@H9MD43 Yes, you're right. I play it in Open G (DGDGBD) tuning with the capo on the 2nd fret, which puts it in the key of A. The original is in the key of G however. I don't actually play it as per the original. I've mixed the 2 guitar parts, for fun, playing the melody on the first 2 lines "The hands on the clock keep turning round/ They point to the time of the day". For the last 2 lines, I go down rather than up following the harmony part which is sung and, I assume, played by Dave Cousins.
This is really good. I'd only heard of Sandy Denny bc of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" but I'm so glad that I happened onto this song that you make sound so good. I've listened to this at least 10 times in the past few days. Haven't heard the original Sandy Denny/Strawbs version yet to see how it differs from your cover bc I can't find it here on YouTube. Can s/o please post that, too? LiteGauge, thanks for doing what you do and sharing it with the rest of us.
We miss Sandy Denny, and love her rendition of this song, but she didn't write it (as bahoodore pointed out). Namaste to both Sandy Denny and Dave Cousins, and thanks to LiteGauge for the excellent cover.
Hi Litegauge, I was just looking up Sandy Denny songs and hit your video by mistake . Have to be honest I said to myself " Damn I hit on a cover " but it turned out to be a nice surprise . Nice job , great guitar playing .
dude...you sing it just fine...and it was written by Dave Cousins....I sat in bar in New York with him many years ago...he sang during his set too...its a beauty...well done!!
I agree to a certain extent, but mainly because Sandy Denny sang it. I'm not sure if this was written by Sandy or Dave Cousins. From the lyrics it can easily be sung by a man.
Actually capoed up to A, as I hear it.
