1st time I heard this song was in the 90'z all fuckt on pcp and thinking this song is at least an hour long, and when it peeked at the end I had to hear the song again it was like my trip would end if I didn't.
Ask anyone if they know James, maybe they'll mention Laid if you starting singing it. (Maybe they'll know it from American Pie.) At least where I from, it's like they never existed.
Great track! Remember playing it when it was just released on a pirate I useta jock on during the summer of '92, Sunset in Dublin. Ustea get requests from Newport! Anyway, bought Seven that year and also really liked another track from that album, Sound. Mesmerising!
I love how all of us well not all but most know this song from the x-files!! hahaha well that was where i first heard it and wow loved it from the start!!!
I was one of those scientists and can attest to the veridical nature of the above statement. As a matter of fact, one of the corroborated sideeffects is that you may find yourself humming and wooohooo-eing at the bus stop later on.
I think, though I've been married for some years now, this may be, among many other things, the most liberating break up song as well as a social awakening song.
When you let me fall, grew my own wings, now I'm as tall as the sky
When you let me drown, grew gills and fins, now I'm as deep as the sea
When you let me die, my spirit's free, there's nothing challenging me
This is the most complete song EVER. The lyrics are as deep as your imagination and research into reality permit.
In these "troubled" times, they are more valid than ever.
It now seems incredible that in a mere decade the entire music scene, and public at large, have become totally dumbed down. I suppose every generation has been thinking the same thing for the past 300 years...
Thank God for James - an oasis of pure talent in a sea of total shit.
haha same thing happened to me, except I've never heard of James before. I'm watching the episode right now, I just paused it to find out what this song is. I also completely forgot that Jack Black was in this episode..
there are some amazing tunes to be found throughout the x files. i remember finding out about about this great little band called nick cave and the bad seeds lol from one second season episode. you just gotta give it to chris carter he's got great musical sense and he knows exactly when to use a good licensed song instead of the the signature x files music(also great)to really highlight the scene. jack black being fried to filter's "hey man nice shot" is a good example.
Masterpiece. Literally a contender for the most complete song EVER.
The lyrics are still 100% relevant (more so, given all the shit going on in the world and people's ignorance and apathy), and musically this song has so much energy, integrity, class and depth, that this is the seminal James song for me.
Tim Booth, Larry Gott and Jim Glennie, an oasis of talent in a desert of mediocrity and cynical popularism in music.
ha ha, exactly the same chords as tomorrow at the start., i never noticed before.
james are so cool though. really simple stuff but really effective, one of my favorite bands of all time, just wish they would come bck to manchester a bit more instead of living in L.A.
Agree with that :) people used to rush up with oxygen masks as they thought I had a medical problem when I danced...but with James it makes you not give a shit ;)
I think you will find they formed in Manchester and were first signed to Factory records, manchester along with Joy division, New order and the Happy Mondays, therefore I'd class them to be part of the Madchester era. Monkey Boy!!
seven is the best album james ever made... and ring the bells... the best song! a song about what we can do when we are awake to the world! I'm 32 and i grow with this song since my 16...
Finally i found this song, i knew it only from the Xfiles DPO episode, i love that episode, hes playing one my favorite games, SEGAS VIRTUA FIGHTER!! I love this song, i will buy it.
What the hell? I am exactly the same, HAHA! That episode rocks, right? :P You don't need to buy it man, I'll send you it. BTW, are you a massive fan of The X-Files?
You will send me this song?? No its ok, i always order cds and dvds that are not available in the shop. i still havent bought it tho.,.. And yes, The Xfiles is my favourite tv show, I own all episodes on dvd, sadly my season 8 is not that limited edition version, but a normal boxed.... But i love the xfiles, i dont buy action figures n posters or anything. I love xfiles
The live verison played in the X-files episode D.P.O is the best thing James has ever created. Served as sort of a soundtrack for my younger years. Never quite got the rest of their material.
I had him over me, yes, over like 1 meter over. It was the wembley arena, and he was hanging from wires while singing.. It was one of the best performances ever. Ive seen them several times live. They are great, and this song is probably my favourite ever.
You have to read this!! you won't believe it!!! don't stop now!! make a wish - - - - - - - . . . . . Now that you have your wish it will happen! in exclatly 4 days. just copy this and paste it to 4 videos!! only one wish use it wisely and it WILL HAPPEN!!! but if you break the chain your wish will be the opposite
Awesome awesome awesome song!!! One of my favorite James tunes, that ending is SO climactic! Thank you a million times over for uploading the video, lennie3000. :)
