thanks for the tips and I like seeing you play the bones using the thumb position as this is most comfortable for me but most videos show the first bone between the index and pointer.

hmm... as for this being anything like a set performance, you could've fooled me. Sounds like a mixture of various Indian and Middle Eastern things...

Greg... fantastic addition to your bones "ouevre" videos. It's a kick trying your, for lack of a better word, "drummerly" style vs. the traditional methods others show. If I try to start it on my own... collapse. If I start while watching this video, suddenly I have rhythm. Great learning piece.
better late than never to respond -- yes being a drum kit player I tend to take a 'drummerly' approach but I'm fascinated by the more traditional approach, the old school bones 'shuffle' etc. I'd like to get that old stuff together, actually.
@gregoryburrows ..Yeah, "drummerly" wasn't a good term. Horizontal vs. Vertical? When I play "horizontally" I like to imagine a drum stick extending beyond my thumb/forefinger, and then act as if I'm striking a drum... it results in a completely different method of playing than the traditional vertical, Irish "rotate the wrist" approach. I hope no offense was inferred. :-)
yeah I've seen some very good players use that kind of 'drum sticks' approach, I think I utilize it now and then. I find the triplet roll easier w/ the 'vertical' technique. absolutely no offense taken!
yo!! greg!! like what ur doing man...i play drumkit firstly but find bones to be so useful due to the portability factor.. i hold them differently with the top bone under the index finger instead of on top of it...is that wrong?
nope, that's an old-school way of playing the bones, especially if you play w/ 3 or even 4 bones in each hand, you need to develop holding it between any/all the different fingers! There's no such word as "wrong" in bones playing.
Thanks for the pitch tip. I've been playing for about 5 months and was thinking it was possible since my left hand always sound higher than my right, regardless of which bones I'm using. This explains that. :-)
haha, I recognize this! how are you greg? I can't believe its been 3 years! I gotta finish this thing... I've had to put it on the back burner these last few months to focus on paying my rent and a few other projects, but it'l get done eventually...
