  • My prelude is having the same problem

Im hoping that this valve adjustment im getting fixes the problem!

  • My 98 Montero Sport does the same clicking knocking ticking noise, was told to use heavy duty oil stabalizer when oil change, now is done and the noise won't go away at all is smoother but is there still. Engine will also stall at stop signs and lights.

  • Mine sounds almost identical. Do you remember if the noise changed/went away as RPM increased? For me about 1,400 or so and it sound very smooth.

  • my lude just started this sound...dropped it off at the mechanic..hopefully its not too expensive

  • Yeah my car makes the exact same noise... its usually quiet when its cold and pops up sometimes once its been ran for 20 to 30 minutes... the noise comes occasionally...

  • MY ENGINE ON MY CITREON C5 DONE THE SAME AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS A DIESEL, I GOT A ENGINE FLUSH THEN PUT IT IN RAN THE ENGINE FOR 15 MIN THEN DRAINED OLD OIL AND REPLACED OIL FILER PUT DRAIN PLUG BACK ON THEN FILLED WITH NEW 10/40 SYTHETIC OIL THEN ADDED wynns valve/hydraulic tappet cleaner, AT FIRST ON START UP STILL THE SAME ,THEN 20 MILES LATER BLOODY BRILLIANT CANT HERE IT KNOW MORE,SOUNDS LIKE A NEW ENGINE 10/10 TO WYNNS.

  • Bearings noise i'd say...

  • Just asking how much did that cost? I tipped over my truck and it has the same sound except it's a little more quite and when you get on the gas it gets louder.

  • NOT SURE BUT IM THINKIN THAT ROYAL PURPLE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING MANY MOTORS SO I GO AROUND IF YOU HAVE USED IT AND LOST A MOTOR LET ME KNOW PLEASE REPLY TO THIS ILL CONTACT YOU

  • time for a new car

  • my car makes this noise... but it was only periodically or sometimes.. was it the same for you???

  • Does this noise go away after the engine as been running for a little while(10-15min)? sounds alot like my truck!!

  • @jamie1179 It was quietest when it was cold, after warm up it got much louder. I tried putting in a thicker oil (went from 5W-30 to 10W-30) and it dulled the tick a little bit but not a whole lot.

  • @kidsamston Heyy... have u done valve adjustment for this motor?.... cuz ur valves ticken pretty loud... I've just done mine ...cuz I broked a rocker (dat's y you need torque specs and wrench lol) and readjust everything...now runing great..

  • what it turn out to be ? my car sounds identical to yours right now should i hold off driving it?

  • My 1974 Ford LTD just started making that sound. It's kinda freaky. I don't think the ol' boat is long for this world.

  • Hey Man my 92 prelude was making the exact noise. I recommend not driving it or only softly. My engine wont start anymore. still trying to figure out how to fix it.

  • from what your describing it sounds much more serious. My rocker arms and lifters were bad and needed to be replaced. you might have a spun bearing

  • How much do you think it would cost to fix if i have spun a bearing?

  • Alot more money than I make in 4 months, if you possibly can buy a new engine but if you plan on building up your current engine then stick with it and tak the whole thing apart and get a new crank, rods, and pistons

  • @lancer747 My engine was hard 2 start up 2, but after valve adjustments it start up like a lambo mang...I recommend u should check da valves clearance first. and if ur motor is h23a1 den clearances are (.006-.007 Exh, .003-.004 Intake), b4 start fixing something else that might won't be necessary.... juz so u knw

  • Collapsed lifter.... Check it out!

  • sounds like you lost your wrist pin on the rod.

  • wow, my 97 honda prelude type sh is also making a noise like that, although not as loud... i understand that h22a4 engines are usually loud like that especially when high mileage, but i'm still concerned because i just had the valves adjusted and the ticking is still there...i'm currently using 5w-30, maybe i should switch to 10-w30 motor oil?

  • It started doing it after I revved to 8,000 rpm a couple of times. When I bought the car the engine had less than 500 miles, so I had to still be nice to it and break it in. And it's an H22 head and a H23 block. They say that swiching to the 10w-30 will quiet it down, but it might be a bad lifter. I listened to an engine with a thrown rod or a bad bearing and mine sounds nothing like them.

  • first post!!! lol... geez, I'd hate it if my lude sounded like that
