Also he's VERY similar to Kien-dono in character (you know... guy that the espada Rukia fought was impersonating), who was Ukitakes Vice-Captain.
@Mattja1 true but in the arrancar arc, ichigo admits to grimmjow that he did come to hueco mundo to kill him, her did come to fight, and if that just so happens to be a way of saving orihime then thats what works, he plans on fighting to protect, but the root of his strength deep down comes from the desire to fight, his instinct as his hollow tries to explain to him when they fight

it says on wiki that zaraki has kinda adopted him into his squad ...hence the battle bettwen him and baldy that zaraki interupted.
