  • The movie starts out good, but it then gets really stupid. It had potential. (never read the book)

  • @berval951 I agree 100%. I honestly think that, if it had better direction and a cohesive plot that made sense and it stayed with the serious/mysterious mood of the first half, it defiantly would've had a shot (especially with one hell of a great ensemble cast) Instead it just fell apart and became not-so-good generic sci fi. Its a shame to think about what could have been, eh?

  • Great book finished it a couple days ago

  • not gonna lie the movie is good but not as good as the book but not as good as anything else ive read.... just sayin

  • Shit movie.

  • I DEEEED IT!!!

  • I just finished reading the book a couple of hours ago and was looking for the movie on YouTube and I'm soo glad I found your review instead!!! It's so hilarious!!! Really, it's awesome!! And now I won't waste 2 hours watching the film :) And even though I know Stephen King is a great and best-selling author... memory warehouse?? s**t weasels?? (and the way they're born btw) I mean what on earth??? *Toothpicks, sideeffects may include hearing snow LOL!!!

  • @danielahigat Thanks, I'm glad you did too :) Although, if you are anything like me, the movie itself isn't exactly a waste. Its a waste if you were expecting it to be as good as the book, sure, but bad movies are always fun to watch and laugh at. I dunno about you, but I often find myself getting more for my money from bad movies than good ones lol. Check it out just for the hell of it, what do you got to lose? Anyhoo, thanks for watching!

  • I watch SiFi all the time and I caught a last 45 minutes or so of this movie on television one day. Without my expectations too high I actually loved what of I saw. How an alien manages to pick up a British accent out in Maine, this I do not know but it was amusing. I heard it was Steven King and decided to read the book. 200 pages in I'm laughing my ass off, I love it. The beauty of this book is it's realistic about personality, don't hate just because it doesn't have an awkward sex scene.

  • @DrVein The book is very good from what I hear. However, the book and the movie are totally different beasts. I haven't read the book myself, but the general consensus from fellow commentors such as yourself seems to be "book= really really good, Movie= bad, missed opportunity." I can't really say one way or the other, I just love making fun of bad movies :)

But enjoy the book, everyone tells me its much much better.

  • Lmfao

  • I actually love this review. I'm looking forward to your new reviews!

  • Is that the dude from The Young Turks??? Holy Shit!!!

  • i kind of liked it

  • and the flash back does come into play in the movie wtf bro?

  • broken m16 lol ur cool

  • The truth is, the Punisher does have a PH.D, FOR PUNISHMENT!!!! MUHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

  • @alexgorman13 Indeed he does. Its just not a well known fact because his PH.D didn't come from an accredited college or university. Its all politics. Its sad really :)

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews Indeed. In fact, all action heroes go to the same college. Carlton's Kickass College of Pyrotechnics and Marksmanship

  • The book is fucking great.

  • @TheCowboyJesus I have heard as much. I feel bad for King, the way they took his material and bastardized it. Although, I'm sure he's used to it after great-stories-turned-cinematic-turds like It, Pet Semetary 2 and the Langoliers. Why is it so difficult to take his stories and makes something good out of it?

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews Yeah. You ought to read the book. It explains a lot more about what s really going on with the aliens, with Derry, and with Duds. Also in the book, Duddits isn't an alien, he's just a psychic kid with a disability so the ending is a lot less ridiculous. Love the review, btw. I love this movie but I also love to laugh at it, especially having read the book after seeing it!

  • @InfernapesFlame Thanks :) And yeah I have heard from many people such as yourself that the book is not only GOOD but also vastly different. I was also aware that Duddits was never an alien. You gotta wonder where the writer/director came up with that little nugget. I bet drugs were involved. Glorious, mind altering DRUGS!

While I'm on the subject, is it true that the book is far less "sci-fy-ish" than the movie? The book had the elements of sci-fy, sure, but .... you know what I mean, right?

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews Well, It's my favourite book and I've read through it three times or so, to be honest. But no. It isn't as sci-fy-y as the movie. Basically, it explains a lot more about the aliens and why and how they got to earth, it explains the 'memory warehouse', focuses a lot more on them as kids and why and how their powers matter and work. It goes a lot more in-depth about Kurtz's insanity, and explains how he falls into it. (Also, in the book, Kurtz is a white irish guy :l)

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews And it goes a lot more in-depth about the characters as people and you really get a better feel for them. It also tells how the tooth-pick thing goes with Beaver instead of leaving it up to the viewer to guess that it's like a cigarette thing. It's more of an OCD where he needs to chew something, and they are convenient. It's just overall better at explaining and telling the story of.. everything. But then, storytelling is King's great talent! :D

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews Oh, and I forgot to tell you. It developes this great 'side-plot' sort of thing, where, as Jonesy travels with Mr. Grey inside of his head, Mr. Grey slowly is becoming more human and doesn't know how to cope with it. He begins to get human urges, like food, sleep, sex, and murder. All-in-all, it's a great read, fascinating, and I highly-recommend it.

