@shadowkid1993 Nothing in fighting games is assured to work as there's almost always a counter. So the #1 goal after execution is making sure you're not predictable and this move is anything but. It's an unusual and unexpected way to continue a vortex which if used sparingly and executed properly might help you continue a vortex.
Consider it one additional tool in the vortex, of which Ibuki has roughly a half dozen setups for =)
@morydees34 Hey man, thanks for the vid, I am a total newb at street fighter, and rally like the ibuki and akuma style (I know polar styles lol)
The problem is, that I can't sustain this vortex, the main problem lies after I air kunai, I can't link it with combo four like you do so easily.
Also, when I play online, I just turn into a button masher, I don;t know how to practice and get good at it, you seem to have some clue, I would appreciate your help alot.
@KrsnaBhakta Unfortunately there's no shortcut or way around simply practicing. Some of us have thousands of hours into the game, getting used to combo timing, footsies and strategy...and even then we still fall into bad habits, mashing and such. You might try to play offline when you can (with friends, at local arcades, etc) so you don't get used to countering some of the silly online mashing tactics. If you can't, try finding some SF forum people in your region to play with.
@morydees34 Thanks for the honest answer, I understand, the key really is practice. No arcade for me nearby, but hey I am pretty good at watching and learning. So I will keep practicing and watching videos like yours more keenly. Compared to where I was two months ago, I see that I am developing the "fighting sight"
Again, thanks for the videos and the answer. Peace.
are you doing the tiger knee motion for this? please say no becuz I absolutely canbot perform that motion. I've seen videos of this in matches but they do the up diagonal at the end.
i don't know if this has been asked already but why was there only only the LP, MP, NECKBREAKER from the left side as opposed to the LP, MP, HP, NECKBREAKER from the right?
@kshino No pattern or reason to it at all really. The game had just come out a few days before so I was cutting combos short, not allowing the second hit of MP sometimes, etc.
The point was just the timing and placement of the kunai after the command dash, not really the combo.
Since the timing is ridiculously difficult for ibuki's crossup kunai, is it essential to use the forward half circle dash in order to have the right spacing? Or can you just dash or something else?
@JohnnysSaloonHB Not at all, you can do it various ways. A simple small step forward and normal jump over works as does a small delay (cr.jab) to Super Jump. This is just one of the more confusing ways to do it because you're not in the air as long, giving them time to react. Think of it like Gen's old short jump and how it would catch people off guard.
The key is to use various different kunai mixup styles to always keep them guessing, not just this one =)
And if you're timing is a little off and your kunai doesn't succeed in the crossup I would throw or use the first ultra. Combo and reset queen over here :)
either if it is or it isn't a new idea, i've already seen this vortex in a japanese match something like 2 months ago... can't remember the name of the player, but after i saw that, i've started my training on that one XD
may i ask you how you can block this one ? if you can decide the way it is blocked, can you tell me about the timing in both versions ?
@GrindingOgre I discovered this one week after the game was released. Look at the date, it was new when posted :)
As for visually being able to tell which way to block, it's difficult. The earlier the kunai comes out, the more likely a standard block back is going to be. If she's at chest level, block normal. If done a bit later (head level), try blocking forward as it may cross. If the Ibuki gets the timing just right, it's damn near impossible to tell, hence the vortex. Good luck!
does the kunai into tc work on an already standing target or does it only work on a waking up target cuz i cant link this on an already standing training dummy
@alterazn Technically it shouldn't matter BUT it might be harder to do while standing because the way I do it, their hitbox becomes active WHILE the kunai is still inside them. So it might make the timing a bit easier for the next link.
When standing, the hitbox is active the entire time, hitting them a bit sooner on the edge of their body. However, it should still be possible in the same way that a normal SJC kunai vortex can link, just at a different and harder angle since you're so close.
@DrailorD Is the problem specifically that you can't get the kunai to hit on the other side or that you can't seem to link the combo together? The only tip I can give you for the kunai part is to practice doing very low kunais against the dummy in the corner. Where the kunai hits is based on where Ibuki's body is when she throws it so spend 30 minutes jumping and doing medium/low/very low kunais to get it down. Good luck!
@jeezulz LOL, it's not hacked you must have the timing wrong. If the kunai AND the start of the combo are not timed properly it will not link (and on block, they will be able to tech/throw). Give it some more practice.
@jeezulz i found out that if you throw the kunai at the climax of the jump, you can land next to the opponent, and link with a nice target combo to punish. it just takes practice. i've been learning ibuki and throwing the kunai at the right moment is key, especially against charge characters.
I tried Ryu... Crouching also avoids the Kunai, so I mean you could use this 2 or 3 times per match, but then the person will eventually catch on if they are good enough. That said, this is still a good strategy that I actually have been using. Some lame Juri player was constantly avoiding it by just doing EX fag wheel, so I just did proper chicken kunai game.
I am really not trying to bash or talk shit or nothing like that, I am an Ibuki player since 2nd impact so this is just discussion for her, but I tried this out... It can be beat out three ways with guy: EX tornado kick, cLP or just crouch wiffs completely. Going to try it out on other characters... If they did FA, it will wiff as well.
@helgenx Be careful, I never said this was a SAFE okizeme as it's nothing like the perfectly timed SJ lp kunai...and even that can be beat by certain special moves (there's a list on SRK and the YT video of it). Like almost all SF4 moves, there's always some way to beat it.
However, if we use the "Safe" one too much, it's long jump is predictable and it can be hard to land, especially online. So mixing in other crossups like this (just once or twice at most) keeps them guessing.
@helgenx Properly timed "safe" kunais are inside their body as they wake up and do not allow for the FA dash out. Unsafe ones however, can be thwarted by the FA but they have to guess correctly, as with anything in SF. It's about giving your opponent less options.
the dagger always hits behind with this setup. if you use her back DP heavy kick with the knockdown, you can jump immediately after and are able to throw the dagger at will, allowing you to sort of pick what side it hits on.
this is still pretty good though, i can really only see top players knowing that it will hit from behind.
@viralshark While I didn't show it in the video, the dagger actually can hit in front if you delay the jump over just a bit. However, it's fairly hard to pull off. I like your idea about the DP though, I'll have to try that!
my mistake, i meant QCB HK, not DP HK. just hold down (not down back or down forward) after the QCB HK, and spam kick, and a sweep will come out and combo for a knockdown, allowing you to get into vortex. if they block vortex, just follow through with the target combo, but cancel into her dash through to try again from the other side. you can mix that mixup even more just using light kick dash if they are wise to think you are going to cross them up lol

@anthonyhealy25 No, you can't use autoblock on vortex testing because since it's not an unblockable move (just a hard to guess one), the computer will always guess right. The key is making it hard for the opponent to know which side to block.
As far as the normal SJ to kunai vortex, search for " Ibuki Safe Crossup Okizeme" on youtube for a great how to video for timing.
definitely a good vortex tactic if used sparingly will catch most people off gaurd one of my favourite setups post 3000pp got stuff keep it up
