! thanks
Thihs is obviously what they should have used for the anime intro song. Whoever came up with "Tell me why" needs killing in the slow and painful way Guts killed the apostle in episode 1.
at what part does the game end? it seems immense the chapters from the ritual to the little witch is massive... does the game follow through all that. fk it took me a week to read just the part where Griffith is re birthed
The only thing I would change is to change the lame song in the background to forces! Despite having a bit of 80's synth to it, I have yet to find a song that pumps me up more than that!
Funny thing is... I'm 16, but I didn't grow armpit hair yet for some weird reason. After reading the manga and watching the anime of Berserk, they started to grow! >:D

@chocojan009 you're right, judeau and other appears in the game because charles, -spoiler- one of powers of charles is bring back the remains of memories to punish Guts... if you see Caska appears dressed like in golden age too, but the real Caska now have long hair, and several problems because the eclipse ritual

@warhammerguy The anime roughly covers volumes 1 and 3-13. Considering that volume 34 will be out from Black Horse in August or so, you can say the anime barely scratches the surface. Plus it lacks some major characters so the manga is definitely worth reading, although you may get the urge to eat a Dragon Slayer sword when you realize it's not going to end any time soon and the release pace is rather sluggish...
Ive tried to read manag before but if never got into it. Where does Berserk start? Ive watched the anime so i whan follow the story where that left off.
@BaggysAnime I'd call him more of a demon slayer, as he doesn't necessarily go after the demons (not the weak ones at least) , they come after him. I don't want to spoil anything, the manga is masterpiece, and it's still on going, you should give it a try.

I've watched the TV series but the manga goes far beyond. It's truly mindblowing and I just can't stop reading. Not only is the story epic, but the illustrations and art direction are superb. Miura is a genius.
Not even fair that only the Japanese get to play this. Berserk's one of the most epic manga out there, and a game that apparently goes all the way until he gets his armor? Man, it's a dream come true.
I hope one for the PS3 comes out there AND here in America.
@velmuvelho i think it refers to the band of the hawk that guts was a part of for awhile. but then he decides to leave because he wants to find his own destiny apart from griffith's ambition.
But this game (for which the song was made) is way after that part. Wouldn't seem appropriate to place a song of those events into a depiction of later events.
And how does Guts figure into a deer anyway? Is it some japanese thing about deer?
Not sure how long the game takes to play through, but i know it looks like it covers up to what has taken me about a good year and half to get read, (Licensing pulling the plug on the scans a few times, etc...).
I don't think an English version was ever released in the West. If your PS2 is modded there might be an image file with a translation patch, but I'm not sure. Never bothered with that sort of thing.

religion in the berserk universe has always been a twisted thing, often with skewed motivation. I'm sure Miura might have been influenced by the state of religion in medieval Europe, which was very often corrupt.
hes always had a very anti religious feeling to his manga, and its not unfounded, while not as dramatic as he depicted, the church has done a great deal of things during early mid evil times that could be said were unethical.

When i watched the whole series, i remember crying at the part when Gutz finally gets Grifith out of the kingdoms custody, and when Gutz is holding Grifiths frail and broken body, Grifith tries to strangle Gutz as best as he could.
Grifith was blaming what happened to him and his band of the hawks on Gutz leaving, he couldn't say it, but you just knew that's what he tried to strangle him for.

In response to Kamik001, In my opinion Donovan wasn't a great impact but it did build the kind of life guts had and it also intertwined with gambino a big role in guts' life. And it weren't just that cut, such things as the skull knight, Midlands secret assasins. The queens real motive for assassinating griffith, I found it all very interesting. I do agree with the fight scenes comment you made but their not too bad. The anime was a roar and a few frames of a sword swinging followed by blood.
Manga is much better (anime is still entertaining and good on its own) just like madnlain79 said. In anime they don't explain why Guts hate being touched etc. And it's weird, because they have some comedic filler episodes. Why they didn't use those episodes to tell some backgrounds of the characters or animate some scenes from the original manga? Wasn't it volume 11 they cut off completely from the anime? why?

I kinda got engrossed into the arguement that Glvanov and NeCacaluXuxultic was having. And i just had this to say. I think you should just accept that everyone has different opinions glvanov not try and force yours on everyone else and try to make them swallow it cause it won't happen. Besides NeCacaluXuxultic had a pretty valid point to make the cuts in the anime were a shame. In the manga you could understand why things were the way they were.
I've proven my case (as the director Naohito Takahashi has as well) that one does not need to follow the storyline of a manga to make a fantastic anime series. Minor plot points were missed, one major that didn't need to be in it to begin with, that's it.
I've met numerous people who enjoy the anime better than the manga, and vise versa. One can't just prove superiority through preference, it's anime and manga, not science, there are no proven facts to claim.

I have both the Dreamcast Berserk game and the this one for my Japanese PS2. This one is by FAR the better of the two. I only hope they make another...this time for the ps3! Epic...to be sure.

I thought it was a fantastic idea to save all the fantasy mystical creatures until the aftermath of the eclipse. This gave it a more realistic feel to the anime, it gave the mythical creatures of the series a more mysterious background. It's like heaven and hell decending to earth, double thumbs up.
Do I need to know everything about every single character? No. Is it interesting? Yes. Even so, the anime gave more than enough for me. As for being smarter...

@BaggysAnime I'd call him more of a demon slayer, as he doesn't necessarily go after the demons (not the weak ones at least) , they come after him. I don't want to spoil anything, the manga is masterpiece, and it's still on going, you should give it a try.

I've watched the TV series but the manga goes far beyond. It's truly mindblowing and I just can't stop reading. Not only is the story epic, but the illustrations and art direction are superb. Miura is a genius.

