  • saw this live at the parr hall warrington..........best group and best song ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When they had hair!! loved the live show in Brixton last year, come back to London 2010 guys...

  • I must say I like his music

  • The moment this song ever plays on my car radio I immediately stop driving and get out of the car. Otherwise I might get electrocuted.

  • @wikipediafollower

jack black's finest moment was the scared / sinister "you shouldn't'a done that man..."

    so fricking awesome. :)

  • For me James are the greatest band to come out of Britain...just stunning and so incrediblery underrated by the clueless British medai!

  • The world for that matter

  • D.P.O.

  • @spangojoe

that was and is my favourite X-Files moment. Awesome.

  • 1st time I heard this song was in the 90'z all fuckt on pcp and thinking this song is at least an hour long, and when it peeked at the end I had to hear the song again it was like my trip would end if I didn't.

  • Same here just without the pcp = )

  • Pure, original musical bliss!! I love this song. Thankyou James for bringing this into my life. Will never tire of hearing this!!

  • underappreciated band can be an over used term, but i truly believe James embody the whole concept

  • Ask anyone if they know James, maybe they'll mention Laid if you starting singing it. (Maybe they'll know it from American Pie.) At least where I from, it's like they never existed.

  • " Yeah we used to stop everything we were doing to sing this song all the time in college" talking about "Laid"

"Oh so you know who James is?"

    "James who?"

  • D.P.O

  • Such a great song! When I heard it watching x-files i loved it immediately! and wow it was cray to see a young Jake Black in the episode!

  • Yeah, D.P.O., season 3.

  • Same here! :)

    Great song.

  • Great track! Remember playing it when it was just released on a pirate I useta jock on during the summer of '92, Sunset in Dublin. Ustea get requests from Newport! Anyway, bought Seven that year and also really liked another track from that album, Sound. Mesmerising!

  • Love this song. Sure sounds a lot like "New Dawn Fades" by Joy Division

  • Wake the town everyone is sleeping

    xoxoxo

  • I love how all of us well not all but most know this song from the x-files!! hahaha well that was where i first heard it and wow loved it from the start!!!

  • An extremely underappreciated band. This is definitely one of my all time favorite songs.

Great to see some DPO love as well. One of the best X-files episodes and my favorite X-files openning scene.

  • The most complete spiritual song for me. :)

  • whoooo, x-files

  • when you let me fall, grew my own wings, now I'm as tall as the sky

  • I first heard this song on x-files and loved it!

  • DPO!!!

  • great lyrics

  • James at their very best..an awesome song. Powerful and energetic. Simply pure class!!

  • Im 25yo but James are my kings of kings.

  • whats the song that goes "the bells keep ringing and hmmmm and the lonleeeyy world"

  • Wake the town,

    Everyone is sleeping

  • I'll bet anyone $100.00 that they can't sit totally still....while this video is playing

Unless your slipping into a coma....otherwise the bet stands...Jimi...

  • carn't be done...scientists have had people try it ,its not happening

  • I was one of those scientists and can attest to the veridical nature of the above statement. As a matter of fact, one of the corroborated sideeffects is that you may find yourself humming and wooohooo-eing at the bus stop later on.

  • Will forever make me think of The X-Files, "D.P.O"!

  • wave a flag you should be ridiculed,

wave a religion you should be shunned,

wave a car you should be ashamed

  • I Know what I'm here For... 4 this music!!!

  • Wake the town - act personally peeps

  • ooo

    ooo

    cool

    cool

  • not a chance, they will end us all either from their own bombs or friendly zionist bombs

  • Got to keep awake to whats happening....

Very profound. Hopefully America has awoken at last....

  • I think, though I've been married for some years now, this may be, among many other things, the most liberating break up song as well as a social awakening song.

When you let me fall, grew my own wings, now I'm as tall as the sky

When you let me drown, grew gills and fins, now I'm as deep as the sea

When you let me die, my spirit's free, there's nothing challenging me

  • this was mind blowing live...

