he accused Bush of furloughing drug pushers when he personally gave Willie Horton a weekend pass out of prison so he could kill at will and then says he's tough on crime??? thats why the audience laughed at him.
Why is that considered odd when opposing abortion on a prolife platform and supporting the death penalty isnt? Its the fisherman motto, throw em back when they are small, kill em when they are bigger.

The fact that he opposes the death penalty but approves of abortion is not what hurt his candidacy. What truly hurt him was his lack of emotion when asked about the possibillity of his wife being raped and murdered. BTW, I find snobbish anti-American socialists hilarious! Keep it up! :)
What is with the hackneyed moronic guffawing? what he said is absolutely legitimate. What of a scared kid on the streets who sees another man pulling a gun and squeezes the trigger? automatic death penalty, specially if Black Haw Haw Haw, forget about the high percentage of innocent men murdered by that policy. Being locked up in a tiny room for 23 hours a day for the rest of your waking life is not easy, it's ridiculous how Americans seem to ridicule any statement with a little subtlety
"I'm opposed to the death penalty. I think everybody knows that. I'm also very tough on violent crime." It's not wrong just a slight contradiction, notice the laughter.
So somebody is tough on violent crime only if he kills the criminal? SO there's no other way to be tough on violent crime? Can we say that Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland is NOT tough on violent crime? You know, there's no death penalty there. The idiocy of the audience, ie. Americans (60% still supports capital punishment) does not make what Dukakis said absurd. Logically, there's nothing wrong with what he said. It is the idiocy of the audience.
Those countries also deny their citizens the right to bear arms.if life sentences were mandatory most people would agree to abolish the death penalty. The audience was laughing because they knew Dukakis' record and the absurdity of his claim to be tough on crime.Besides, who can take seriously a state, Massachussetts, that elects deviaants, drunks & dirtbags i.e; Teddy Kennedy the murderer of MJ Kopechne and Barney"wheres my underage boy page for me to fondle" Frank?
I wonder how many families, devastated by losing a child, lived through Dukakis allowing the murderer to be released to terrorize society yet again or kill another families child? You kill someone..you die or you go to jail for life without parole to do hard labor, along with the victims family whipping your ass each and every day!
The speedy section of his speech he says Mass. has the lowest murder rates in the nation. How come? They don't have death penaly but have the lowest murder rates? Why is it so? Doesn't lack of death penalty is being soft on crimes?
Who should make the decision as to whether an innocent unborn baby is murdered? Nobody should have the right to commit murder. Funny how you liberals want the government to decide everything else for us yet when it comes to protecting innocent life, all the sudden you become a libertarian. Capital punishment kills the guilty, abortion kills the innocent, that my friend is the difference.
What are we, a bunch of bloodthirsty animals? We shouldn't take the decision to kill people based on our sense of justice (read: vengeance), but on what works. But let's face it, abortion is just the removal of near-lifeless tissue. Without a nervous system to feel any pain.
Animals? I've not heard of too may animals making a calculated decision to PUNISH (not deter) based on evidence and the severity of a crime. Some humans need to be excised like the 'lifeless tissue' THEY'VE become. Further, how is it not 'vengeance' to put a freedom loving human in a zoo for the rest of their lives?
I was talking about the concept of yielding to vindictiveness, of acting upon our baser intincts, which is typical of animals. We should not do so, nor imprison for vengeance' sake; it should be used only as a preventive measure. Whose desire for retribution would we be quenching anyway? Our own? The victims' and their relatives'? And if a hermit is killed and no one is bereaved, do we lower the murderer's sentence?
Simplify the conservative point of view all you want, it will never justify the murdering of unborn babies, repealing the second amendment, or giving authority to public educators that which should only belong to parents.
As a true American I would like to say I am voting McCain and everyone should too. So what if this would be "Bush's 3rd term", I would rather the economy collapse than have a negro or any minority as President.
The invasion of privacy is what causes all the problems. If it weren't for that, we wouldn't hear about abortions and pea brained rednecks bombing abortion clinics to justify their cause. Once again, hypocrites.
Complaining about hypocrites doesn't justify any argument at all. It just means there are idiots on a certain side of the issue. Idiots abound no matter what the issue is, so it's irrelevant.
The reason there are arguments in the first place is because of hypocrisy and idiot politicians. Catching someone in a hypocritical act sometimes forces the registered voter sheep that this person cannot be trusted, to me, that serves a big purpose and justifies any argument that may come to both sides. Completely relevant.
. You write like a journalist. Try getting a job at the Weekly Standard or something. I am sure they would hire you.
