I think 99% of people who heard the news, and knew who he was, just thought "Whaaat?". I guess with wondering when Scott Hall is going to pop off with his drug problems, I forget about the other older wrestlers.
When I used to watch Lanny Paffo wrestle I thought he was kinda lame, his poems and how he never really reached the top. However seeing this made me realize what a thought full guy he is. I did not know he was Randy's brother until this day, I never really knew much about the personal lives of the wrestlers back then. Good interview.
Their father was wrestling legend Angelo Poffo. That's how they broke into the business.
PS: There were quite a few unusual family relations within the wrestling industry over the decades. I was shocked when I learned "Warlord" and "Baby Doll" were brother & sister: considering the fact that he towered over her by what looked like about 2 feet and he had about 200 pounds on her, easy.) Having him for a brother, I thought she'd be more the size of Joanie Laurer ("Chyna")
You can really tell how much Lanny loved his big brother. I know people love their siblings, but it's just very beautiful to hear him talk about him like this.
Always love listening to Lanny speak, he's a great guy, and i always liked his Gimmick "The Genius". He always has good things to say about Vince too. So many former wrestlers seem to bash Vince, but Lanny doesn't seem to have a bad word for him. Also, if you enjoyed listening to Lanny , and you haven't already done so, i recommend you watch the Lanny Poffo shoot which is here on youtube.
I met him at a ramada inn.His voice is deep and projects insane lol.He said hello how are you guys doing.Every one in the room said fine and your self? He was only talking to one person lol
Lanny is awesome. I remember when I was a kid watching the TV champ Leaping Lanny Poffo in Atlantic Grand Prix wrestling, teaming with Leo Burke. I was glad to see him as the Genius in the WWF. Thanks for the fond childhood memories.
@Avonidsed Hey, don't forget about the frisbees he used to throw into the crowd back then too upon him reading off one of his many pre-match poems, LOL! :-)
So you wonder...did they have a specific buxom blonde in mind? Fun to think who it might have been if they indeed had someone in mind. I was thinking Missy Hyatt maybe? This is a terriffic interview
I own an actual first run episode of All Stars or main event when randy picked elizabeth as his manager. It was taped off of tv and i have the shows leading up to it also....it was on a compilation tape I bought at an indy show about 10 years ago
@TombstoneInc I barely ever bash anyone on Youtube because it's childish but if you don't think that's Lanny Poffo aka The Genius you are insane or ignorant
Not only does Savage and his brother deserve to be in the WWF Hall of Fame, their father, Angelo Poffo does as well. He was an NWA Chicago US Champ,NWA Tag Champ in Detroit and in Texas Tag Team Champ, and he also held the WWA Tag Team belt several times. For a time he was one half of a team called the Devil's Duo managed by none other than Bobby Heenan. He had a great career and years ago was inducted into the WCW Hall of Fame after managing Macho. RIP Randy and Angelo Poffo
I always liked Lanny. He was a good wrestler and I can't figure out why he didn't become a bigger star.He was the first wrestler I saw in the US who was doing a moonsault. His was kind of different. His feet were on the second and 3rd rope.
this really upsets me. i would expect him to have a speech ready on a scroll. this didnt even rhyme. all jokes aside i havent seen the genius in a long time. glad to see him again, but sucks the reason why. no one will ever forget WM3.

Although Kurt Angle never wrestled the Macho Man Randy Savage in his career, he did pay respects on his twitter account. Kurt should thank Randy for paving the way for wrestlers like Angle, Benoit, Guerrero, Jericho, Kofi, Booker, Otunga, Mysterio, Lethal, Orton, Cena, The Miz, and Del Rio.
Wow, Randy's brother Lanny seems like a kind peace loving man. I would love to have an oppurtunity to shake his hand as well as Macho's if he was still with us today.
Real good! I liked it a lot! Long live the memory of Macho Man Randy Savage, without a doubt, one of the greatest WRESTLING stars of all time! Rest in Peace my friend...
lanny still has that great voice i loved the character of the genius,i loved randy too he will and was already greatly missed, but now were all left knowing we'll never get to say goodbye and thanx, but our love goes out to the poffo family.
WWE has a loooong history of not giving honors to their legends: here are just of few underused and under appreciated: Rowdy Piper, Super Fly Snuka, Jake the Snake Roberts, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Macho Man, Mr. Perfect (offensive how under appreciated this guy was), Big Boss Man. All of the above are worth more in talent than the entire RAW and Smackdown roster combined (excluding Taker of course, he is untouchable, the last of a dying breed)
Out of all the deaths in wrestling this for me was the worst. Im glad he was happy in his personal life but i will always be upset at WWE for blacklisting him for about 10 years.
For about 10 years WWE never mentioned him, or showed him in video packages, DVD's, action figures, video games, HOF etc. despite him being one of top 10 wrestlers who put their company on map.
@nWoWolfpacTV me to ese i had tears when i heard his death really got to me i was a huge fan of him back in wcw 1997 nwo times ;-*( oh yeahh long like da madness
This reporter doesn't know what he's talking about when he mentions Slick among the managers in the WWF in 1985 that bid to be Macho Man's manager. Slick didn't come to the WWF until 1986.
How were they never a tag team, the way the Steiners and even the Harts were?
