If you look at all the early episodes I think they speak for themselves. I don't believe a word the media say. Every episode revolved around prue! piper and pheobe had to take back seats. Alyssa and Shannen were friends at first int he first few seasons, Shannen was even Alyssa's bridesmaid at her first wedding, for whatever reasons they just had issues during Season 3 which I believe could have been resolved but outside influences (Brad Kern) got involved instead making things worse.
In hindsight Im glad Shannen left when she did as Keern would only have ruined her character had Prue stayed on like he did Phoebe, Piper and Paige by the last seasons.

I liked Prue and was sad to see her go, but Piper is my favorite character and I doubt she would've been developed as much if Shannen had stayed, Holly kinda became the new leader of the Halliwell line. Phoebe had decent stories up until Cole left and then she was just over sexualized by Brad Kern constantly.
I see no reason why Piper wouldn't have still developed with Prue in the show. I never understand when fans say this, just becoming oldest sister didn't suddenly mean she developed massively as she didn't. She developed just as she would have developed had shae remained middle sister until the end.

I dont think it made huge developments at all, it was becoming a mother that changed Piper's character alot, made her more protective and in alot of ways more bitter.

I haven't watched an interview with Alyssa Milano, so I don't really know what she's like as a person, but as Phoebe on the show, I thought she was very charming and the connection between her character and Piper's was fantastic!! I also think it's unfortunate that Shannen Doherty left at all because her replacement sister left a lot to be desired! :\ I will always prefer Prue, Piper and Phoebe as the charmed ones!!! Love this show!
It was a great series. Beautiful babes who weren't blonde and could really act. Shannen is super hot and a really good actress. I even read some of the credits where she was directing too. But, the storyline did need some spicing up. I'm sorry it was Shannen who left. I would have preferred to stay and Milano leave, oh well. I would have loved to see them have a cat-fight. oo-yeah.hehe.

I don't care about Charmed or the tension between Doherty and Milano. But honestly, I saw interviews of both, and Milano seems really dumb, girly, cheesy and self-centered, unlike Doherty who doesn't take herself too seriously, who has a real personality and who's strong and honest. Milano is hot, that's for sure, but I like the style of Doherty, she's got more charm.
Of course it was her fault if you watch another interview with Rose Holly and Alyssa, the interviewers asked what they thought about Shannen leaving and they all just laughed (holly the most :P)
I also hated when they focused more on the love lives instead of the sisters and then they stopped focusing on the saving of innocents all together. And hell I intially hated Cole during my first run of the show but rewatching I can't help but bang my wall over the bad powers equal bad people black and white morality stupidity in the later seasons.

I did, however, love the use of Sam's character to create Paige. It's propbably the best use of history I've ever seen on primetime. Where other writers would have pulled her out of nowhere, an already established character (who was used as a foil to Leo in Season 2) was not only remembered, but utilized to re-build the foundation of the show following Shannen's departure. Actually, it was a really smart move compared to the whole Billie bullshit storyline, in my opinion.
I HATED that Phoebe and Paige were rushed into relationships with Coop and Henry at the end just so they could have their own "Piper-esque" happy endings by the end.
The first 3 Seaons are amazing but the show did get better after Prue died, apart from season 8, But I'm glad they did do a season 8 or else I would have only moaned that they didn't.

@MrSistasista I agree. I loved seasons 2 and 7 the best. Season seven should have been the end. Bringing in Kaley Cuoco (who I'm sure is a great actress otherwise) and her psycho sister made the show virtually unrecognizable. The show was at its height when Piper/Leo and Phoebe/Cole storylines were at the forefront. Back then, I actually looked foward to watching the show.
I never liked Shannen on this series. She always came across as way too bossy in each episode. The series definitely became much better after she left. Also Piper was the more powerful and kinder witch.

@DsTaR151 In the commentary on DVD it was explained that Prue and others that were not shown on the last episode was because they have to pay so much money for each image. A clip or even just a picture would cost money.... . At least she got a mention.

I am probably in the minority but I liked how the show was wrapped up and got to see that Piper and Leo had a daughter , Paige and Henry, Pheobe and Coop had children they all continued with their magic. I wasn't too keen on Chris and Wyatt popping in from the future but after rewatching I understand it a little better and am better with it now.