Now, the other comment that sounds like it is from a pro-life. intolerant, hypocritical Jesus Camp think tank: "Furthermore, the death penalty can actually serve a purpose, which is to safeguard the people".
I agree that the death penalty serves a purpose but so does abortion when it comes to rape, incest and when the mothers life in in danger. Ayways...last one coming up.
Now another thing you didn't know: the death penalty isn't too different from abortion. Once and a while an innocent man is put to death and therefore matches your talking point on how it's so wrong to kill a baby. I do agree that people have them for the wrong reasons, but there is a statute called privacy, so you and the other right-wingers need to weasel their nose out of peoples business. Plus you can't whine to me I am pro death and pro choice.
I am not defending capital punishment. I am saying there are times when it should be used, but those times are not really applicable in most cases nowadays. I'm simply saying they are different issues. And if I kill my mother in the privacy of my own home, you need to keep out of my business.
I am not defending abortion. I am saying there are times when it should be used, but those times are really applicable sometimes. I am simply saying they are different issues. Now about your poor mom. Don't forcefully involve me your personal problems, by making it public on you tube. Let the police handle it, because once Im forcefully involved, your privacy is over.
4-month-old babies do not have complex personalities, OR life-times of exeperiences. I suppose it's ok to drop them off of skyscrapers. I mean.. they aren't really humans. Just 4-month-old babies. It's much more immoral to dehumanize those who have murdered innocents, and left a black mark on society. (I am not actually for the death penalty, unless it helps keep the people safe, which is usually not hte case in this day and age)
Golly, our leaders are really stupid. It doesn't help that one of the politicians for vice president thinks the earth is 6000 years old and is opposed to 'choice' unless it is her own daughter. Either be pro choice and pro death penalty or vice versa. DooDooCOCKis, looked as bad as Dubya in this one.
Who says that Sarah Palin thinks the world is 6000 years old? And how is she opposed to choice UNLESS it is her own daughter? I don't really think this makes sense at all. Furthermore, the death penalty can actually serve a purpose, which is to safeguard the people. However, circumstances nowadays can often provide for this without the execution of the criminal. However, the death penalty is vastly different from abortion, which is the extermination of an innocent, defenseless life.
Ok I will explain so you understand. The woman wants Creationsim taught in public schools. Young Earth Creationism states that the earth is 6000 years old and existence is pre-supposed aka starting from "God" and moving backwards. That is not science, and I will not vote for someone who believes that.
Second of all about the hyprocrite Sarah Palin: who is pro-life when it comes to other people, but when her daughter is involved, she supports WHATEVER decision she makes. Hypocrite.
Ok, I will explain so YOU will understand. There are more than one type of creationism, and not all of them believe that the earth is 6000 years old. I'm a creationist who believes that God created us, but used evolution, etc. to accomplish that. She has not elaborated on her beliefs. Secondly, she says she would let classrooms have debates, if students brought it up. There is nothing wrong with that. It's a non-issue. Students will learn evolution. I do, and I'm in red country.
You understand that "God" is a made up word conjured by primitive man. When the Creationist says God created Evolution, that fits into an incoherent pseudo-scientific fallacy. Thats using the last notion of the scientific method, basing it on faith, deeming it true, and then acending it down to a provable scientific theory incarnate such as evolution; which I agree has holes. But basing faith on the top of the paradigm is not science and it can't change.
WOW did u really just say that putting a murderer on death row is less violent then killing an innocent baby in the womb.. You got some serious, serious, serious problems.. I'm in awe that you even said that
From the moment of conception the fetus has a separate DNA sequence from the mother, making it a separate entity from either parent immediately and not her's to kill. You could try to argue that it's painless (though abortion doctors have admitted it's probably not under oath), but that probably wouldn't do for you in the death penalty bud.
beginning of video: "Governor Du-COCK...Du-COCK...Du-COCK-is" LOL I don't like Bush Sr(or his son) but Michael "I'm Willie Horton's Bitch" Du-COCK-is was a yellow-bellied sissy and was better off not president
You know, you should be able to let it speak for itself without altering it. I think liberals have it easy, they can just run the clips of George W. or Dan Quayle making a jackass out of themselves without any effects job.
In fairness, Mass. did have the largest drop in violent crime of any industrial state. Of course, that might be due to the Reagan economic recovery that Dukakis spent a year denying ever happened.
No election was stolen. Why when Democrats win elections nothing is corrupt, only if a Republican wins. Hypoctitical. If the Bushes can control voting machines why didnt the Republicans win in 2006? Its a thin and uneducated argument you make.
It's well known fact that (since 8th grade) that the electoral college controls the vote regardless of the popular vote. Is it a defect in our government? Maybe, but not in the character of the Presidency or their family.
