I didn't think we'd be able to make cap room for Hodgson or Schroeder. The fourth line was a bit shocking, but that Desbiens guy looked good. Bieksa needs a Mithcell-type of player to make up for his defensive deficiencies, and Hamhuis is the fit. $4.2 M for a 5th d-man is a lot (Ballard), and where does
(continuation) that make Salo fit in come the time. Top three lines are set. We'll experiment and tinker with the fourth line. Top four d-man are set. Rome and Alberts as depth guys. Very good forward depth with faceoffs better, along with the PK. With Kesler's influence and two potential 100 point guys on that team, with atleast six or seven 20 goal scorers, with the speed of the first and second lines, good size and skill on the third, and good size and speed on the fourth, and good depth in
(continuation) forward with our prospects, forward isn't an issue. With Hamhuis leading the charge, Bieksa's offensive talent, the excellent pairing of Edler and Ehrhoff, and the depth of Ballard and when he comes back, Salo's shot, defense has been attended to. And there is good depth there with Alberts and Rome. Didn't see Obrien getting traded, but there had to be a sacraficial limb. We have a Vezina calibre goalie in Luongo without the added pressure of being captain, with an AHL top
(continuation) goaltender for backup, goaltending will be improved. No doubt, the Canucks are on the verge of winning the Stanley Cup within three years, maybe two. All that is needed now is the final piece of the puzzle; experience. That will only come with a good team built like this one that can make a few conference final pushes to get it. We're almost there.
That's what our team will look like. The ? could be Hodgson, Schroeder, Rypien, Shirokov. On defense, well, it depends on whether we have Bieksa or not. It could be O'brien or Rome. NOT Alberts. Team looks good.
anyone notice how Hamhuis said he liked how the 'nucks liked to push the cap space to the limit in order to win. Nashville was always price conservative, with 8 M a season in cap space usually. "like to spend their money"
we actually could resign raymond for 3 M and still be 1 K under the cap =) and keep bieksa, but that's highly unlilkely. great signing for the canucks.
He's no Duncan Keith or Chris Pronger, but who is? At this point it's all about depth. Even with Bieksa gone, they'll have 5 or 6 top-4 quality Dman...and SOB and Rome. Is it enough? On paper, with teams like Chicago taking a nose-dive talent and depth-wise, I'd be inclined to say yes.
