  • No one sings like this anymore. In my bitter opinion, Bryn is not up for the job. Great for Mozart, but never wagner. Listen to the honesty and quality of hans. None of the contrived generic sound that you hear so much of today. That strange unnatural snarl that Bryn puts in his voice is just a cover up for the fact that he does not have the voice for the job. Bet that will make a few scholars angry!

  • I've seen Matthias Goerne as Kurwenal and saw him in Salzburg with the"Schöne Müllerin" and the "Winterreise" . After the concert I spoke to him and he said that he intends in the near future to sing Amfortas and Wotan. And believe me, Goerne has an incredible voice with a differentiated large scale and an enormous technique. His fortissimo is strong and penetrating, and his pianissimo very touched!

  • Diese Durchdringung ist unerreicht, eine Sternstunde ist da eingefangen worden.

  • Powerhouse Hotter!!! What a voice - giant.

  • The great Hans Hotter...

  • In ipso termino

  • Theo Adam and Hans Hotter are the best Wotans and Holländers.

And in the future mayby Mathias Goerne ;)

  • @singingisall

But Adam and Hotter had big, strong voices with a stable timbre and wide range. Goerne could not be more different!

  • Sublime Hotter Grazie !

  • Great singing.

Too bad the orchestra is mediocre.

  • I had this from another site and it vanished. I was ready to go into mourning but found this-better sound too.

    Many many thanks.

  • Hace un año puse un comentario acerca de esta increible interpretacion:la mejor que he escuchado y luego de haber oido muchas otras sigo pensando lo mismo:Hotter es quien interpreta este rol con toda propiedad.

  • OOOOOOooooooooooooooo i love this recording! It's just so marvelous! Wish they would perform/produce more Wagner in NZ, so we could experience it live.

  • Hans Hotter = Holländer

  • He is Hans Hotter, he is the Hollander and London I love others but .... you know God given just a few

  • This is the way Wagner SHOULD be sung

  • @cfilipow86: Absolutly correct!

  • Search for "Opernprobe" and find

"The flying Dutchman" put on stage

    by Christoph Schlingensief !!!

  • strange to tell but Klemperer would tell him or to the dirigent, do you want to catch your train? I feel too fast, anyway it is a tru Hotter and who I am to tell anything more than his name glorify him

  • You mean the old Klemperer, as a young conductor Klemperer never missed a train lol

  • Hotter is the man! Is this from the Krauss, Bayerischen Staatsoper 1944 recording?

  • I'm fairly certain it's not-- actually like that recording more than this one-- better tempi, Hotter in fantastic voice, etc.