The Electoral College does not 'control' the vote. We have FIFTY-ONE state elections (including DC) - NOT one federal election. You win the state, you win their electoral votes - which consist of a slate of delegates pledged to either party. These delegates are then presented to Congress who ratifies it. How this is Bush's fault since it had been around for 200 years is hard to fathom.
Indeed. Whenever someone comes out and attacks the Electoral College and you ask them to explain what the Electoral College is, they can rarely even explain the basic concepts - they just "know" they "oppose" it.
See "United States Electoral College" under Wikipedia:
The electoral college system, like the national convention, is an indirect element in the process of electing the president. The Constitution does not require the electors to vote as pledged, but many states do require their electors to vote as pledged.
The electoral college and the primary system as it exists are dazzle thrown up to make impartial monitoring of the electoral process as difficult as possible and to present a camouflage front behind which results can be adjusted as needed.
Eliminate the Electoral College!
One Man, One Vote!
Reduce the primaries to a single, nation-wide event.
Who imposed the modern primary system? It was primarily liberal Democrats as an outgrowth of the 1968 mess - and the assumption that if voters picked the nominee, the Left would always win.
Know what they did? When George Wallace won the 1972 Michigan primary, they abolished it. So much for liberals as the guardians of democracy.
I do not expect any tampering with the intricate clockwork of the primary and electoral system. The intrenched two party system has become far too adept at using this tool to wrestle power, one side to the other, and keep the competition strictly limited to the other side. No troublesome third or fourth parties are allowed to play in their sandbox.
Do you expect the US to last another 500years? We're already shuddering under the stress of diminishing strategic resources that stopped Rome.
No, that's not what happens. In fact, the Electoral College ensures that the small states get a vote and is weighted IN FAVOR of the small states. In this day and age if we reduced it to a popular vote, we'd have campaigning ONLY in the big cities. Rural America would be left out.
Maestrohbill... With the current primary system by the time I have a chance to express my choice, the field of candidates has been reduced from eight or ten to two per party... AND my vote only serves to determine the number of deligates my candidate gets, AND the delegate can NOT ONLY vote any damned way he/she chooses, but delegates collected by a candidate who is dropping out, can be GIVEN to an entirely different candidate. How is my choice, MY VOTE represented in this system? It is NOT!
You talk about voters in rural America being disenfranchized by a popular vote... HELL! That happened to MOST OF AMERICA with the very FIRST Primary this time around. The primary system and Electoral College was invented in a time when news spread by HORSEBACK. We have instantaneous telecommunications GLOBALLY, and candidates can address three hundred million Americans in one evening. Time to upgrade and wrest the electorial process out of the clutches of The System.
No, that isn't a "well known fact." There is no such thing as a national popular vote that is officially tallied - that is essentially nothing more than a media statistic. There are 51 separate state elections (counting DC) to choose the electors to represent the will of the State. The States grant the people the right to vote for President, not the Federal government.
Given that Dukakis fought to preserve the right of violent offenders, including murderers, to have weekends "off" from prison, his contention that he was tough on crime was preposterous.
I hardly think one has to be a right-wing nut to see how pathetic a presidential candidate Dukakis was. He was much farther to the Left than Bush 41 was to the Right. Most New England Democrats are.
Hold on.. I am a New England Democrat, a Massachusetts Democrat who has no opinion really on Dukakis, but some facts are in order. 1.Dukakis ended the state furlough program in 1987; it was started by a REPUBLICAN governor mid 1970s somewhere 2.Reagan called his own furlough program in CA a great success after a cop was murdered by a furloughee in 1972.
Typical cherry picking. You fail to mention that Dukakis fought FOR the furlough program even AFTER the Horton rape. It was only when the Mass. state legislature made clear they were going to pass it that he got on board. And the fact a Republican started it is irrelevant and typical of an evasion tactic. Reagan also favored capital punishment, something you didn't bother to mention.
This video makes no sense. George Bush 1st was a great president? He lasted one term! Son even dumber. That's a typical rightwing action. Ridicule and defame before done to thyself. It's in the rightwing bible. Sorta like concocting up those 'Swift-Boaters' to defame Kerry. WHAT A LYING BUNCH OF SUPPOSED VETERANS! Where did they get them? More importantly, HOW MUCH DID THEY GET PAID BY REPUBLICAN BACKERS? WMDs??? No wonder this country is going deep into horsesh*t.
This video will soon be deleted. The purpose was only for the amusement of the confused look after Dukakis makes a slight contradiction in saying that he was tough on crime but didn't believe in capital punishment. I don't think anything he says here is bad, it was just the rudeness of people laughing at him which can be looked as either funny, or for some more serious people, a "disgrace".
