Amazing !!!! You have made me cry ! The best one I've ever heard or seen on Youtube ! When I die, I want you to play at my funeral !! I need a tissue.....really amazing....
@jinfiesto I thought the same about this piece. After seeing the music I thought it was incredibly difficult, still, I jumped into it predicting disaster. To my surprise, I can now play it pretty well, yet I cant say the same about the impromptu. (I can play it but I'm just not happy with it)
I'm not sure whether people overrate the difficulty of this piece (like I did) or if it depends on the pianist
Are you on the opposite end? Do you find playing the impromptu easier than playing this lied?
nonsense. schubert wrote this with the deliberate intention of an emotional affect. obviously, having been originally composed for the voice, the tempo of this version would be too fast. the voice would just begin to sound silly because nothing of that dramatic level would sung so quickly. the piano is more than capable of delivering that sensation appropriately at this tempo. brilliantly realized, mr. massery! thanks for sharing!!
Not a connoisseur on Schubert, but I had been looking out for this one without the singing. And I found it. And it's perfect! (Dare I say, it could compete with Chopin's fantasie impromptu in terms of speed.)
my goodness, you perform it perfectly... great job! I lvoe this piece, especially this arrangement that Liszt made.... and I will repeat this again, perfect performance.
Well played! It's one of my favorite pieces. But I've had a realy tough time finding the music sheet. Is that possible to send me either the scores or a link where I can find them?
I noticed that, but I think that only people who knew what it was supposed to be like would know that. Very well done. I love this piece, but unfortunately I am of the wrong sex to perform this.
I was speaking from a singer's point of view. I am a guy and the text is from a female's point of view. She speaks of losing her love and refers to "him" several times.
Beautiful

Did Liszt keep the staccato 1/8 notes in the LH?

Great technique, but you play it too fast

it sounds like you have studied the original song of Schubert with a competent singer. first.

@AvaPozen This piece is exponentially more difficult than the fantasie impromptu. The fantasie impromptu is cake comparatively.

I hear you! But because I am not the pianist, I'm swayed by the sound, not the level of difficulty : )

That was amazing! I'm the biggest fan of Schubert and you just inspired me to learn this!
It looks pretty tough though haha, not for you though you are a pro ******

How difficult is this peice?
FFChopinMan 3 years ago
I would say it's quite tricky - the rhythm of the soprano line is distorted in order to fit the hand and the leaps in opposite directions are tough.

@FFChopinMan in other words its on the FRSM syllabus list, so its the hardest it gets in the associated board standards.

I really enjoyed your performance, and thought you achieved an excellent balance between melody and accompaniment. Well done!

I quite love the orchestration. Piano perfectly substitutes soprano's voice. . Thank you. .

Thank you :) Only Liszt could have woven the melody into the texture so well. Thanks for watching.
