  • thank the Lord it didnt head DIRECTLY toward downtown Birmingham...Thank the higher power for letting it veer north of the original path or else what was otherwise tragic would have been inconceivable

  • Was this an EF-4 or EF-5 tornado when it passed just north of Birmingham?

  • @GillFan26 EF-3 to EF-4

  • yes

  • Does anyone happen to know the meaning of that 204 MPH TVS (tornado vortex signature) message right at the beginning of this clip?

  • @vanni9283 I'm guessing that's a message the NWS in Birmingham sent over NWS Chat based on the shear they measured.

  • @wxworld

    OK, thanks.

  • @wxworld I'm the guy that was driving the StormTrack radar that day, Fred Gossage. That was me sending JP Dice that message without getting away from the computer, to let him know that the NWS had sent that note to us through the NWSChat system.

  • @fgossage Nice Work man. Saved a lot of lives. :)

  • @vanni9283 It was re-organizing and regaining its strength.

  • This event was very overwhelming for me. The amount of debris balls on radar was unbelieveable. This is the super outbreak of my time.

  • @GillFan26 Final storm event data confirms that it actually had more confirmed separate tornadoes than the Super Outbreak of 1974. The latest data shows 199 confirmed tornadoes on April 27th alone. 4/3/74 only had 148. 1974 had more violent tornadoes, but the violent EF4-EF5 tornadoes were concentrated into a MUCH smaller area during this year's event. So.... you're very right about that. This is the Super Outbreak of our time.

  • @fgossage You got that right! There was debris falling from the sky. There was a lot of damage. And, unfortunately there were a lot of deaths.

  • This reminds me of the May 4, 2007. You might remember this date as the Greensburg Tornado.

  • Apparently some dumb nuts can't figure out that mother nature is unpredictable and if they didn't call your exact location you still should seek shelter from an EF5 tornado if your even in the watch box.

  • i live about 500 yards from where it hit in Concord

  • way to be extremely wrong in your guess on where the tornado was going to go. he never once mentions PLEASANT GROVE which was the worst city hit in birmingham.

  • @waltdotklein4 Yes, J-P DOES mention Pleasant Grove.... when he was doing the MicroTrac, that did the storm track down to street level and panned along the track. The tornado was still several minutes away from town when it was mentioned on the track. If someone in Pleasant Grove heard Hueytown and Concord (cities no more than a couple miles away) in the path over and over, but they didn't think they were under the gun, that is their fault. It's called common sense and personal responsibility.

  • @waltdotklein4 they showed on the screen & mentioned pleasant grove was in the path apparently someone needs to learn how to listen

  • @waltdotklein4 & it wasn't the 'worst'.

  • @waltdotklein4

Just because the meteorologist doesn't mention your exact community and you're within the warning polygon, you need to seek shelter anyways.

  • Hi! Good job. My friend and his wife live in The Burmingham and yall know what yall are duing. How high was the BTI? I know people at WSB and they got the same thing. I'm blind and I know about baron radar. Love it. Thanks. Hope to get to chat with yall and I hope to take a trip there to come to visit one day. Also WAGA fox 5 has the same thing but yall and WSB have Duel poll radar.

  • @bigshant2212 That's quite an amazing compliment -- that you're blind and know about Baron :-) I know 2 people who are blind and the remaining senses are extraordinary. They can hear a pin drop from 2 rooms away and can sometimes "feel" tension in a room.

  • Wes: That is a very scary shit, uh, right there, JP.

  • @bakingsodawater- That storm was so strong it began to veer right of the main flow. It was so strong the inflow ripped up trees and ate them.

  • J.P off about 10 miles tornados normally move from southwest to northeast downtown birmingham is due east. never the less is best to warn everybody

  • "Buildings that are missing"...not just damaged or destroyed, but "missing." That's about as scary a report as you could hear.

  • Wow, your viper fast trac was spot on with the track through west Jefferson co. I was in my basement in trussville and missed all this coverage. Thank you, Lord for letting lift once it got near us in the Eastern side of Jefferson Co.

  • Good coverage FOX 6 A+ all the way... I am a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort,Sc and I was streaming this. You helped out a lot for my family in Talladega.

    Thank You

  • ok, did you get those products from baron services? Also how much did they cost? I know the last question seems personal, but, if u want to any you can post on here or you can send me a message through my youtube mail.

  • HAARP.

  • What are u using in this coverage scene? Viper or FasTrac

  • @SuperTornadochaser Both FasTrac and VIPIR are being used. I was the person driving FasTrac that day. I am "Fred", the FOX 6 Weather Watcher from Pell City, AL.

  • Can you put WBRC in your tags? thanks
