  • @ Ronchiii, ACT NOW. with your own two hands, act now. Others will come to act also, with own two hands.

  • LA TIRRA SE PUEDE COMPRAR O ROBAR PERO LA PATRIA NO SE VENDE, REPITO NO SE VENDE!

  • I will translate this and embed it in one of my articles. Thank you for sharing :) It is very important! Long live Mother Earth! :)

  • With limited resources on earth and an ever growing population, these problems will continue. The best long-term control of this problem is population control. But the tax structure in this country and welfare handouts encourages having children. My idea: tax credits for one child only, tax neutral for two kids, tax penalty for three or more. We MUST slow or stop our population growth, as this is a direct result of human 'global swarming'.

  • Right then....someone's going to have to clean up the mess and there's no use putting it off. I think we need to get a load of volunteers, many hands make light work, so they say....... First of all...we need a big boat..........

  • were gonna need a bigger boat.....

  • I'm pretty hopeless about this situation. There is no way that any government will have the means or the inclination to try and fix this problem. And as long as people care more about what they look like and what they are going to buy, no one will want to do anything except the underwhelming minority of environmentally aware citizens.

  • JUST STOP BUYING SHIT YOU DON'T NEED, EVERYONE.

That's the only solution. Every product is surrounded in plastic that fuels this problem.

"Live simply so others can simply live" (Gandhi)

  • Put very well. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to completetly rid one's self of plastic in such an industrialized world. The most feasible solution has to be to minimize use while researching and utilizing alternative resources that are more sustainable.

  • This is a HUGE problem. No wonder fish stocks are shrinking worldwide. The poor critters are choking on our plastic. And the ones we catch and eat transmit the plastic back to us. Kind of poetic justice there. There's a verse in Revelation, chapter 11, verse 18 that resounds in my head every time I realize again how much mankind has screwed up this planet. It says the Lord will, upon His return, "destroy those who destroy the earth'. Now that is poetic Justice with a capital J.

  • anyways. I really love learning about this situation. made me really think about earth and the life that's on it.

personally, I would love to help out and everything, but I don't know where to start. me and my family don't buy bottled water (thank god)

but we do throw away a lot of plastic bags =( we don't know what to do with them. and I would love to pass this video around, but people don't give a shit about things like this. society is pathetic...

  • I don't buy bottled water ... unless I have to. I use a re-usable bottle. It's something everyone can do. I also use the totes in the grocery store. I never see anyone else using them it's sad

  • chill

  • why do you keep telling people to chill? they're just posting their opinions =\

  • I hate mankind.

  • chill out

As a volunteer, I thank you for sharing the video of horrific problems from plastic pollution in our oceans. However, ALGALITA is a NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION that relies on public funding to continue researching and reporting. By ripping off this video you may have deterred funding. This has been viewed over 40K times. ANYONE WHO WISHES TO SUPPORT Algalita, PLEASE donate 10 US Dollars or more to ALGALITA and place "Youtube" in box that reads "How did you hear...". Thanks!

  • One of the best things you can ALL do is stop buying BOTTLED WATER! That contributes SO much to the problem it's not even funny. Only 20% of water bottles are recycled. The USA's water system is highly regulated. It's NOT unsafe to drink. I don't like the taste of my tap water but it's safe and won't hurt me. It has trace minerals and that's where the taste comes from. Drink tap! Think of all the money you will save, too! People complain about gas prices but buy bottled water.

  • You are totally right!! Think of all the fuel expended shipping bottled water across continents. Water is a very limited resource!

  • this is absolutely heartbreaking. i feel awful for contributing to this problem with my water bottles and shopping bags. i definitely going to be more mindful in the future and spread the word about this critical problem.

  • the plastic is destructable but not degradable; it will be there, fragmenting, FOREVER. And the currents bring it back to us.

I must conclude the lord god granted souls to the plastics, and is sending eternal plastic messiahs onto our shores to tell us how stupid we are...

  • Some one should dump toxic waste down your throat and see how you like it!

  • this is the problem with SO MANY PEOPLE! SOOOOO NEGATIVE, "well it's the way it is nothing we can do"... selfish, selfish! This planet has done nothing but give us life and what do we do??? Suffocate it in plastic trash! We can fix things if we try our f'n hardest, but people are so lazy, "plastic shopping bag is there and easy... so why try? Take a cloth bag with me... that hard..." and if we don't we don't deserve this wonderful planet that used to be paradise. Till people f@$ed it up!

  • @stephyadele yeah or you can cut down trees that the planet desperately needs to make paper bags

  • hope im not doubling up here..anyway...if you havent already, read "the world without us" good section on the gyre...

  • i hope we all die and our terrible legacy is lost forever

  • You wanna lead by example, jiggyboy69? No -- I thought not(!)

    Any SENSIBLE answers considered.

  • Where u can find it in google earth?

  • Wow someone has done a great job of covering this "Eight continent" because I barely heard of it today! I found it in Google Earth.

  • Humans SUCK. Maybe there will be a plague that will ease the human burden on the Earth. Either that, or people are going to start having to care and ACT NOW.

    We'll see...

  • I assume you will be conveniently immune...

