kids are hyper, it's natural. Let this kid get older before you start ramming adhd meds down his throat. Tell the teacher that kids are supposed to act that way, if she still thinks he is problematic, might need a little therapy or coaching, but certainly not drugs. Age 16-18 is the minimum age in my mind to let them have speed :P
I've always wondered what it would be like to be in the mind of someone with NO mental disorders of any kind. And yet the same goes for everyone I meet. "Hey Matt, I REALLY want to know what goes on in your head."
oh course he feels normal... BECAUSE he is Normal. Its society that can not handle kids witjha diffrences.. ITS not medicine its a psychotropic drug. he is an a intelligent kid.. stop drugging him,
@colbour as someone with add i can tell you without drugging him he will probably never complete a test in his life and therefore be screwed by society
@colbour ADD and ADHD are both the cause of chemical inbalances in the frontal area's of the brain that causes a child to act and think irrational there for when the child was asked what his brain and body feel like to him and he states "a very hyper fire" that is basically exactly what it is because due to the chemical imbalance he lacks the ability to control certain thoughts or actions that most individuals would be able to otherwise control. The pills help his brain to maintain focus
on both physical and mental activities and long tasks it helps even out the chemical imbalance temporarily. Individuals with ADHD will most likely never lead a normal life style without a form of medication. A child who suffers from ADHD is less likely to keep important relationships with other individuals, they are more likely to lash out unexpectantly and potentially hurt those around them or themselfs. As the child gets older without treatment the signs and symptons get worse eventually
the disorder takes over and the individual will no longer have any control over their symptons. My 2 year old son has all the signs of ADHD if I go based off the actions of my younger brother who was diagnosed at the age of 2 with ADHD and ODD. Some of these signs include inability to sit or stand still (in other words a portion of the childs body has to be continuesly moving even while trying to sleep) inability to pay attention or listen. Lack of respect towards female authorities,
violent or otherwise inappropriate behaviours such as hitting biting screaming swearing, easily irratated and aggrivated, as well as high matabolisms and inability to adapt to change, constant need for reassurance because they themselfs are not sure as to why the things in their lifes are happening. Clumsiness such as continuesly hurting themselfs by falling tripping or doing sometihng on impulse that is dangerous. Also with an ADHD child u will notice that COFFEE has the opposite affect on
the individual, rather then making the person hyper and energized, it drains the individual and causes the person to become calm and more able to focus, which is the same thing in which riddilon or dexedrin does to a child or adult with ADHD it is because the chemicals in the coffee in which to us would be an upper and would create the chemical responces in our bodies and brain needed to wake up
what stupid questions the woman is asking.. How do you feel having ADHD?? what an idot. The meds calm him down because its not for the kid its for the parents and teachers beacuse they want robots. ADHD is a modern term for indiviualism and whimsy
@colbour no its not i have add, i'm 19, it's a real problem for example i should be doing homework right this second but i got of task almost and hour ago.
how can a kid like him having adhd tell the difference between what he's feeling like compared to normal? he doesn't know what's normal, he's been feeling like this all his life...
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Hey if this comment is able to get... 15 likes I will throw a roll of huge toilet paper at my teacher 20 likes I will throw a water bottle at my teacher 30 likes I will throw a snowball at my teacher 40 likes I will throw a bowl of dirt at my teacher 50 likes I will throw a condom filled with milk at my teacher I'll get a friend to record me doing it and upload the video to youtube. Yes first, teachers, parents, and doctors let the kids be kids! not because they are smarter and more energized they have a disorder. Yes the majority may not have that energy, so what? it does not mean that when someone is above average or normal then he/she has a disorder? I think is the lack of understanding and tolerance that created all this ADD and ADHD thing. Respect these kids and stop medicating them really!
Im 19 and I have been diagnosed with adhd since I was 5 so I easily relate. One alternative thing that has helped my adhd is Brazillian Jiu-jitsu wich I joined a year ago and I haven't been on meds since. I would just like to say this is by far the realist video on youtube for adhd Ethan diserves a big gold medal for it :) everything he said was 100% true and he couldn't have said it any better! You Rock Ethan!!!! Know your the coolest big guy!!!