  • I totally agree. It is fucking awesome.

    Hymn for the free.

  • From another place.

  • This is the most complete song EVER. The lyrics are as deep as your imagination and research into reality permit.

In these "troubled" times, they are more valid than ever.

It now seems incredible that in a mere decade the entire music scene, and public at large, have become totally dumbed down. I suppose every generation has been thinking the same thing for the past 300 years...

Thank God for James - an oasis of pure talent in a sea of total shit.

  • I also, first heard this song on the x-files. Great episode with upcoming stars Jack Black and Giovanni Ribisi

  • Great! just great!!!

  • i like james also. many great songs this band lol.

  • I adore this band. Idols.

  • Quality tune, brings back great memories. Proper band....

  • i'll go with that..peace

  • One of my best bands ever, fucking Tim is great, the whole crew, had to be brittish....

  • hell yea

  • What to say?? James´s Awsome

  • don,t know them beatiful voice

  • AHA!

I just watched the X Files episode "D.P.O" which featured this song.

And googled the lyrics and came up with this, only to find its a fave indie band of mine!

    wooo

  • hahaha same! what a strange episode

  • haha same thing happened to me, except I've never heard of James before. I'm watching the episode right now, I just paused it to find out what this song is. I also completely forgot that Jack Black was in this episode..

  • lol- i headr that so many times from people lol- who watched that episode and then loved james from there on in.

  • there are some amazing tunes to be found throughout the x files. i remember finding out about about this great little band called nick cave and the bad seeds lol from one second season episode. you just gotta give it to chris carter he's got great musical sense and he knows exactly when to use a good licensed song instead of the the signature x files music(also great)to really highlight the scene. jack black being fried to filter's "hey man nice shot" is a good example.

  • Jack Black as the scared friend in DPO was a highlight. He TOTALLY sold the DPO power in the opening scene. It was awesome.

  • got to be happy with that..................

  • beer4ssas if i had ant poetry in my soul id have said exactly that

  • Cheers wally4, I do like beer, me.

  • Masterpiece. Literally a contender for the most complete song EVER.

The lyrics are still 100% relevant (more so, given all the shit going on in the world and people's ignorance and apathy), and musically this song has so much energy, integrity, class and depth, that this is the seminal James song for me.

Tim Booth, Larry Gott and Jim Glennie, an oasis of talent in a desert of mediocrity and cynical popularism in music.

  • it is a beutiful song indeed, a little bit suicidal also.

  • Super Song...

  • no labels

    beer4james

  • This was the tune that got me into James back when I was a teenager. It still sounds better than 95% of the music that is on American radio today.

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM IN SEPTEMBER!!!!!

  • So djmertz, please film the gig and post on YouTube. I wanna see how they go down in America.

This song is just SO awesome.

  • tune-a rooney

  • Love this song

  • anyone else think how far we've come by matchbox twenty sort of rips off the start of this song?

  • I think they are pretty similar, but only for like ten seconds of the intro.

  • Esta cancion es de la puta madre

  • wow i love this song xxx

  • When you let me fall

    Grew my own wings

Now Im as tall as the sky

    When you let me drown

    Grew gills and fins

Now Im as deep as the sea

    When you let me die

    My spirits free

    Theres nothing challenging me

  • Madchester Magic from the 'good ol days' The best of James Was and still is one of the best albums I've ever bought.

  • There not from manchester u tit they are from warrington.

  • I think you will find they formed in Manchester and were first signed to Factory records, manchester along with Joy division, New order and the Happy Mondays, therefore I'd class them to be part of the Madchester era. Monkey Boy!!

  • I have an acoustic version of this song that just can't be beat. No idea when or where it was performed though... grabbed it off napster years ago.

    X-files rules.

  • is there anyway you could pass on the mp3 of this acoustic version you have?

  • I'll see what I can do.

  • does anyone else find this song iconoclastic and anti-clerical? this is the first time i've seen the video and i think so.