  • @InfernapesFlame Hmm. Sounds like THAT would make a good movie lol. I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if they gave this movie to someone who actually knows how to adapt King, like Frank Darabont (director of Shawshank if you didn't know) Dreamcatcher might have been a real classic if handled right. Its a shame really. Thanks for the info tho.

  • @DanSheamovieReviews oh yeah! Btw should I be worried that 8:43 to 8:53 scares me more than most of Stephen King's work?

  • @FrontAlleyBoys I dunno.... probably. On the plus side however, it means that you're still normal, so that's something to be happy about, right?

    ....... HAIL SATAN!!!

  • Ah derry Maine, where one dimensional bullies and clowns with floating fetishes run amok.

  • @FrontAlleyBoys Let's not forget Gypsy weight loss gurus and homicidal dead house cats

  • hey guess what...your fat.

  • @tillerman002 Wow really? your powers of observation are just simply MIND BLOWING!

Seriously, you trolls need to get some original material. You all sound the same and its pathetic. That's really the best you guys can do? I bet you are all very proud. It is very cute that you're trying to get a rise out of me tho. It just proves your lack of intelligence for all the world to see. Lick my dick ass-hat

  • I just wanted to see how this fatass pooing, and all i saw is tons of usless shit! WTF?!

  • @DmitRU2007 RIP Rick. We all miss you buddy.... *cries*

  • "carls jr. f*ck you im eating" :D LMAO

  • @Zombiewaster215 Idiocracy FTW lol

  • Love the book, One of my favorites ever. The film ,,,,,,,not so much :(

  • I have the same shirt.

  • @IansCorner Classy, is it not? We must have the same tailor :p

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews Holy crap, you might be right.

  • @IansCorner Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes. -- Buck Murdock, Airplane 2: the Sequel

  • Dreamcatcher came out before casino royale!!!

  • @TheJacobwoodward yes.... but its just a nod to my previous review. An "inside joke" I guess you could say. That's all

  • im unable to post on yor page because im mobile. but this video, along with your planet of the apes review made me a fan. continue the great work

  • 7:09 also silent hill intro

  • you are f*cking funny

  • haha even though your criticizing this movie that I don't find to be that bad...You are a very funny man and your comments on different scenes are amusing ;)

  • @simaholic964 Hey thanks! I only wish more people would think like that. Man, people need to understand that you can disagree with something and still be entertained by it. Fucking trolls...... anyway, thanks again and theres more where that came from. Check out my channel for more fun stuff. And thanks for not being a youtube troll :D

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews No prob. And Yes i agree some people are just plain rude on youtube...like they take everything so harshly and personal. I subscribed to your channel..hope you bring more funny stuff to youtube! :)

  • haha this isn't that bad of a movie, it's not King's best but I like Douglas "Duddits" Cavell...he is my fave. Only because besides Damian Lewis and Jason Lee that is the only person I know. I Love Donnie Wahlberg<3

  • @simaholic964 And btw, yes, this is not the worst King adaptation out there. That crown belongs to either the Langoliers or Pet Sematary 2. You ever see those flicks? for shame!

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews look i usually like these independent reviews on youtube because they are fair and not follow what top grade critics say but dreamcatcher is quite a unique movie, and i personally loved it and came together so well, the actors where great i totally brought into the whole friendship with henry, jonesy, beaver and pete and as they reviled duddits and his story as the movie carried on. the story was basic but always left me wondering what was going to happen next. GREAT MOVIE!!!

  • @geoffroman Fair enough. I'm not trying to rain on anybodies parade here. I'm just trying to have some fun here at the movies expense :) Everyone has their own opinion and you (unlike most idiots on youtube) expressed yours intelligently. I respect that. However its kind of vague and i'm not sure your are giving me a complement of not, but either way, thanks :P

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews hey thanks for writing back, what i meant by "GREAT MOVIE" was the dreamcatcher was a great movie but i run out of space too. but i love the concept of your videos so i will give u a sub and just a request u should do a review on avatar (and no i am not a avatar fan boy)

  • @geoffroman Yeah sometimes I really hate the character limit. You never get to say what you want to say w/o cutting corners. Lame. Anyway, if you mean the Last Airbender then here's my review: FUCK THAT MOVIE! lol. If you mean the other one, well I loved the visuals, never saw a movie like that in terms of looks and style. I didn't mind the story, even if it is just a rehash of Dances With Wolves and Dune, but I DID enjoy it. I had fun watching it and sometimes, that's all that matters, right?

  • This movie was shit. Too long, too boring and the plot was retarded.

  • @Daandude1 Not to mention it had a lot of big name talent. So much wasted potential. It COULD have been good, thats the sad part.

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews True, the first part was good, not spectacular, but just good. Then the more we got into the movie the thinner the plot got. Also the actors suddenly changed from kinda mysterious persons to cardboard cutouts with no personality. Also that toothpick toilet scene was just weird, that's some Stephen King logic right there.

    Fuck Stephen King movie adaptations.