  • plastic is in just about everything so get used to that fact. its cheap to make and use, so its not going anywhere. whoever says they wont use plastic, youll find 500 other companies that will. this problem will never go away. youll have to accept shorter and warmer winters every year till one day there will be no such thing as snow. welcome to the new world kids. have fun out there!!!!!

  • I barely see snow here in Georgia as it is. The first time I saw snow was in my child hood, and even then it was minimal, not even enough to make a snow angel, but I loved it to death.

It hasn't snowed that I can remember since.

I'd hate to sound selfish but why has everyone taken this from me?

  • Who's a good source for sturdy canvas shopping bags?

  • It will take all of us to reduce the plastic in our oceans. We all live upstream.

  • Either we hold the multinati0nal c0rporations accountable for their global pollution or we kill destroy the entire planet and thus ourselves.

  • this hurts.

  • I hate plastic!

  • Quite distressing, makes me sad. It's only going to get worse too, isn't it?

  • We're farked. We have to go out there and clean this up!!!! or we're doomeD!!!!!

  • We should all kill ourselves in the ocean to feed the dying ecosystem and pay for our crimes.

  • This brings a tear to my eye. It frickin' sucks. We're all to blame.

  • Excellent - Awareness is the right thing. Being aware of these things hopefully will make us understand that it is man-made shit out there that will eventually end up with us when we consume the fish of the oceans.

  • not to be a tree hugger but people act like the earth is going to be here for ever but it wont if people dont stop stuff like this.

  • in about 500 years the surviving humans think back how stupid we´ve been in these days.!!!!!!!!!11111111einseinseins

  • lol we could say that about the last 500 years as well :|

  • think about how much plastic a whale must eat.

  • I can't believe people are still believing this silly messages...

  • How the hell does all that stuff get in the water anyways... there must be mass dumping or something because i've never thrown anything plastic in the ocean... or anything for that mater... dunno where it goes after the red recycle bins on my streetcorner

  • just because YOU don't throw trash to the ocean doesn't mean that billions of people don't throw trash into the rivers, oceans, lakes, roads... This small plastic particles may have reached the ocean by air, flying from as far as from waste landfills and so. Also, not every quarter of sewer water goes to water processing plants. Also remember there are countries that don't treat their waste waters, etc, etc, etc...

  • yeh... honestly when you think about it, there are places which pollute more that have less population than we do. they gotta get this stuff out to people who still havent been taught the concept of recycling... 'cause if they don't, it won't matter if our pollution rate drops to zero. the world is still apparently f***ed... although there are some aspects like global warming that i think are pretty overstated as our fault and are really mostly natural cycles

  • yeah... that's true. i know friends who throw stuff out incorrectly sometimes and if i'm honest... i have thrown things made of paper like napkins and sucker sticks out the window in the past. but those end up dissolving or in the storm drains and eventually the treatment plant down the street. because my city gets water from runoff because we have been in a drought in the summer for something like the past 4 years

  • Not too sure about way out in the middle of the ocean but the main culprit near our shorelines is sewage. Hear advisories on contaminated beaches in your area much? THey are even talking about making an ocean water treatment plant to produce as drinking water because of the massive drought here in Southern Cali. I don't think I have much faith in the water...

  • i just dont understand how people can joke about what we are doing to planet we call home!!!.

please be responsible about your trash.!!!!

  • FUCK OFF CUNT

  • I remember the awesome Carl Sagan describing, in simple terms, that if you looked at the age of the earth as a calendar mankind arrived on the earth in the last 30 seconds of December 31st. One thing we are really good at is destruction but you reap what you sow.

  • fuck you

    ur a waste of life

    duesh wod

  • i can survive on burgers, no need for fish imo

  • Man o!

  • As someone said, this is very depressing. We need to begin to ask some tough questions about were mass consumption is leading us?

  • Bloody hell, this is depressing !. Plastic is the work of the devil !. It's choking the oceans, blowing over the countryside, it invades everywhere.EVERYBODY should recycle plastic...no excuses. Now I know why I don't want kids, what the hell are we going to pass on ?.

  • Thank you for the vid I encourage u all to try and do something to help are enviroment and stop this kind of stuff

  • hang on,,just realised after my previous comment,,,maccy d's already do that don't they!

  • We are the only race that can save other species. think about it. it starts with you.

  • im pretty sure plastic is a main component in the fabrication of the boat they use for their research.

  • well yes, but it isn't in 1000's of tiny fragments,,a fish or bird is hardly going to mistake a boat for some plankton and swallow it whole is it!

  • small bits came from somewhere...that was my point..

  • true bossmantd,,it is a shame everything is made out of plastic but economics rules the world! how cool would it be if they made stuff like playstations from wood! ok, they would only be able to produce 1 a day and the price would be £2000 each,,,but they would at least not end up as tiny fragments in the sea! Feel so sorry for whales and stuff, it's nto liek they can pick the bits out with thier fingers! we wouldn't like it if somebody sprinkled a load of crap in our food!

  • Perhaps you do not have children, or do not care if your children or grandchildren will see birds.. Perhaps you want them to eat plastic too.. good luck

  • education is the key. keep up the good work.

  • We have got to change how we do things!

  • the only way anything can change is if the human race were to vanish from the surface of the earth.

  • If we don't change the earth will hit the reset button, that is for sure. However, we have to try and we have to respect the earth. The best place to start is with yourself.
