the problem with making airsoft guns certain colors is that real guns could be painted those colors and then you have a problem because nobody will think that they are real.
Well I had an idea that I just wanted to throw out there to see what people thought. What if we took the outer barrel and cut an inch off the right and left side (but at different areas) to expose the inner barrel, the put foam stoppers between the inner and outer barrels right in front of the internals of the gun. This way you are able to tell if this is and airsoft gun or a real fire arm without sacrificing the overall look of the gun.
It's sad how the major paintball distributors now support this bill because they cut a deal making it so that they would not have to change anything about how they make their guns. They were allied with the airsoft distributors until the deal. Those companies are all backstabbing cowards.

I am anti SB798. The problem with SB798 is that airsoft manufacturers produce and sell black flashhiders and mock surpressors. Then people replace their orange tip which is required by FEDERAL LAW. When this leads to problems with law enforcement people complain that laws like this have been suggested. The way to avoid any problems in the future is to keep the orange tip ON. I can't tell you how many of my friends have taken off their orange tips and this is the True problem.

We got a similar thing in UK - Violent Crime Reduction Act but airsofters have a specific defence. In a free society, rights and privileges will be abused by some. There is no full solution to it whilst still maintaining said free society, there is a certain level of trust that must be imparted on the citizens and there will always ALWAYS be those who break that trust. What's stopping a criminal from spraypainting a neon colored airsoft gun with black paint. I mean, from a distance, anything remotely the shape of a gun, and is black, looks like a real gun. SB798 isn't going to do anything, all that it is going to do is create more issues, like another way for criminals to commit crime, as Bob mentioned in the video. The color doesn't make them safer. I am 110% against SB798.
Would it not be a better idea to restrict the sale of these guns instead of the guns themselves? Maybe if something like the British UKARA law would work better, so regular airsofters can have realistic guns while 13 year old kids who haven't skirmished a day in their lives can have neon guns.

Film makers like me will be effected also, this law will make it very annoying to shoot videos that include SB798 compliant airsoft weapons. It will look hideous, and will make it extremely hard to make a film including guns, with realistic looking weapons, we will have to basically give up on making films that include weapons.
you can paint a blaze orange tip any real firearm, or cover the blaze orange tip on an airsoft gun as it is now without this bill. the entire bill is moot because of that. same with the vast majority of the points made in the video.

This law will actually make it easier for criminals to use REAL firearms out in public. Your run of the mill thug on the street won't go through the trouble of putting an orange tip on his real firearm just to get the police off his back. Now he can go down to the store, buy a can of paint, and run around with a bright orange Glock. I understand officers will protect themselves from anything that is pointed towards them that looks like a real gun, but will they really shoot on a nerf gun?
It's really important to remember that the situation where the teen got shot happened through no fault of the product (the airsoft gun). It was the fault of the USER, and so the USER should be the one who laws get passed about, not the product. Like EliteWarfare says about the UK, it's the USER of the product who has to get a skirmish license in order to not have the gun colored. If we do have to have a bill in the end, that's how it should be. Make the USER take a gun safety class or something.

@cripplefinger Doesn't work. YouTube uses some kind of algorithm so that it randomizes what clicks can be counted. That way several people on your computer can contribute to more views, but if you start spamming F5 it won't work 100% of the time, more like 1%.

The bill would allow "normal" airsoft guns to be sold to people who can prove they are going to use it for regulated or certified sporting competition, much like the VCRA does in the UK.

This law is just like the Assault Weapons Ban. The ban will only affect law-abiding citizens.
As for the incident this was made for, I don't feel bad for the guy. Don't point a gun (or something that looks like a gun) at police, don't get shot. Frankly, he should just be thankful he's alive.
I don't think cops would act any differently at all whether or not they had a colorful gun pointed at them or one that was completely black. Their training kicks in either way & they'll still treat that neon airsoft gun as any other possible real-steel firearm.

Film makers like me will be effected also, this law will make it very annoying to shoot videos that include SB798 compliant airsoft weapons. It will look hideous, and will make it extremely hard to make a film including guns, with realistic looking weapons, we will have to basically give up on making films that include weapons.

you can paint a blaze orange tip any real firearm, or cover the blaze orange tip on an airsoft gun as it is now without this bill. the entire bill is moot because of that. same with the vast majority of the points made in the video.

This law will actually make it easier for criminals to use REAL firearms out in public. Your run of the mill thug on the street won't go through the trouble of putting an orange tip on his real firearm just to get the police off his back. Now he can go down to the store, buy a can of paint, and run around with a bright orange Glock. I understand officers will protect themselves from anything that is pointed towards them that looks like a real gun, but will they really shoot on a nerf gun?

It's really important to remember that the situation where the teen got shot happened through no fault of the product (the airsoft gun). It was the fault of the USER, and so the USER should be the one who laws get passed about, not the product. Like EliteWarfare says about the UK, it's the USER of the product who has to get a skirmish license in order to not have the gun colored. If we do have to have a bill in the end, that's how it should be. Make the USER take a gun safety class or something.

Although the creation of SB798 seems to be an overreaction or a publicity thing to show everyone that they're getting rid of a huge problem. Even if it does pass (hope to god it doesn't) I'm sure 90% of airsofters will still have metal bodied guns. I'm Canadian and mine+people i've played with guns are pure black+metal bodied o.o