  • @Daandude1 Most are quite bad, but there are some diamonds in the rough like Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Stand By Me, The Running Man (yeah, that's a King movie. Betcha didn't know that! Most people don't) and, my all time favorite King movie, Misery. Unfortunately, however, the bad ones greatly out number the good ones.

  • this movie was super cool and scary at the same time i nearly puked when i saw all that blood in that toilet ew

  • @MsLillyalen I'll admit, the first time I saw that scene, it made me a tad uneasy. It was so effective probably because up until that point, nothing really "out of the ordinary" happens. Then when they bust the door down, your reaction matches their reaction of "what the fuck am I looking at?"

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews ik i understand but when jonesy and beaver see all that blood on that bed i thought the was out of the ordinary

  • MORGAN FREEMAN'S EYEBROW'S NEEDED TO BE QUARENTINED IN THIS MOVIE!

  • Great movie, if you think otherwise, then too bad.

  • @FrankieC63 You really liked this movie? wow you must have incredibly low standards. Unless you liked it in a so-bad-its-good kind of way. That I can see.

  • I like the book better

  • haha i personally really like the plot of this movie, its pretty damn good

  • This was one of the scariest movies I ever saw :P

  • @ScarsOfTheFallen I hope that by "scary" you mean so bad, its scary... if not, then we gotta talk lol

  • This movie is a literal shit weasel.

  • And if you haven't figured it out yet. The reason the book is called "Dreamcatcher" is simple.

A Dreamcatcher is an Indian ornament which is said to catch "nightmares" before they can assail the sleeping. In the story Dudditz is a metaphorical Dreamcatcher. He is there, waiting, to protect the planet from a "nightmare". In the the book itself it references him as "our Dreamcatcher". But you probably never read it.

It doesn't really take much thought.

  • @JonathonTheAsshole I both know and understand that, I was only playing ignorant for the sake of the gag. Either way, they really don't convey that point very well in the movie. Just sayin.

  • @JonathonTheAsshole The movie also refers to him as "our Dreamcatcher."

  • The movie was quirky but so are most of Stephen King's B-movie adaptations of his novels. SK has proven he has been quite too critical of his own works over the years just look at "Blaze". It took him over 20 years to release that and I thought it was severely underrated. But that's just me.

Sure the movie version of Dreamcatcher is quite silly, but it is a classic poor adaptation of a book.

Does it share a spot on the pantheon of Stephens best? No, but what does? That's a tall order to fill.

  • @JonathonTheAsshole At very least, its not as bad as "It." Now THAT was a classically bad adaptation. Lol @ Tim Curry -- one of the all time best bad performances out there :)

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews

You have to be trolling there. Tim Curry's performance in IT is one of the greatest of all time. Right up there with Clue.

  • @JonathonTheAsshole OMG I love clue. I don't know how they actually made a movie based on a board game watchable/entertaining, but they did. Clue is amazing. But Pennywise (sp?) was definitely in the "so bad its good" category.

  • For the record Thinner was Richard Bachman =P

  • @JonathonTheAsshole LOL pseudonyms. How/Where do they come up with them? Maybe authors pick them like actors pick porn names? His dog must have been named Richard and he must have lived on Bachman Ave. at one point lol

  • @Xanrigh Well, hey, sometimes the truth hurts.... and other times you just walk into oncoming traffic :)

  • Man, this is really good. Can't wait for future reviews!!! thanks for the time and effort you put into it. It really is some originally funny stuff. Nice. Thumbs up, but not up the ass like the people involved in the making of this horrendous movie.

  • @Thunderybeans Thanks a lot man! it's good to know that someone out there appreciates what I do lol. Just FYI, if you didn't already know, I have plenty more out with more on the way so check out my channel and subscribe! (Just hope you are not a die hard Casino Royale fan... I seem to get a lot of hate for that one, but I think It's them, not me) Enjoy!

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews it's funny that you mention "stand by me"..why? its based off the book: 'the body' by nonother than!! STEPHEN KING!!! WTF!!! that movie WAS CRAPPY!!! i forget, was the movie made by king? or did he sell the rights to that too?

  • @rpggguy It is really good to know that SOMEONE out there knows that King writes stuff that aren't ghost/monster movies/stories lol. As far as Stand By Me goes tho, I always liked it. Its an acquired taste to be sure, but it was always one one my favorite "right of passage/coming of age" movies. I always put it up there with the Sandlot actually... I know, kinda odd. Either way, its still way better than most other king movies like Pet Sematary 2, It and (god help me) Dreamcatcher.

  • @DanSheaMovieReviews dreamcatcher movie=EPIC FUCKING FAIL!!!! dreamcatcher book=win

  • @rpggguy Ya know, I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if they gave Dreamcatcher to a different Director. Would it have been any better if they gave it to Frank Darabont (Shawshank and Green Mile Director)? who knows? I havn't read the book, but I do know they left A SHIT TON out of the movie that was very important to the story. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Duddits was never an alien, right? MAYBE if it was longer and in the right hands, it could have been better... doubt it...

  • HAIL SATAN! XD

  • One thing I liked about the film at least was the music. Very atmospheric... but yeah I didn't like the movie that much... :\