Thanks to everyone for their comments about this short movie I made with my son. I would much rather that simply changing his diet would cure all of the behaviors that make him different/irritating/annoying to others. In this video, he is on his medication. Without his medication, he would not have been able to sit in a chair for an extended period of time to talk with me. This makes education and friendship challenging. Thank God he is bright. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
Their is no such thing as ADHD! Just a bunch of people that doesn't have self control or manners. Stop poisoning our kids with meds that turning our kids into zombies.
I've had ADHD ever since I was a little boy. It's gotten a lot better as I grow older. Try changing up his diet. We are, What we eat. More fruits, Vegetables and good quality Meats. Take the simple carbs out. No more breakfast cereal, White bread, Bagels, Cookies, ext. You get the idea. It's funny how the world works. They'll sell you anything to make money. Even if it kills us. - Image Imagine Music
What does ADHD even mean anymore? Why can't all that energy inside you just be a by-product of BEING A KID? It's just an excuse to get them on harmful pills to get them in a mood everyone ELSE approves of. That destroys your childhood, dude! I know! Me and my two brothers all have ADHD and our meds fucked all of us up!
@Moshikashitenai Not really. Most people with ADHD have problems with school and social connections. It's not only the hyperactivity that the children (or in some cases adults) experience. They can not focus on things that are important. In most cases, you can opt out of medication and go for non-medicated therapy.
Having energy when you are a kid is not wrong. Having too much energy that affects daily life that may persist till adulthood is a sign that something is very wrong.
@Aviatorsmith Now, see, I had a totally different experience with my ADHD. I could focus on things, but only 1 or 2 things at a time, but when I focused on a task, I never quit until I was done, even in school. I have more knowledge, wisdom, and understanding than most people I know, yet I sucked at school because I was disinterested in most subjects I was forced to go through and just didn't do the assignments.
@Moshikashitenai My son tells me that he needs only one step at a time if I give him a direction. He has trouble holding more than one in his memory, though he is very smart and can remember things that are of interest to him. I think you are right that ADHD is a gift in many ways it is just not thought of as a gift in typical schools. There are too many children to educate to really accommodate for bright kids like Ethan.
@Aviatorsmith School is all wrong. You should be able to learn what you're interested in, not what the school board forces you to go through. For example, English class. I know English already; I can write in English and express myself with English. Why for the love of God do I need to take 12 years of it? I want to learn other languages! I want to study math and physics! I want to study logic and psychology and philosophy! Not stupid fucking English and shop and whatever else!
@Moshikashitenai I am in the process now of looking into school alternatives for Ethan. It is sad that there are so few options available to people whose children do not fit nicely in a box. What if you are academically gifted by socially and emotionally immature? Where do you fit?
@Aviatorsmith THAT'S why most ADHD kids suck at school. They think school sucks because they're not interested in enough things that the school offers. Everyone should take things they're interested in for a job that they're interested in in the future instead of learning a bunch of crap that fills their brain with fluff.
@Moshikashitenai It doesn't explain you bashing up medicinal science. I find your argument logical (not the one where you were raging) and I had predominantly inattentive ADHD when I was young. I scored extremely high in an IQ test and I mostly had the same experiences as you. Yearning to learn more of physics and not the humanities. Now i'm with a PhD in astrophysics but I still need SSRI's to regulate my mood. It's crippling to live with hormonal imbalances.
@Aviatorsmith Bashing medicinal science wasn't my aim, that's why that didn't explain that. I was talking about putting kids on pills to get the kids in a mood that everyone else approves of. Molding the child to the liking of others. I wasn't commenting just to bash psychiatry, even though it is a pervasive pseudoscience.
@Moshikashitenai Agreed. The child/teen/adult should be in a mood where he/her can do the best in interpreting information and the things they are good at. Not in a pleasant mood that pleases people around them.
@Moshikashitenai If I could design a dream school it would be hands-on projects that incorporate all academic areas, but the child gets to choose (with some direction) what they want to learn. The only school in our area that really does this is prestigious private school that costs $20,000 per year!
@Aviatorsmith I appreciate your point about ADHD not just being about hyperactivity. It is really about a difficulty in regulating attention, activity level and emotions. My son can go from 0 to 60 in a second and that is to unpredictable for most kids. They don't know if he is going to freak-out, come up with a cool game or just go with the flow at any given moment. Most 9 year olds just don't have the patience for him.
@arterberrya Does your son like skipping steps in homework or daily routines? I used to skip a lot of steps in tasks like math and activities which got me penalised a lot even though my final answer is always correct. I do this as I have horrible short term memory and performing more steps only leads me to get muddled up easier.