Not sure how long the game takes to play through, but i know it looks like it covers up to what has taken me about a good year and half to get read, (Licensing pulling the plug on the scans a few times, etc...).

I don't think an English version was ever released in the West. If your PS2 is modded there might be an image file with a translation patch, but I'm not sure. Never bothered with that sort of thing.

religion in the berserk universe has always been a twisted thing, often with skewed motivation. I'm sure Miura might have been influenced by the state of religion in medieval Europe, which was very often corrupt.

hes always had a very anti religious feeling to his manga, and its not unfounded, while not as dramatic as he depicted, the church has done a great deal of things during early mid evil times that could be said were unethical.

yeah, it is still bad, but back then internal strife to a lot of murder and assasination amoung Priests and Popes for political dominance. Also certain fantatics burned quite a bit of art, most of Bottecelli's work was lost (guy who did Birth of Venus). Only reason these fanatics didnt continue burning art was becuase they challenged the Pope, who shortly after tossed several into a bon fire to set an example. Things arnt good right now, but their better than they used to be.

When i watched the whole series, i remember crying at the part when Gutz finally gets Grifith out of the kingdoms custody, and when Gutz is holding Grifiths frail and broken body, Grifith tries to strangle Gutz as best as he could.
Grifith was blaming what happened to him and his band of the hawks on Gutz leaving, he couldn't say it, but you just knew that's what he tried to strangle him for.

Grifith deserved a much more mortal fate; At least Gutz was the chosen succesor of Nas'Feiratuo.

In response to Kamik001, In my opinion Donovan wasn't a great impact but it did build the kind of life guts had and it also intertwined with gambino a big role in guts' life. And it weren't just that cut, such things as the skull knight, Midlands secret assasins. The queens real motive for assassinating griffith, I found it all very interesting. I do agree with the fight scenes comment you made but their not too bad. The anime was a roar and a few frames of a sword swinging followed by blood.

Manga is much better (anime is still entertaining and good on its own) just like madnlain79 said. In anime they don't explain why Guts hate being touched etc. And it's weird, because they have some comedic filler episodes. Why they didn't use those episodes to tell some backgrounds of the characters or animate some scenes from the original manga? Wasn't it volume 11 they cut off completely from the anime? why?
The anime is still great though, but you can't compare it with the original manga

I kinda got engrossed into the arguement that Glvanov and NeCacaluXuxultic was having. And i just had this to say. I think you should just accept that everyone has different opinions glvanov not try and force yours on everyone else and try to make them swallow it cause it won't happen. Besides NeCacaluXuxultic had a pretty valid point to make the cuts in the anime were a shame. In the manga you could understand why things were the way they were.

I've proven my case (as the director Naohito Takahashi has as well) that one does not need to follow the storyline of a manga to make a fantastic anime series. Minor plot points were missed, one major that didn't need to be in it to begin with, that's it.
I've met numerous people who enjoy the anime better than the manga, and vise versa. One can't just prove superiority through preference, it's anime and manga, not science, there are no proven facts to claim.

ALso, I never said I was fluent..but I DO know enough to get by.. since SPANISH is my native tongue..it's easy for me to learn italian, french, and portugese...to me..they are all the same. I understand MOST of Catalan and I understand some Romansch....I don't "speak" them but understand them. I study foreign languages so I don't need an idiot like you telling me otherwise... The ONLY language with a more difficult grammar than Spanish that I know of is Maya...and I gave that shit up 'cause it was hard (well that and becuase my ancestors were mostly Pipil :P). Vietnamese has the hardest pronunciation..so unless you know one of the 2...i'm not impressed :)

Sigh, "ga" or "wa" refers in Japanese to be the equivalent of "am" in English or "are". I was simply using the literal translation if you could even understand that, obviously I don't speak like a raging homoerotic Spanish fob.

I have both the Dreamcast Berserk game and the this one for my Japanese PS2. This one is by FAR the better of the two. I only hope they make another...this time for the ps3! Epic...to be sure.

The only thing that makes the manga version of the Golden Arc better is the fact that Skull Knight is there. Other than that my opinion is that the anime had a far better character development base which brought me to become closer than I had to the manga version of the characters.

Actually, I'm Metizo. You're assuming that I always prefer the manga which is not true since I prefer Detective Conan anime over the manga and Dragonball ANime over the manga as well. He MANGA for berserk is a LOT better than the Anime becuase it goes in DEEPER into the storyline..same goes for Hajime no Ippo and other Mangas. You're the one who's illogical, not me. People like you prefer to watch the action secnes (which I don't blame you since the action scenes are a LOT better in anime.

Actually, you're a mental chimp. I assume on proper grounds. Because usually only complete morons would back a manga for reasons they don't even have grounds to defend on.
The storyline hardly went deeper during the manga, the exact same things happen, only a few unnecessary plot points were taken out, along with Skull Knight (who didn't need explaining in the first place because the anime didn't even get that far).
Why in god's name would I prefer action scenes, Miura depicts them just fine.

The ONLY thing I liked about the manga is that they didn't take out the ending where Casca got violated by Griffith. You have a valid point on the AUDIO but small parts DO MATTER! It ALWAYS does. That small part explains why Guts don't like to be touched. You talk intelligently but you're not smarter than me..that's for sure (don't fuck with nerds :P)

I thought it was a fantastic idea to save all the fantasy mystical creatures until the aftermath of the eclipse. This gave it a more realistic feel to the anime, it gave the mythical creatures of the series a more mysterious background. It's like heaven and hell decending to earth, double thumbs up.
Do I need to know everything about every single character? No. Is it interesting? Yes. Even so, the anime gave more than enough for me. As for being smarter...

There are some things that don't need explination, it leaves more to the imagination. If I wanted a Berserk encyclopedia, I'd go buy one.
