Japanese language is based on syllables and there are no consonants on their own. In Japanese a consonant is always followed by a vowel. The only sounds that can stand at the end of the word are vowels or a semi-vowel: "n".

Which means that you can make a sound: da, de or do, but you can't just say "d" (it's an example, same goes for any other consonant).

So the Japanese have the tendency of giving in to their habits and just do the same in English :p

I sometimes think about the origins of language and why they are pronounced-written as they are. I consider language as an evolution of basic communication to represent things around us by their individual sounds, but I never seem to put enough thought into figuring out why the pronunciation of Asian cultures seems so different from European cultures. The same can apply to the Middle East. Although, to me it seems that Asia has the largest pronunciation gap from English and Latin based language.