@Moshikashitenai This is true too. Who said kids were designed to sit at a desk so many hours a day with all these demands on them anyway. They put more on kids in elementary school now than they ever did 30 years ago. Is everyone thats currently in their 30s now just non-functional? Its ridiculous. They dont want kids to be kids anymore and the drug companies love every second of it....cha-ching.
@sunangel3 Kids are definitely not designed to sit on their butts for hours every day. That destroys their mind and their creativity. Kids are kinetic creatures, they're MEANT to go out and see the world and gather info about their environments to get used to the world they're going to be living in for the next 8 decades. School is the worst place in which to do that. They get burned out on useless structure. What they really need is to sit down and stare at a tree for a few hours.
@sunangel3 And changing the definition of many diseases to include a larger population so that more people can be put on harmful meds is the best way to gain money. I mean that's the reason why 1 in ~100 kids has some form of autism now, the definition of autism was changed. Now 60% of America kids are on some type of med because they were wrongly diagnosed with "autism"
@Moshikashitenai The definition of Autism has changed. It has broadened to being a spectrum of a disorder where an individual can be very high functioning (high IQ) but have social disabilities or be relatively low functioning in cognitive & communication skills. There are no meds that cure Autism, but some meds help with anxiety, aggression, etc., to help children interact in their world.
im adhd and i take meds and they have to be locked up in the back of my pharmacy because it can kill people if u take to many douces but what really sucks is no monsters :( its to much energy for the heart and can hurt u
@minoins Yes, there was a study just done that demonstrated that individuals with ADHD are more creative thinkers than the general population. I think it is because they are always thinking and wondering "what if...?"
I used to have A.D.H.D. It feels like there's ALWAYS a great deal of energy and adrenalin that you HAVE to get rid of. Most kids with A.D.H.D WILL grow out of it, but it takes time and effort. I know EXACTLY what this kid is going through. Good luck, man!
@em91198able Thanks, as his mom, I hope that by his mid-20's he will have grown out of this such that he can begin to regulate his own activity level, emotions and attention on his own without medication.
You ARE normal! please do the research, people. Change their diets to organic, non gmo, no dyes, sugar, caffiene. Exercise , and turn off the tv....this isnot a "disease"- its called "childhood"- I mean no disrespect to this mother, she trusts her Dr, thats normal to do. But in these cases, its dangerous. If not physically, which it is,(again simple research people) Its messin with his esteem- thats plain to see. Please just try another way. Drugs are ALWAYS bad- never a solution. God bless
shut the fuck up u bitch ur so fucking stupid i have adhd and thats not what u have to do just get a perscription for conserda and u can settle down it really helps so shut the fuck up u fucking asshole
I feel really dull at times when I had my meds.. But at the same time I just have these 'numb' feeling apisodes anyway. Weither I'm on my meds or not.
Sorry but this was never around when my Dad was a kid, it come out around the time of parents who did not have strict rules. I am mixed feelings about it. I believe it IS real yet sometimes people abuse it as a excuse for there child's bad behaver. What I seen in your son was someone who actually had the condition yet It was on the news where someone who abuses ADHD that to rob stores and due to the UKs political system he was let off. Yet I see that your son is a good lad. Thanks
Thank you for this video. I am a teacher and have some very promising students that have hyperactivity issues. They are so SMART and I've really wanted to understand what they are going through and what it feels like to have ADHD. If educators understand what's going on in these brilliant young minds, we can approach create a new way of approaching their education. Thanks again!
@Azurelotus You are probably one of the most open minded teachers I have ever read words of on YouTube. I have ADHD, but I'am classified as ADD. The society is oppressing this idea through doctors and the people that see a difference in their children that are medicated for this so called "mental illness." The saying "don't blame the student, blame the teacher." Represents my point exactly. Society would rather see "ADHD" as an illness to medicate and profit off of, rather than realizing that
@Azurelotus My son is in 2nd grade, his teacher this year is doing great with him. She found a reward system in class that appeals to him and stays positive, a simple sticker chart when he completes tasks like hes supposed to, but the chart doesnt emphasize failure with missed stickers, just keeps going and he knows how many he should get each day.(8) He is really smart, just doesnt stay on task or time efficient. She also has a think jar (like a snowglobe) if they need to calm down.

@sunangel3 Cute idea about the snow globe! I think everyone likes looking at them and finds them soothing to watch.