Morphing???? The video was sped up, there wasn't any morphing. If honest people want to know more about Dukakis, they shouldn't be looking on YouTube and I left the words of his comments written into the description if you couldn't understand it. Lighten up!!!
Yes, I always consult my library of Charles Krauthammer books before I reply to anything on YouTube.... The fact that you so quickly revert to name calling, rather than an intellectual debate would suggest that out of the two of us, perhaps I am not the one who is a "moron".
Well, that's what you gonna do when you have presidents/candidates like George W. Bush on your side: You have to artificially alter the voices of your opponents.. Pathetic.
when are you americans going to grow up and realise that chosing a president on single-issue politics (like abortion) is pathetic? If you want to lead the world, then don't be fooled by single-issue political brainwashing tactics by the neo-cons.
tough on crime, get the fuck out of here.

I am not defending capital punishment. I am saying there are times when it should be used, but those times are not really applicable in most cases nowadays. I'm simply saying they are different issues. And if I kill my mother in the privacy of my own home, you need to keep out of my business.

(I am not actually for the death penalty, unless it helps keep the people safe, which is usually not hte case in this day and age)
dannyboythegreat 3 years ago
Golly, our leaders are really stupid. It doesn't help that one of the politicians for vice president thinks the earth is 6000 years old and is opposed to 'choice' unless it is her own daughter. Either be pro choice and pro death penalty or vice versa. DooDooCOCKis, looked as bad as Dubya in this one.
artvandelay0 3 years ago
Who says that Sarah Palin thinks the world is 6000 years old? And how is she opposed to choice UNLESS it is her own daughter? I don't really think this makes sense at all. Furthermore, the death penalty can actually serve a purpose, which is to safeguard the people. However, circumstances nowadays can often provide for this without the execution of the criminal. However, the death penalty is vastly different from abortion, which is the extermination of an innocent, defenseless life.
dannyboythegreat 3 years ago
Ok I will explain so you understand. The woman wants Creationsim taught in public schools. Young Earth Creationism states that the earth is 6000 years old and existence is pre-supposed aka starting from "God" and moving backwards. That is not science, and I will not vote for someone who believes that.
Second of all about the hyprocrite Sarah Palin: who is pro-life when it comes to other people, but when her daughter is involved, she supports WHATEVER decision she makes. Hypocrite.
artvandelay0 3 years ago
Ok, I will explain so YOU will understand. There are more than one type of creationism, and not all of them believe that the earth is 6000 years old. I'm a creationist who believes that God created us, but used evolution, etc. to accomplish that. She has not elaborated on her beliefs. Secondly, she says she would let classrooms have debates, if students brought it up. There is nothing wrong with that. It's a non-issue. Students will learn evolution. I do, and I'm in red country.
dannyboythegreat 3 years ago
You understand that "God" is a made up word conjured by primitive man. When the Creationist says God created Evolution, that fits into an incoherent pseudo-scientific fallacy. Thats using the last notion of the scientific method, basing it on faith, deeming it true, and then acending it down to a provable scientific theory incarnate such as evolution; which I agree has holes. But basing faith on the top of the paradigm is not science and it can't change.
I still won't vote for her.

Christoffeltje 4 years ago
No election was stolen. Why when Democrats win elections nothing is corrupt, only if a Republican wins. Hypoctitical. If the Bushes can control voting machines why didnt the Republicans win in 2006? Its a thin and uneducated argument you make.
Namzso1 4 years ago
In Florida lot's of billets were not count etc etc etc.....pppff old story. everybody know Bush stole the elections in 2000!
Christoffeltje 4 years ago
It's well known fact that (since 8th grade) that the electoral college controls the vote regardless of the popular vote. Is it a defect in our government? Maybe, but not in the character of the Presidency or their family.
julius923 4 years ago
The Electoral College does not 'control' the vote. We have FIFTY-ONE state elections (including DC) - NOT one federal election. You win the state, you win their electoral votes - which consist of a slate of delegates pledged to either party. These delegates are then presented to Congress who ratifies it. How this is Bush's fault since it had been around for 200 years is hard to fathom.
Maestrohbill 4 years ago
Indeed. Whenever someone comes out and attacks the Electoral College and you ask them to explain what the Electoral College is, they can rarely even explain the basic concepts - they just "know" they "oppose" it.
ReuWil 4 years ago
See "United States Electoral College" under Wikipedia:
The electoral college system, like the national convention, is an indirect element in the process of electing the president. The Constitution does not require the electors to vote as pledged, but many states do require their electors to vote as pledged.
julius923 4 years ago
Agreed. Again - how can anyone say Bush Jr. stole the 2000 Election?