Yes one contract can indeed last for 5 seasons. The stars of Desperate Hosuewives were on a 7 year contract that will run out in 2011 hence the rumours that Terri Hatcher was quitting. Successful American TV shows give their stars long contracts to ensure they stay long term

They do usually say that Shannen is very professional but there is such a thing as too professional. I kinda think that if someone wasn’t on the same commitment level that she was at then she felt that they didn’t care about the job and that’s where the “drama” comes from. It wouldn’t be the first time Shannen has had problems with co-workers either. She also has said that she wanted to do more directing and she didn't like the direction the show was going.
I just don't think one person had the power to make her leave. But if it was Alyssa that made her leave then that is just childish. No one person should hold the power to make a person quit their job. Like I said childish.
I love Shannen Doherty, I am such a huge fan of her, and I was quite upset when I found out she was leaving Charmed, but I respected her decision. The show really was never the same without her though. I mean I did grow used to Paige, and liked her in her own way, and even thought that season 4 was one of Charmed's best seasons, but aside from that, seasons 1-3 have always been my favorite
Honestly, after watching the entire series. Yes, the seasons with prue were quite good, but after watching this interview (and meeting her in person :\...) i kind of think she just needed to get over herself. Especially considering that the show continued for 8 seasons successfully without her. Plus her so called "friend" and "enemy" stayed on that money/success train for all that time, clearly they enjoyed the work :)

I haven't watched an interview with Alyssa Milano, so I don't really know what she's like as a person, but as Phoebe on the show, I thought she was very charming and the connection between her character and Piper's was fantastic!! I also think it's unfortunate that Shannen Doherty left at all because her replacement sister left a lot to be desired! :\ I will always prefer Prue, Piper and Phoebe as the charmed ones!!! It was a great series. Beautiful babes who weren't blonde and could really act. Shannen is super hot and a really good actress. I even read some of the credits where she was directing too. But, the storyline did need some spicing up. I'm sorry it was Shannen who left. I would have preferred to stay and Milano leave, oh well. I would have loved to see them have a cat-fight. oo-yeah.hehe.

But honestly, I saw interviews of both, and Milano seems really dumb, girly, cheesy and self-centered, unlike Doherty who doesn't take herself too seriously, who has a real personality and who's strong and honest. Milano is hot, that's for sure, but I like the style of Doherty, she's got more charm.

I did, however, love the use of Sam's character to create Paige. It's propbably the best use of history I've ever seen on primetime. Where other writers would have pulled her out of nowhere, an already established character (who was used as a foil to Leo in Season 2) was not only remembered, but utilized to re-build the foundation of the show following Shannen's departure. Actually, it was a really smart move compared to the whole Billie bullshit storyline, in my opinion.

Bringing in Kaley Cuoco (who I'm sure is a great actress otherwise) and her psycho sister made the show virtually unrecognizable. The show was at its height when Piper/Leo and Phoebe/Cole storylines were at the forefront. Back then, I actually looked foward to watching the show.

@DsTaR151 In the commentary on DVD it was explained that Prue and others that were not shown on the last episode was because they have to pay so much money for each image. A clip or even just a picture would cost money.... . At least she got a mention.

@Beatlefish on what dvd of charmed? i mean season? everyone was shown on the last episode but prue. the kids, grams, victor, their mom, billy, coop. in another issue, i always wondered why they never made all hell breaks lose into 2 parts. they left the final version so open ended. it could be interpreted that everyone died, or if u want to continue it with paige, how did phoebe cole, and leo escape the underworld, what was pipers reaction seeing prue dead, it just jumped her death to funeral.

I am probably in the minority but I liked how the show was wrapped up and got to see that Piper and Leo had a daughter , Paige and Henry, Pheobe and Coop had children they all continued with their magic. I wasn't too keen on Chris and Wyatt popping in from the future but after rewatching I understand it a little better and am better with it now.

They do usually say that Shannen is very professional but there is such a thing as too professional. I kinda think that if someone wasn’t on the same commitment level that she was at then she felt that they didn’t care about the job and that’s where the “drama” comes from. It wouldn’t be the first time Shannen has had problems with co-workers either. She also has said that she wanted to do more directing and she didn't like the direction the show was going.

I love Shannen Doherty, I am such a huge fan of her, and I was quite upset when I found out she was leaving Charmed, but I respected her decision. The show really was never the same without her though. I mean I did grow used to Paige, and liked her in her own way, and even thought that season 4 was one of Charmed's best seasons, but aside from that, seasons 1-3 have always been my favorite

Yes, the seasons with prue were quite good, but after watching this interview (and meeting her in person :\...) i kind of think she just needed to get over herself. Especially considering that the show continued for 8 seasons successfully without her. The show was better when she left anyway. When she was it in I didn't really watch because even her character was a bit to bitchy, she was the older sister running their lives being the boss maybe she took this role too heart and the set. If anyone was a bully my money is on Shannen she's a bit nut.

Hmm. This is kinda sketchy to me. Shannen's known to be a diva and throw tantrums. Wasn't she fired from 90210? Anyway, all that's water the bridge now I guess, and it didn't matter then, so it most definitely wouldn't matter now as the show is four years over.

People on here make me laugh, obviously alyssa loved her job, why would she spend 8 years on something she didnt like? also, if alyssa had been the bully, do any of you really think that holly and rose would have put up with it, 2 grown women letting someone bully them? i dont think so.