Maestrohbill 4 years ago
The electoral college and the primary system as it exists are dazzle thrown up to make impartial monitoring of the electoral process as difficult as possible and to present a camouflage front behind which results can be adjusted as needed.
Eliminate the Electoral College!
One Man, One Vote!
Reduce the primaries to a single, nation-wide event.
Restore the power of the vote.
Restore the promise of Democracy.
satweavers 3 years ago
Who imposed the modern primary system? It was primarily liberal Democrats as an outgrowth of the 1968 mess - and the assumption that if voters picked the nominee, the Left would always win.
Know what they did? When George Wallace won the 1972 Michigan primary, they abolished it. So much for liberals as the guardians of democracy.
Maestrohbill 3 years ago
Then you will must share a deep-seated mistrust of this absurd mechination and be as eager as I to see its elimination.
Excellent!
satweavers 3 years ago
What? The modern primary system? Sure. But do you think it's going to happen? No. And the Electoral College will still be here 500 years from now.
Maestrohbill 3 years ago
I do not expect any tampering with the intricate clockwork of the primary and electoral system. The intrenched two party system has become far too adept at using this tool to wrestle power, one side to the other, and keep the competition strictly limited to the other side. No troublesome third or fourth parties are allowed to play in their sandbox.
Do you expect the US to last another 500years? We're already shuddering under the stress of diminishing strategic resources that stopped Rome.

Sodom and...
bobalu10 3 years ago
so Calif, Texas and New york choose the president...and maybe all other states can stop paying taxes??...no representation, no taxation
bobalu10 3 years ago
No, that's not what happens. In fact, the Electoral College ensures that the small states get a vote and is weighted IN FAVOR of the small states. In this day and age if we reduced it to a popular vote, we'd have campaigning ONLY in the big cities. Rural America would be left out.
Maestrohbill 3 years ago
Exacxtly and with that :no representation, no taxation
bobalu10 3 years ago
Maestrohbill... With the current primary system by the time I have a chance to express my choice, the field of candidates has been reduced from eight or ten to two per party... AND my vote only serves to determine the number of deligates my candidate gets, AND the delegate can NOT ONLY vote any damned way he/she chooses, but delegates collected by a candidate who is dropping out, can be GIVEN to an entirely different candidate. How is my choice, MY VOTE represented in this system? It is NOT!
satweavers 3 years ago
You talk about voters in rural America being disenfranchized by a popular vote... HELL! That happened to MOST OF AMERICA with the very FIRST Primary this time around. The primary system and Electoral College was invented in a time when news spread by HORSEBACK. We have instantaneous telecommunications GLOBALLY, and candidates can address three hundred million Americans in one evening. Time to upgrade and wrest the electorial process out of the clutches of The System.
satweavers 3 years ago
OK. How do you do that? It's already been tried - and the small states won because there are more of them.
There will always be more of them - unless we annex Canada and split it into about fifteen states.
Maestrohbill 3 years ago
No, that isn't a "well known fact." There is no such thing as a national popular vote that is officially tallied - that is essentially nothing more than a media statistic. There are 51 separate state elections (counting DC) to choose the electors to represent the will of the State. The States grant the people the right to vote for President, not the Federal government.
ReuWil 4 years ago
They have done numerous unofficial recounts and Bush won everytime. Its an old liberal cliche that Bush stole the election. Try harder.

Gerkinstock 4 years ago
U2387 4 years ago 2
Typical cherry picking. You fail to mention that Dukakis fought FOR the furlough program even AFTER the Horton rape. It was only when the Mass. state legislature made clear they were going to pass it that he got on board. And the fact a Republican started it is irrelevant and typical of an evasion tactic. Reagan also favored capital punishment, something you didn't bother to mention.
Maestrohbill 4 years ago
This video makes no sense. George Bush 1st was a great president? He lasted one term! Son even dumber. That's a typical rightwing action. Ridicule and defame before done to thyself. It's in the rightwing bible. Sorta like concocting up those 'Swift-Boaters' to defame Kerry. WHAT A LYING BUNCH OF SUPPOSED VETERANS! Where did they get them? More importantly, HOW MUCH DID THEY GET PAID BY REPUBLICAN BACKERS? WMDs??? No wonder this country is going deep into horsesh*t.
BernieK20 4 years ago 2
This video will soon be deleted. The purpose was only for the amusement of the confused look after Dukakis makes a slight contradiction in saying that he was tough on crime but didn't believe in capital punishment. I don't think anything he says here is bad, it was just the rudeness of people laughing at him which can be looked as either funny, or for some more serious people, a "disgrace".
